Astronaut Michael Collins, Apollo 11 pilot, dies of cancer

Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins, who orbited the moon alone while Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin made their historic first steps on the lunar surface, has died aged 90.

 

Collins died of cancer, his family said in a statement.

He had a good innings. Buzz Aldrin is now the only one left. I wonder if he will live to see the next human walk on the moon since the Apollo program was cancelled back in 1972.

Collings wrote a bloody good book called (I think) "Riding the Fire".
