  1. ok pic time it is!

had a great weekend! quite a mixed bag weather wise, nice and hot, typical narromine on the friday, yet wet and cool on the saturday, and solid rain today (sunday)

not as many aircraft here this year, but still a good turn out, and yet more VH aircraft than last year! seams to be growing in popularity in more than just RAA circles.

Met quite a few people from the forums in Ians store/ social focal point.

    anyway, enough chat. pics.

Who might this be then? Hows the planet making business going? sorry, couldn't help myself, Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy was on TV sat night!

This aircraft always had a crowd around it! very nice indeed!

    sexiest aircraft ever!

this does look fantastic with the new canopy!

she does look beautiful up close and personal... great paint job and design.

whos who of recreational free food!

good to see the UFO is still a regular! now i would love to do a few flights over syd with this aircraft! image the flood of calls to the ufo hotline!

    someone wannabigplane?

Inside the J120, very basic indeed! shame nothing can be added to all that space on the panel.

    Ian at large!

One for the Late Mr brown, an Original Piper Cub.

  2. sadly the vampire wont be coming this year, still plenty of work to do, make a new firewall, i have the template from Ken at wollongong now, so that can start, and all thats left to do is rewire the new CHT and EGT senders, and make a new choke cable splitter, one that wont snap.... again... then she will be ready to fly! i have 2 weeks off as of today, so i plan on getting most if not all done, except making the firewall, as i dont have the tools to cut and shape stainless steel and titanium here at home.

  3. strange about the gas taking 30 secs to start, there is a sticker on the dash of the falcon stating that it is a dedicated LPG engine, and expect 2 to 3 seconds of cranking before start, it has rarely taken more than 2 seconds to start. i think maybe dual fuel cars are tuned to run on the liquid fuel and therefor harder to start on LPG?

  4. just read the thread tonight, i was going to say if its LPG, there most likely will be a vacuum leak, i have a Dedicated LPG falcon, 380,000km and still going strong, every time there has been a problem with the engine, either backfiring, not starting, running really rough, it has always been a vacuum problem or spark problem. i have found with the dedicated gas engine, the spark pugs will rust up before they wear out, backfiring when starting is a sure sign of that, but everything else has been vac related, it has just been a matter of tracking down the leak. another little problem with gas that shows itself occasionally, is within the mixer, there is a solenoid connected to the throttle, the safery cutoff, sometimes this will get a gummy type residue from the lpg in it and prevent the full movement of the solenoid resulting in the engine not starting. it has only been a simply matter of removing, washing in a solvent, and replace.

  5. the technam i hire has a BRS, i never plan on using it, but in the event of a major structural failure, i will be glad its there, or if you get in a situation where you cannot control the aircraft, such an inverted spin, i might think aboit it then if the ground seams to be getting closer at a faster rate than i can recover the aircraft.

  6. we had a similar problem with my fathers Hyundai, at a constant throttle position, such as driving on a freeway or highway, it would develop an intermittent miss in the engine, like someone turning the ignition on and off for a slit second, after numerous sensor replacements the problem didnt go away, we replaced crank angle sensors, the entire computer, oxygen sensors, airflow meters. lots of stuff, then one day it clicked, the miss isnt there when driving in traffic. throttle is moving too much, it might be the throttle position sensor! we replaced the sensor, and the problem stopped, what the problem was is a bit or grease or grit had found its way into the sensor, and when the throttle sensor stopped moving with the movement of the throttle the sensor would not get a reading occasionally, and cause the engine to shut down for a millisecond.

chances are the problem might not be with the crank angle sensor, what exactly are the symptoms of the engine problem?

  7. dont be afraid to report any incident, i reported the incident i had at Hoxton park a few months back, it was reported to the ATSB and they were more than helpful. they didnt make me feel like i was to blame, just asked for the facts and details, and that was about it.

  8. yep, that was me, ATSB recieved a report over that one.. not a fun day, ironically enough, the aircraft that almost took me out was the very same aircraft that i first soloed in many years ago....

as for the pics, about half are taken with a mobile phone, Nokia N73, with the 3 mp camera, and the rest are taken with an Olympus U790, 7.2 MP but its waterproof and takes a great underwater snap, though i dont ever plan on doing that while in an aircraft..

I will be flying back at Hoxton pretty regularly soon, as its only 5 weeks to go till settlement on my house, and i will be starting on my CPL and instructors rating with Ashley.(if i dont get accepted by REX first)

  9. just another related question, when planning a trip and drawing tracks on the map, do people still plan to navigate via well known or spotted landmarks or aids? or simply select a altitude and fly direct from point A to B, in regards to airspace restrictions etc???

even though i have a hand held GPS, i still plan to fly via VOR stations or major roads/rail lines and other forced landing safe terrain, and plot the waypoint into my GPS as well.

i think the only negative to GPS navigation as a primary means is the tendency for people to fly point a to b direct and resulting track taking them over tiger country or other terrain not really good for a forced landing.

  10. i am impressed with the club i joined at Cessnock! great group or people and well attended, whenever i needed help with maintenance, there was always someone with a wealth on knowledge on hand or nearby, flying was going on all the time. . it was sad to leave them. as for goulburn....

  11. last year i arrived on the friday morning, hadnt pre booked or anything, walked into the office ask for a spot, and thee were plenty, as dave said there were heaps of spots on friday morning behind the NDB antenna, and towards the road in. i didn't have any problem with shower cues, as i usually had mine about 4 pm.

  12. My vampire was almost ready to fly for the next weekend, though sadly, i had taken the firewall in to work to be treated, and my supervisor mistakenly threw it out! GRRRR not happy! now i have to either buy a new one, or make one in a very short space of time.... so it looks like i wont make it with my vampire, which is a shame, as the factory is there, and Ken wanted to display mine as testimate to their longevity. :(036_faint.gif.544c913aae3989c0f13fd9d3b82e4e2c.gif
