i like the gun holster/mount under the left wing lift strut.

if you can prove it was a pothole that caused the damage, the council can be liable and contribute towards the cost of repair or replacement

one of my students a few months ago, who is a 767/DC10/MD11 pilot for American airlines, told me he was being "upgraded" to an Airbus A330, we was not happy about this, i asked him why, his reply was simple and sums up the airbus situation perfectly..
The airbus doesnt have an OFF switch.
in a Boeing or MD product, you can turn everything off, and still fly the aircraft the old fashioned way, with good old fashioned cables and pulleys.

hahahaha love the UAV cockpit!

just a little tip for fine control of Jabiru Throttles, when you grab the throttle, point a finger forward into the panel. like your making a pistol with your hand. as you push the throttle in with your hand, you can push your finger against the panel to provide resistance and this makes fine control of the throttle very easy.
also dont forget the Sportstar is a $150,000 aircraft, the J160 is a $70,000 aircraft. like comparing a cheap reliable Corolla to a nice refined BMW.
as for check problems and layout, you will get that with any aircraft, i had the same issues in my early days when flyng Cherokees and cessnas.

Bob Tait books are fantastic for passing exams, as they only have content that will be in the exams, nothing more.
a lot more books will go into a lot more depth and will give you a greater understanding of the subject.
but to pass the exams, Bob Tait is the way to go.

i am divided on the bar issues, part of me wants everyone who flies to wear them, as you have achieved something a vast majority will never do... get a pilots licence, and all the hard work and study that goes with it. you deserve to wear them.
and if your a 2 bar PPL, and are having a chat with a 3 bar CPl holder, then you know you can ask him questions about CPL flying, or exams etc, and know he has done the work and earned the licence, and might be able to offer some helpful advice. etc.
and part of me thinks its an ego thing... which i dont see a problem with, nothing wrong with a bit of ego massaging every now and then, as long as it doesnt make you look like you are up yourself. it makes you feel better, and theres nothing wrong with that.
as for the bars themselves, from what i can gather from my RAAus flying, GA flying, and working next door to a big commercial school and with ATPL rated pilots. they seam to be this.
SILVER BARS
1 = SPL
2 = PPL
3 = CPL
4 = ATPL
GOLD BARS
1 = Grade 1 Instructor/ PPL
2 = grade 2 Instructor/CPL
3 = grade 3 Instructor/ ATPL
4 = CFI/ATPL Command
RAAus BARS.
1 silver = SPL
1 Gold = certificated pilot
2 Gold = Flight Instructor
3 Gold = Senior Instructor
4 Gold = CFI
now to make it official? anyone from casa want to enshrine these in CAO's?

actually, if you had them set up in the usual standard pattern, ASI on the top left, AH top middle, Alt top right, T & C bottom left DG bottom middle and VSI on bottom right, you could use these to practice your Instrument flying scan routine.... though you should never be flying on instruments in RAAus aircraft.

that Gopro camera is now available in HD!
Ian, i have noticed they are looking for distributors for the gopro cameras, could they be sold through clearprop here in Oz???

get a letter in writing from telstra, stating the account is closed and the date, it will come in handy when the debt collector arrives.
as they say, your only a telstra customer once. same thing happened to me.

i have always been aware of such things, the turbulence behind the camera will create vortexes behind it, and if the vortexes pass over a control surface, you will notice a difference. hence i usually tape cameras to the lift struts or Undercarriage legs. or on the fuselage where its turbulence stream doesn't pass over the wing/vertical stab or elevator.
and another question on the camera, how is the mounts attached to the camera? is it a conventional screw thread? so i can mount other normal cameras to the mounts?
-
if you want to use countersunk rivets in thing skins, then create the countersink using the Dimple method. it creates a countersink and retains the materials original thickness.
-
has the camera arrived yet? how long did it take if it has arrived already?
-
engine was shut down, and the aircraft returned 45 mins later after burning off and dumping fuel.

great vid, i like the idea of actually using tuffs in the stall, i might strt doing something similar. do the tuffs make any difference to performance? increase stall speed? create wing drop?
oh, and is the mount you used the suction cup one? i will order the camera soon.
thanks again..

Take LOTS of pictures for us!Just thought see who'd done this trip before in a similar aircraft and if they have any advise. -
most solo stuff is done at YWOL. we go to Camden on weekends before tower opens, so we can get an hour or 3 in between fist light and 9 am. the schools boss flies from YWOL, with a lot of skydivers and charter ops , so its a familiar field to us,So if Camden becomes a towered airport every day from April 2010 as confirmed in previous posts , where are you going to do the solo flying part of the certificate syllabus ?? ..... just curious ..Dave Calso, dont forget Bankstown turns into an absolute disaster every weekend now due to lack of controllers and this ludicrous 6 aircraft rule, where will they get another 2 full time controllers to man Camdens tower full time when they are already so massively understaffed that they can no longer provide air traffic coverage in large parts of Oz.?

sadly i had to miss it due to work commitments, too many students booking, so i was unable to steel the bosses tecnam for the day.:( and my award winning Vampire is still in th garage missing quite a few damaged wing skins, but she will fly again!
-
i have only had 1 engine failure, and it was on final in a Jab. but being a HL flyer, just continued the approach as usual, still had residual speed to turn off a taxiway and clear the strip.
-
thanks for that, ill look into it.
-
congratulations, you must have been pretty good if you passed!

is there anyone left doing float plane endorsements in oz?

Its Not that bad, we fly RAAUs aircraft out of bankstown, and when it goes to class D nothing will change, when flying with an Instructor that is PPL licenced or higher, you are flying under his authority to fly in class D, as with our school you fly the complete syllubus to licence test level, at which point, we take the aircraft to a CTAF, and the student can then fly the requires Solo hrs over the period of 2 days, or as required. or the other option is to fly from Bankstown to a nearby airport thats a CTAF and do the solo work there as its required throughout the training.
Most of our students have then gone on to complete their PPL, as all that is required is 3 hrs Instrument, the PPL theory exam,advanced stalls, and about 3 or so more hrs to prove to the CFI you can handle a larger heavier aircraft, usually a NAV with the use of radio navaids, thats really about it, nce you have your PPL/GFPT, you can fly RAAus aircraft solo from within class D.

how NOT to fly IFR.

this is what happens when you fly VFR into IFR, and fail to follow basic rules of flying.. especially following a GPS in IFR conditions in mountainous terrain.
a very good way to kill almost yourself and 3 friends.
