  1. as you all probably know by now, i will be buying a kit in the near

future, and this got me thinking about the requirement for a

building log. i was just thinking if it was possible for a

building log section to be added to this site, i have an account

with a picture hosting and storage site called Smugmug, it very simple

to use, just drag and drop my pics to the page and their automatically

uploaded, i just add my comments and its done,

i was wondering if a similar thing could be set up on this site, to be

used by members to use as their official building log, it would

help builders who are not to interweb savvy like myself, and be

of interest to people considering going through the building process,

and casual observers who wish to follow people on their builds.

im sure a small fee of say $20 a yr would be fair, to help pay for and maintain the builders log part of the site?

    what ya think??

  2. i have always wondered how it would handle a partial engine failure in 1 engine or a complete failure in 1 engine? not to mention maintainence, or lack of if it becomes the new Car.

and could you imagine the carnage with the general populace flying around in these? look at how bad some drivers are today on our roads?

a savannah would be more suited to what its trying to do! and you could land it in the street out the front of your house, if it were not for power lines!

    or just buy a helicopter.

  3. Ahhh yes, i have done that trip a few times, more times when it was an unsealed road, i dont have to worry too much about the police, my partner is one, and being their driver trainer, most highway patrolers recognise her.

i have not done that road on 2 wheels though. might have to this summer!

  4. Just a broad question, Now the evans head flyin is cancelled for this

year, will the event or flying move to another location? or will there

be no flyin at all this year, with a hopeful return to evans head next

    year?

if there isnt one planned this year, how quickly could one be thrown together at this time of the year?

  5. (.... and the Port MacQ - Walcha - Tamworth road is one of the best bike roads in NSW.)

unless you get stuck behine a army of harley boat anchor riders who refuse to travel at a speed anywhere near resembling the speed limit! and slow to

a walking pace to go around a corner.068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif (sorry if i offend any harley riders, its not intentional)

that annoys me no end. even wrose when im in my RX7, fantastic cornering speed, but not enough punch to our drag race the harleys to the next corner..:black_eye:

  6. As for free ongoing service – totally agree, with the taxes we all

pay the weather radar is and should remain to be a free essential

    service…

the same could be said for our airports, which the taxpayer owned....

and some toll roads. dont get me started on medical and

healthcare! have you ever had to pay an ambulance bill for

    150Km of travel!!!

  7. i might need a little help with these pics, i was given a pile of old photos by an old friends father, all i know is they were taken at Mt Panorama, Bathurst, i have no idea when, all i know is they are old, and are of Motorcycles, Sidecars and cars.

here are some of the pics...

And could this be the First ever in car shot taken while racing up Mountain straight??

  8. aparently they are in a lot of hot water because they have been flying over some big name events uninvited!

such as the Ford australia tennis, the GMC moto GP, the prime sponsores have put up heaps of cash to be the main sponsor, only to have Holden who have paid nothing for sponsorship rights come and buzz their events...

  9. Also (there's) the risk of maintaining them ... it's too risky to have in a civilian environment."

this is what the guys at work here are trying to do, we are set up to overhaul Martin Baker and other ejector seats, we do it every day for the Hawks, Hornets and even help out the USAF when they are in town, we have had F16 and F15 seats in our workshop, and the maintainence of the seats includes everything even putting fresh food in the survival pack, and chutes.

the guys in the "hot seat shop" have applied to CASA for the approval to maintain and overhaul ejection seats in civilian aircraft so they can be safely installed and maintained as fully operational ejection seats.

Im sure the customer would feel a little more safer taking a flight in one of the Jets knowing the ejection seat was fully operational.

the main reason they are trying to get work on civvie seats is there is not much work to be done on the aircraft we have in the hangar, and the shop has a lot of downtime.

  10. Jetgirl, if the seats were armed and servicable, are they 0speed and 0 altitude capable??

even though they are not armed for civillian use to prevent Joe average punching himself out without notice, im sure still be safer to have both seats armed, but have them set up so they will both fire only when fired from the command seat.

  11. If I remember correctly (and perhaps Jetgirl can help here) theStrikemaster is fitted with Martin-Baker Ejection seats. Would be

interesting to know if these are still operational on privately owned

    ex-mil aircraft.

i am pretty certain the seats are Martin bakers, as are the seats in the Mig 15's. our workshop here is equipped to overhaul all types of ejection seats, and all the guys in it are certified and approved Martin bakers overhaulers. a few years ago, 2 guys in the shop made a submission to CASA for permission ot overhaul the civillian versions of the seats. sadly not long after permission was refused, a MIG 15 crashed near nowra i think,

i am wondering no just how many lives would have been saved, or possibly be saved in the future if CASA would permit the overhaul and installation of servicable and armed ejection seats....

  12. i have been tossing up to register in VH or RAA, but holding a PPL with Night VFR it will most likly be VH, but from what i can gather at the moment, to fly it NVFR or IFR you might need certified instruments, which then increases the cost significantly... which then makes RAA a more attrractive option

but if you wish to fly IFR, then RAA rego is not possible. though with a transponder RAA aircraft can be flown into CTA if you hold a PPL.

the option i will most likely take is RAA rego, and hire an aircraft if i need to go anywhere at night

  13. i feel terrible over this one, i have never know anyone who has lost their life in an aircraft crash, if its the strikemaster from work yesterday, i was talking to the 2 guys who were flying it, so its a very good chance it was one or both of them that were killed...

My sincerest condolences to their family and friends... 051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif051_crying.gif.edc6b33a234e272ee13f0ec0ae40b12a.gif051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif051_crying.gif.edc6b33a234e272ee13f0ec0ae40b12a.gif051_crying.gif.fe5d15edcc60afab3cc76b2638e7acf3.gif

  14. I hope its not the Strikemaster that left williamtown yesterday, we helped the crew of that thing move it out of the way in front of our hanger so we could get a Hornet out. we watched as they completed their pre flight inspections...

    very sad..

  15. i have even thought about replacing the spring steel UC structure with a lot lighter Alloy variety, but modified with a lever type shock system, with the spring and dampner inside the fusealage or other setups even with Bungee cord... maybe this will be a project for my engineering degree i plan on starting soon...

any other thoughs on suspension setups? especially now with such lightweight materials available and in use on light weight motorbikes and racing quad bikes.
