I have always liked PP's... oh wait!!! That came out wrong.. lol
Seriously though... I reckon having one of these in the garage would provide a lot of fun...

There have been dozens of airliners making missed approaches and diverting!!! I got home at 3.00am last night. Still.... I just think of the poor ground hogs at the airports in Europe and try to tell myself that I am lucky. Still its hard. Pretty much every turnaround involves getting wet at a regional airport for all staff, passengers and baggage. If you are flying commercial I recommend taking a raincoat in your carry on baggage with a clean set of clothes because you never know where you will end up. Many passengers are even ending there journeys on buses in order to get to an airport that has a window in the weather to enable them to get out. It is pretty crazy but still going smoothly.

I thought by your own telling of the problem that you were illegal... and thus Ra-Aus grounded you?Well done Josh. I reckon you've got your head screwed on right mate. Congrats and hopefully you'll be all legal soon.Good on you for the effort. Now you need to put it into practice.
You have become a bit of a celebrity in Ra-Aus circles it seem BW... even this Nth Qlder has heard of you and your exploits outside of these forums. Note: This sort of celebrity is not the sort you want!!!

Are two strokes able to be approved? Or are approved engines certified to a standard?
-
They certainly seem to be the most bang per dollar in Ra-Aus flying... Have been keen for a TIF for a while now myself. It seems to me a very safe, economical way to own your own aircraft... and you can keep it in the Garage!
Perfect for local fine weather flying.

Dj... Is this the Decathlon replacement? I think its a shame there are not more single seat aircraft available. This one looks nice.

Because for a lot of them the West has bombed the **** out of the area their countries are in... imposed economic "sanctions" upon them, or supplied their corrupt government with arms.... Sadly the West is us... our life is at their expense. If the west is so bad , why does everyone who doesn't live there WANT to live there? NevIt doesn't have to be... it is not the fault of our lifestyle... it the economic system that holds it all in place. I would like to see this fixed. If this is a one world government view then so be it. (now there is a whole new thread right there.. One World Government... LoL)

I share your pain back David. These new smart phones... whatever brand... are such a sharp step up from what most of us were using previously I really miss it. Its almost like these days what we have is a virtual desk/toolbox in our hands... the Desire allows you to go truly mobile with all sorts of technology.
I have the box with a picture of it sitting on the fridge... every time I go there I see it and sigh. lol

I hear you meth... We seem to have lost common sense... or a sense of being humanity as a species rather than one country, race or other. We are in this together... it is our nature to get greedy. Greed should not be allowed when it applies to the basics of life. We can feed every body... we can clothe everybody... but we can't turn a profit on doing it... thus mankind doesn't have that goal at its core. We should.
We need to control population growth.. easy. Make the pill very readily available to ALL humanity... oh wait. Medical companies won't allow that! I mean the third world can't pay $20 per month for birth control!!!!
We need to end hunger... easy. There is plenty of arable land still available to grow food if we start looking after it and utilizing it properly... Water? Its a storage/movement problem, not a rainfall problem.
But you can't turn a buck by giving the basics of society that all of us take for granted to the 90% of the population that don't enjoy it... but desire it before anything else because at least most of them these days have TV's.

I wasn't complaining about the "slow servicing of the phone"... yet.Hang on. Don't rip Telstra for "Slow servicing of the phone".It isn't theirs. They didn't make/manufacture it.If it is brand new and it was faulty, you should get a new one. There are logistics which need to be done. The time also depends on how long the manufacturerereerrreee (what ever) feel like taking. If they are all on holidays (as most people are this time of year) it may take longer.
However, you may get it back sooner.
That was a complaint about the whole Telstra experience... and I am a 20 year customer. It took 45 minutes for 2 people to tell me what I told them when I walked in the door and that they would have to send my phone away, and then another half an hour while the computer "wouldn't print"... the paper work in the end took 30 secs by good old biro. And that is just this visit. I am sorry if you feel I don't paint a very good picture of Telstra. If you work there you should take pride in the fact that you are part of a team that (hopefully) is fixing things.
I mean they still have a big head start in that they offer the best coverage so have a large customer base who are happy to stay but I am sorry but I don't know anyone who doesn't want better service out of all our communication providers. But personally I give Telstra a nice wad of money every month... more than I did in the past... I want better service.

And then... here comes the kicker... they engineer a lie that its the workers fault because they have so many material possessions (we have all heard it... "When we started out we had nothing but a mattress on the floor and a kitchen table with 2 chairs... These days they all expect so much" etc etc or some such)... when ironically its is our enforced reliance on these consumer goods that supports the whole thing.

Who else is working Xmas Day? At normal pay!!!!!
So... My child misses out on Christmas with her Mum and Dad... and we don't even get paid penalty rates for it in Qld.
What is wrong with us that we all accept this??? The bastards are making our kids pay for their greed.

iDon't.

Two days ago my HTC Desire died. Was on charge for about 30 minutes when I picked it up and... Nothing. Dead... and the phone (not the battery) was particularly hot around the base.
Took it to Telstra... they have sent it away. Will probably be 2 weeks until I get it back they say... as if Telstra. Crikey there service is bad.
Any way. Life without my phone is hard.

If you could get the contract on cleaning airline aircraft you could do ok.
I reckon I have done several thousand tidy ups on airline aircraft in the last 5 years... Airline Aircraft are parked at airstrips all over Australia... there is plenty of money in cleaning those if you can get a contract, do 50 of them a night, and pay your monkeys peanuts. Sadly I am still one of the monkeys.

I wonder how much of a fuel imbalance the A380 could handle and land safely?

How much?

This has happened in my industry (Airline Ground Handling)... All employees at my work have been told and I quote "If you join a Union you don't want to work here"...
This stuff really is a joke... Just recently I questioned my employer about our wages and conditions... result??? I was labelled a "whinger" and had my hours cut... cost approx. $400 per f/night. Contacted Fairwork Australia... they can't do anything to protect people from this sort of thing.
All the big airlines know about this... by employing contractors they get away with it and no comeback... Just give it 20 years and it will happen to your industry if it hasn't already.
Unless of course people wake up and stop bashing the Unions... Because if you have ever looked into this... that was all the worker had... there is no other safety net...

Thanks for the advice... the current contenders are the e-machines and the Asus... Does anyone have any experience with buying computers over the internet? Any recomendations?

I love Ubuntu... So far it just seems to work!!! Very intuitive... I guess the real test will be over time. I have found Windows starts out fine and soon your experience goes down hill fast... and even the "experts" can't really help.
I hope Ubuntu continues to work well... It certainly seems very simple.
I am even looking at Cheap Atom processor netbooks (of the $300 variety) as my next "ungrade" with Ubuntu.... seems like the perfect solution for my needs. Save money and make things simpler... gotta love it!

That makes sense... I guess Ra-Aus had to close a loophole... Someone needs to administer these almost Lsa Antiques but I guess Ra-Aus can't.
Its a shame really. Is there any correlation between this and the number of Luscombes for sale recently?

I am going to get a cheap netbook/notebook (with certain specs)... the cheapest I can find.... and use ubuntu netbook. Seems like the cheapest and easiest way to go... cheap, open source, just works (like apple without the expense?)The part that annoys me about alot of companies, which can be seen so much more with tablets, is that they have no originality, they try to imitate the design and look of apple products... The optus tablet is an example of it, it looks so much like the ipad, even down to the 'dock' at the bottom of the screen... This is the one thing that turns me off even considering another brand, might as well get the ipad rather than some imitation. When someone finally comes out with something unique that can do anything and everything I require, where its not locked up, and opensource software can be used, I will consider a tablet, until then, I will be very unlikely to buy one. A laptop is far more powerful and can do more than what i need. When it comes to aviation uses, I dont see myself using a laptop or tablet in the sky (unless it becomes more convenient and faster than flicking through books) in the near future... Too many gadgets can take your focus away for too long, there are times when it is better to just stick to old fashioned stuff.Lets hope that the touch screen become standard on all computers soon... will make it a lot easier for all devices... A netbook with touch screen... 10-12 inches... runs ubuntu... now that I would like....

It was very skillful and professional.. but still involved lots of luck. Its not about Qantas or Jetstar or Cathay or Virgin or Delta... I think for the most part their are a lot of very, very professional pilots out there and they are doing a good job of overseeing the safe operation of these quality airlines... These guys did an exceptional job... but just add the nose gear not being down... or the fuel imbalance being 20 tonnes towards the tail... The mind boggles... just how fortunate they are the faults didn't occur in a slightly different order or the engine blow at a slightly different time.

Professional Ground Handling is a very under rated skill at the moment in Australia... Good luck with the Job.
Us "Groundies" need to stick together...

Rain,Rain, Rain and more Rain
in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Posted
I have been seeing SES emergency kits arriving in Mackay for practically the last month... ever since the first prediction of heavy rain. It seems that the response to the threat of flooding this year has been improved from years past.
My mind boggles at the expense of this weather to government and industry...
