  1. Indications from nurses; in the event of major pressure on ICU facilities: “No vaccination, then no ventilation.”. And those words are from ICU involved nurses, they aren’t going to waste time and resources on poor risks. This is exactly the same as the existing (unwritten) policy regarding smokers. Some of you might want to rethink your vaccination strategy
  2. Taxiing isn’t flying.
  3. what it means is that if you have any criminal record, no matter how minor, you will never be a pilot.
  4. So taxiing is OK?
  5. I have ADSB and my initial comment is that relying on it in a circuit is potentially suicidal for two reasons. 1. You do NOT want your head down looking at a screen and trying to make sense of positions - you don’t have enough time. You are just asking to lose situational awareness. You need to be looking out because things happen fast. This is especially important if there is confusion about north up/track up, someone with a bad radio, poor english, verbal dihorea , wrong runway selection, etc. or marginal flying skills like me. 2. Unless you can ensure that everyone has an operating ADSB out capability, you cannot positively ensure your own separation. You can receive a false sense of security. Where I currently value ADSB is: (a) setting up my circuit entry where there are likely to be multiple players before I make my entry and first radio call. I might decide to do an orbit and wait for the RV rocket behind me to go first, or helimed or Vicpol or firebird. (b) away from the circuit, ensuring separation with the many aircraft I would never normally even see. It’s great to have it but be careful to confirm what you see on the screen.
  6. Be aware that if you have an unpaid fine, your car registration won’t renew. Neither will you be travelling overseas. Nor ever getting a Government job. Nor will they ever get a pilots licence or any other licence. There is a “hard core” of protesters who don’t care what the protest issue is; they just want a chance to punch on with Police. The first time a protester is arrested and charged, it is under the public health Act. The protester will be bailed pretty much automatically. If they turn up again at a protest, it is an offence under the Bail Act - they are reoffending, the Magistrate now gives them three months in the slammer. A little bird told me that is what is now happening to these richard craniums.
  7. Rumor is that Dan Andrews is about to try a “super lockdown”…….
  8. 40+ cases in Victoria will be announced tomorrow
  9. Doherty is right because capitalism has no need for free markets, Democracy, fairness, equity or law and left to itself will destroy everything good. These are from 1969 in Manchester UK. So much for Capitalism.
  10. rodger rodger. check your messages.
  11. I have a “set” of jerry cans for my aircraft that are kept in a seperate locked shed at the strip and they only ever contain unleaded 95 - I even use unleaded 95 for the generator and airstrip lawnmower to avoid that misfuelling possibility. I buy fuel from the same very busy name brand service station every time.
  12. Waraton I've seen this behaviour before in sports and major events. The Council is seduced into assuming that the big guys are always going to want to come and are prepared always to pay top dollar. This is a commercially very dangerous fallacy that ALWAYS ends in tears within a few years for the simple reason that the big guys wont pay top dollar forever and they are often very fickle. So would I prefer 100 customers each dropping $1000 into the town or three customers each dropping $50,000? I'll always take the former. Cases in point? The ski clubs that have a bumper ski season, put their prices up and fill their club with guests their expenses go up accordingly. Following season, very little snow, alienated members dont turn up and neither do guests. Club goes into administration. A regatta in Victoria that decided to go "up market" after securing a major insurance company as sponsor. They paid appearance money to grand prix yachts to put on a show and alienated 300+ yachts and crews who had been supporting the regatta for forty years. Result? Alienated average little guys went elsewhere. Three years later Scandia went broke and was sold. No sponsorship. No corporate marquee. Regatta virtually collapsed. Birdsville is popular just this once because of Covid.
  13. I know they are mostly harmless Onetrack, but I just get embarrassed to see a fifty something trying to shoehorn themselves into bits of uniform that don't match and that aren't worn correctly
  14. good riddance. ‘It was a defence/ corporate/GA/RAA affair that does nothing well. None of the players have any interest in the other sectors and the pricing is a mess. ‘We would be better off and happier with three or four seperate shows…. Everyone would know what they are there for and the displays and stands could be tailored and priced accordingly ………and for chrissake get rid of those embarrassing military reenactment World war two wannabes and their old jeep’s and trucks. They are an absolute embarrassment to anyone who actually wore those uniforms. I cannot stand looking at a fifty something bloke trying to fit into a cadet battle dress blouse, the wrong boots, belt, gaiters, nothing polished or lined up complete with fake campaign medals. They have nothing to do with aviation and are an embarrassment to anyone, including me, who. actually wore the uniform for real.
  15. Postponed till April 2022. Isn’t Karma a bitch? The council has succeeded in alienating the “regulars” through a grab for cash. Now where will their customers come from if we have opened our borders by then? Everyone will have left for Europe, Asia and the USA. ‘’To put it another way, Council has turned what was once a laid back country race meeting into an “event’ - doubling or tripling the price in the process and forgetting that events compete with other events. They don’t always cover their costs. The same thing happened with Polo in Melbourne. It used to be a casual event - bring the dog and the kids, bring rug, picnic basket and esky. Back the wagon up to the edge, get out the chairs and enjoy…. ‘’Now it’s big$$$ - no BYO, kids, dogs, rugs and chairs. It’s all catered marquees full of bored socialites who don’t know one end of a polo pony from the other. Boring.
  16. Latest rumour is 28 days lockdown - Victoria
  17. I thought the same…..but apparently not. BTW, treat jet A1 with respect! I had about 30litres given to me and I decided to use some of it to start a wood fire…… ‘The bill for a new umbrella and a set of outdoor seat cushions was over $1000. It ignites and flashes over like petrol! It most definitely is not as benign as diesel! I almost burned the deck out with half a litre - beware!
  18. Sorry, Aircraft propellers and spares. http://www.propbits.com
  19. Skippy, the danger is usually static electricity. There are usually traces of other products (eg ethanol) plus a little water, rust and dirt in mogas that make it conductive enough for static charge to leak away. The dangerous one is jet A1 which is so clean and has a high dielectric constant that it sparks unless it has an anti static additive.. ‘’I use a Bunnings aerospace jiggle siphon and a jerry can myself. The funnel I sometimes use is conductive.
  20. Flightrite and others…….you do know that you are asking for trouble if you don’t use a hose with a conductive lining? You can get away with plastic with mogas sometimes because the impurities make it conductive so charge can leak away. ‘’But a cold morning, clean Avgas and no earth connections?
  21. I am concerned for APS - the simply most wonderful supplier of aviation hardware in Australia at Moorabbin. The most helpful, knowledgeable guys in the country. Going to them with a shopping list of fasteners and suchlike was an absolute pleasure…….and they were charging less for aviation certified fasteners than bunnings charged for Chinese crap nuts and bolts!
  22. As per my opening post, NSW has > 120 community infections. Contact tracing is now pointless. Lockdown may slow progression but now the only thing that will stop the pandemic in NSW is vaccination. The lockdown is at least till Christmas. ‘’You are going to see water filled barriers manned by the Army on state borders before this is over. Police are already preparing to arrest border hoppers.
  23. A few points……… Common law recognises that there are situations requiring people’s traditional liberties to be curtailed. One of those is war, a far more common one is epidemics or pandemics where it is universally accepted that behaviour must be modified to protect the general community. ‘’Classic every day examples include water, sewerage, gas and electricity inspectors as well as fire services, who can “trample on your human rights” any time they like if they think they need to in order to protect the community. ‘’So the idea you can protest lockdowns, etc is wrong in law. Those decisions are legal under the public health act. ‘’So you argue that Covid isn’t real, vaccines don’t work? Sure you can do that - you are arguing that the public health act doesn’t apply - good luck with that. There are enough very sick people to prove you wrong. ‘’Arguing Anything else - gates/soros/ world domination etc.’ then you are with the crazies. ‘’Please get vaccinated.
  24. I was idly thinking of attending the Birdsville races by air - Covid permitting. ‘’I noticed a thread on another aviation website criticizing the shire council for prohibiting under wing camping apparently on liability grounds. There was talk of an appeal to the council… ‘’When I looked at the Birdsville races website, the reason the council has banned under wing camping is obvious - money! The Council bastards have partnered with a commercial tent mob and want $520 for a single person tent in their camp ground for visitors coming by air! http://www.rentatent.com.au/rentatent/events/view/71 I have started a list of places not to visit and Birdsville is now the second entry, after YMMB.
