Well I've been doing some wiring and I must say I actually like working with Tefzel! Because of it's stiffness, it makes for a very neat loom. I just allow it to curve naturally where it wants to. So I think I'll stick with it after all!

So another question. I'm finding it hard to see how the warning light is wired for the rotax. I see some places say between C and L on the rectifier? Is that right?
-
It's much stiffer than ordinary copper wire. It is possible to get colours and different thicknesses but these are not easy to buy.
I wonder just how many lives have been saved by the insistance on this wire. Cars don't have to use it.
I'm of a mind to get a refund on the 10, and just use automotive wire for those parts and continue to use the other wire.

On another angle, there's the theories of prior warning. Allegations that the attacks were carried out by bin Laden's crew as per the official explanation, but that prior warning of the event was ignored. The harshest theories could say that high authority ignored the warnings and let them go ahead for political gain. Probably a more likely theory is that the warnings only got so far up the chain and were being sat on until more solid intelligence was gained.
Susan Lindauer has made a lot of claims in her book, but like all these things, it 's only one person's word to believe or not.

There is plenty of evidence of prior warning. That doesn't point to a conspiracy, just failings of American Intelligence. There was a great documentary about this, the main guy who came up with the idea to attack the twin towers was a guy named Ali Mohammed (easy to remember!). He was an Egyptian army officer who ingratiated himself with american officers and no one thought anything of it because Egypt were an ally. They eventually arrested him for spying or something but it was all hit and miss. Apparently one of the first things they did when the attacks happened was to double down on his security
spelt his name wrong but here is his bio

The concocted 'cover story' is truly cognative dissonance.
This logical fallacy is called 'begging the question' ?

So just an update. That is the 10 gauge wire I have. I just looked at the 18 and 22 gauge I bought at the same time and it is silver. I better contact the supplier.

So I started having a bit of a play with the Tefzel wire I have. First impressions is that it is very stiff. That's not my concern though, see attached (click on thumbnail for full size). I was expecting it to be bright under the insulation. This is the best pic I could take. You can compare the end which is freshly cut to the side. I put a crimp on to test it and there is no extra resistance, but doesn't mean there won't be with some load on it

Julian Assange, a hero of truly free speech, who is currently being treated to heinous abuse by the Brit establishment should be knighted. The British 'legal system', showing the extent of their high minded principles, won't give him the opportunity to present his defense fairly. His crime was to speak the truth to war crimes. He enabled the publication of a video showing armed troops murdering 9 defenseless individuals, including a Reuters person. This is in the public domain. For this he is detained in a maximum security cell and denied medical attention.
Free speech is the cornerstone of a democracy so why the personal attacks here? Posting an opinion piece for discussion unleashed a tirade of scornful abuse on a long standing forum member. Perhaps Australia needs a 'justice system' imported from Britain along with our Head of State.
In the world of logical fallacies, this is called 'non sequitur' ?

I remember being a little alarmed at how much play there was in the yoke of the Piper Warrior I learnt to fly in...

One of these could be handy:-)
http://infinityaerospace.com/product/other/pre-oiler-and-back-up-engine-oil-pump/
Been around in heavy industry for years. You could actually get a kit for Delco starters etc for your Caterpillar or whatever engine so that turning the key one way spins the starter without engaging the pinion but engages a pre oil pump instead. Then a normal start after that.

Thing is, you don't have to know anything technical to ask this- How many people need to be kept quiet for a conspiracy to exist? The higher the number, the lower the likelihood it exists. For instance, there are people who don't believe the Americans landed people on the moon. All you have to do is imagine if the USSR would have been in on the conspiracy. If you think that is pretty unlikely, and that the likelihood of a man landing on the moon is far greater than the whole of the Soviet Union (and China by that stage) keeping mum on their sworn enemies dirty conspiracy, then you have an answer. All without even knowing that for every force there is an equal and opposite reaction, let alone any in depth engineering knowledge.
Sometimes the obvious is the truth.

But did they achieve their mission? I assume their main aim was to get American military, cultural and business interests out of the Islamic world. Instead, they precipitated more wars, more US involvement.
No soldier is worried about future political ramifications when they are carrying out a mission, other than the hope the enemy is defeated. Most of the objectives those guys set out to achieve were met. Mission accomplished. Where the failure is was with Osama Bin Laden. You could liken it to the Japanese generals who decided to bomb Pearl Harbour. Was a totally successful mission, and from the pilots and sailors point of view was a mission accomplished. The greater ramifications of that attack turned out to be not so great for Japan...

Soon after those attacks, I remember a visiting american intelligence officer saying it was a brilliant commando operation. And it was. They were able to execute their objectives almost perfectly, other than the plane that crashed before it hit anything. The question of why is another matter, but from the perspective of a plan coming together, it was brilliant.

One thing I'm lucky with is that my ALT qnh knob is in place of the fourth screw. So I only need a perfectly round hole :)
-
My panel is already the right shape. Just needs holes :)
-
I'm very jealous! I'm struggling through a much simpler rag and tube type build. Well done! Some beautiful coastline along CA to fly along :)

I used an adjustable circle cutter similar to this. General Tools 55 Heavy Duty Circle Cutter. Adjustable 1-3/4 Inch to 7-7/8 Inch: Amazon.com.au: Home Improvement
Not too expensive and did a good job, but use a solid bench drill, clamp the panel securely and keep your fingers and anything else you value well out of the way.
Sounds good. Looks like there aren't any in Australia. But it's going to be a while before I cut the panel. So I'll get it on Amazon. Free tip guys- if you are getting something from overseas, if it's on Amazon go there. Aust Post priorotise Amazon parcels :) You need all the help you can get with the limited number of international flights at the moment. Although there is some vague talk that Amazon may be buying up some of the superfluous A380's that no one wants anymore. Won't help me right now of course :D
I've been mocking everything up on a 3mm MDF instrument panel so everything is in its place. I can sit in the cockpit and really make sure things look right and are in reach and it helps with seeing whats going on behind the panel too. I think I've had a change of plan for the radio for instance and the hole I cut out for that is damn close to the battery so I know to move that hole over a little on the final product.

Not sure a plasma cutter is whats called for here

-
What have you guys done? I see there is a really cool thing called a panel punch, but that's over 300 bucks just to cut five or six holes! Unless someone has one to lend

So what methods have been employed on this site?
-
For the radio I was thinking of getting a Trig. But I happened to be looking for ideas on where to put the headphone jacks (instrument panel or not) and I happened to find this youtube clip
Until I saw that I assumed all the 'round' faced radios had a head unit and a main part. But he listed four radios that are just one unit. Now I would rather have just one unit. The brands he listed were
MGL
Flightline
Xcom
Becker
I have read some ordinary reports about xcom, but admittedly they were older threads and things change. Any thoughts on what a good simple radio single unit with a round face? I realise it's probably a contentious issue!

Some kit planes have mounting points already. Bushcat does. But I figured I'm riding that baby down if there's a problem ?

Plugs are a highly suitable asset to assist in maintenance and repair - but the important thing to remember is they are a potential source of electrical problems if not built properly and maintained.
All plug connectors should be sealed with rubber seals and a smear of thermal grease used on all metal parts of the connector to improve conductivity, and to prevent corrosion.
Thermal grease contains metal oxides and silicone oil, so it can provide both corrosion protection as well as conductivity improvement. But you only need a light coating of it.
In addition, taping connectors adds a final layer of protection that will ensure moisture and other detrimental compounds cannot enter the connector plug.
Japanese vehicles have excellent sealed wiring harness connectors (particularly in exposed chassis wiring situations), and these connectors can be be purchased as individual units for construction of wiring harnesses.
Then there are the excellent Deutsch wiring harness connectors, designed for heavy industrial use, where exposure to dust, salt water and salt air, and other corrosive mineral elements are a constant threat to wiring.
The Deutsch connectors are standard on Caterpillar equipment, and they are as robust as you can get. All types of connectors are available from RS Components, Alanco, or Ashdown-Ingram.
You've sold me on the Deutsch plugs. The specialised crimp pliers aren't too pricey and the plugs themselves seem very sturdy and durable. I can get 3, 4 and 6 way from Jaycar at a good price and so that will probably be enough to polarise the connections (different sizes and then each turned around so that the panel for instance has one female six way and one male six way)

To the OP, 'alternate media' is not that if the people aren't presenting it aren't trained journalists. Most of these guys don't even know anything about logical fallacies for instance and so can't even determine if an argument is sound or not. And then their 'research' comprises solely of going to tinfoilhat.com .
These conspiracy theorists are flourishing now because of the internet. And people lap it up because we all like to think we know something others don't. That's the psychology of it. I've been a victim of that myself. But you can't live your life thinking everything around you is a conspiracy. That road leads to paranoid schizophrenia.
Understand that you can't know everything that is going on around you and you will lead a happier life.

Narva make flush mounted LED warning light which is what I used to replace the failed alt light in my Foxbat. $8 from local auto store. Part Number 62076BL
That was the one I was going for. Really neat. But in the end I decided to go with something else.

Tefzel wire. Is this normal?

Just doing the instrument panel at the moment. Don't even have an engine ?
The plane is bolted Ali tubes so I knew early on I would do it earth return. On the panel is a negative bus, a positive bus and a smaller bus for the instruments to to tie to a circuit breaker. Obviously on the engine side the crankcase will be an earth. And pretty much the only other wiring is for the wingtip lights which will also be earth return.
