  1. Very interesting about how the cut should start. Makes sense. Learn something new every day. And then I mostly forget it 😄 https://www.kitplanes.com/vans-updates-builders-on-laser-cut-parts/
  2. Yeah, if you ve been at Caboolture, that visibility around the junction is not great with the trees in the way. Looks like the Pawnee is the glider tug after all. So both pilots very experienced. Makes me worry about what chance I have around busy places with my lack of experience.
  3. Couple killed in Caboolture Airfield plane crash identified as David and Jan Maddern - ABC News https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-07-28/aircraft-crash-caboolture-paramedics-respond-significant/102660186
  4. There's at least one VH plane involved, so they are going to investigate it
  5. Pawnee apparently not the glider clubs https://amp.theguardian.com/australia-news/2023/jul/28/two-light-planes-crash-mid-air-collision-caboolture-airfield-queensland
  6. I was one of those guys that jeered at the Sierras. Now I wish I could see such a wonderful mix of cars at Bathurst once more. Even NASCAR is more interesting than Bathurst now. Sure, they all seem to be the same car too, but at least you get to see the whole race all at once. And all the crashes too. Watch Talladega Nights. Fantastic footage as well as a great comedy. If I ever make my way back to NC I'll have to watch a race. 😎
  7. Yes the C130 is mentioned in my original link. It's a much larger aircraft though so I imagine each would fill different roles...
  8. Yes, that Japanese flying boat looks handy. But you are talking about the world's biggest industrial nation, I don't think it's unreasonable for Americans to want to make their own. Everyone is talking about being more self sufficient with key industries, so as not to rely on other countries for staple requirements but the Americans aren't allowed to?
  9. I'm guessing it will be turboprop. https://www.flightglobal.com/fixed-wing/catalina-aircraft-relaunches-iconic-flying-boat-eyes-military-sales/154255.article
  10. My source fell through. I'll buy a couple off you. Will pm 🙂
  11. I'm actually surprised ALL ships aren't gas turbine. But there's heaps that still use reciprocal engines. Just googling around now, it looks like MOST still use reciprocating engines. So I stand by my initial statement 🙂
  12. The upshot is Australia is too stupid to make things we can sell 😁
  13. I can attest to this. Ive seen signs on new York and new Jersey highways saying it's illegal to leave a truck idling.
  14. Personally I pre pressure with electric fuel pump before every start.
  15. My kit comes with a restrictor jet. Ive forgotten the plumbing now, but if it's inline with the mechanical pump, the return covers both bases.
  16. How far does the pump have to move fuel? Maybe it's a bit longer than other setups so they want a bit extra. It would seem to me a bit extra is fine since it just gets returned to the tank if not needed
  17. When I used to work at an auto electrical wholesaler, we used to say that if it's marine grade, double the price. If it's aviation grade, add a zero 😄
  18. For a short time a couple of years ago, china was number 2 in the world for patents submitted, overtaking Japan. I think they are number 3 again now. Clearly then, they are way beyond just copying stuff. Having said that, also clearly, this engine is a copy and not licence built. Edit: I misremembered. They were number one. https://www.visualcapitalist.com/cp/countries-new-patents/
  19. No idea what model mine is, came with the Bushcat kit. Facet 'cube'. If anyone is using facet, as far as I know they don't make 'aircraft' grade pumps, so just get it from Repco etc...
  20. I have an MGL but haven't tested in flight yet. Becker is German and reputable.
  21. In my case it was a matter of getting the parts. Full stop
  22. I just received some throttle arms from loravia https://loravia.com/shop/index.php?route=product/search&keyword=Bing&description=true&model=1
  23. I sometimes wonder if I'm going to add to that statistic...
  24. Tell me about it! It would have been better to just do my re-solo, which I did. And then stop until the plane was say 75% complete. Ive been building for about 4 years.
