  1. Looks like previous owner lost original cap and replaced it with a Castrol oil bottle lid, I did think it had to be vented otherwise everything would be under pressure , engine done 1400 hrs, lucky to get this far, hope there's no more damage
  2. Should the overflow tank on my 914 be vented , mine is sealed , wondering if that would put undue pressure on the plastic line from the cap to the plastic tank as mine blew a hole in it,
  3. Seems hardly worth the trouble
  4. Can a RPL holder in a 24 rego plane fly above 10000ft, I understand it can allow you into controlled air space with the right endorsement
  5. Got to pick the day , bad some days, looks like the days might be cooling off Definitely worth the trip, we carry fuel on the farm if that would help.strip is near Kyabram
  6. If you are keen to go to Mt Beauty we have been there many times , caught a few small trout in the pondage, only 15 min walk into town , you could stop into our strip which is sort of on the way, also dodges a lot of tiger hiding spots , and we could organize a flight,
  7. Anybody heading to the BBQ at Lethbridge on Saturday, if the weather looks OK I think I will go maybe find out a bit more on the rumoured dreaded annuals
  8. thanks
  9. Going to have a go at RPL , I have not got my tailwheel , can I do that with a RAA instructor, and then in a Cherokee for the RPL will the tailwheel come across, not many GA planes around here with a tail wheel
  10. what then happens to all the 19 rego planes that have been on sold , can the new owners do their own maintenance if not they are in the same boat as GA
  11. owner maintained planes is the biggest attraction to our type of flying , take that away and it will finish a lot of us off, most of the second hand raa planes I think would become worthless, if you could afford it might as well pick up a old 140 Cherokee for 40k and be stuck with 5k annuals
  12. As in private use raa owners can do their own, I think he was referring to GA type maintenance release annuals.
  13. Talking with a lame mate today and he reckons we will be looking at compulsory annuals next, anyone think there is any truth in this.
  14. Thanks for the info , looks like by Tuesday they will be to far south, I really only wanted to see the bigger yachts, maybe head to tassie.
  15. Would Mallacoota be to far west
  16. So by the next morning they would be too far south, what's the next strip down
  17. About when would they be passing Merimbula
  18. thinking of flying to Merimbula and then out to watch a the Sydney to Hobart yachts sail past, wondering how far off of he coast they would be , any ideas?
  19. Was told our diesel fuel has traces of bitumen which hammers the common rail injectors which cost a fortune to replace so had this fitted in Bendigo, made in USA, don't know why it couldn't work on any engine
  20. just had a flash fuel filter fitted to my bt50 ute. wondered if it could be adapted to our aircraft , has the micron down to 2 separates any water and if detected shows a warning light, has its own internal pump, bit on the bulky side though.
  21. sport pilot,I understand it takes up a bit of time , wondering if it came out bi monthly so they had more time to research more flight tests etc and maybe reinstate the classified section which was the first thing I looked at , I reckon I read one article on radio use that was just repeated from a past issue.
  22. just got the latest mag, looks like its going the same way as the old pacific flyer, not many articles and full of pictures, I enjoyed reading the flying tests of any of our planes, , the technical stuff is good so are the trips away by pilots .
  23. The first time I've heard this requirement, at any flight level!
  24. Plane has a ceiling of 16000 ft , I know it was maybe a stupid question and rightly so deserved some of the answers, but up to 18000ft if it's still under VFR. these levels might get you out of the hot summer lumpy air
