Damn the iPad auto spell! Why are you keeping your firearms under your plane? You aren't mounting them under the wings are you?
I might have to reconsider mounting rockets to my wing tip:big gun: -

This morning I was grovelling under my wing draining tanks and managed to spill AvGas everywhere.
I've had fuel all over me before but now that I am no longer young and bulletproof I crawled out and went to wash it off. My hands and firearms were covered by a noticeable white film. I presume this is the TEL additive. If so, there's lot more lead in Low Lead AvGas than I thought.

Who is on the lookout? A few sheep farmers?...A raid could be launched from a stealthy aircraft carrier on Williamtown but the aircraft would be spotted before they got to Tamworth. There'd be a good 5 minutes warning available. The human animal is always preparing to fight yesteryear's war. Singapore was not set up to defend against the highly mobile and air-supported attack mounted by the Japanese. (The British should have known better, because they taught the Japanese how to build aircraft carriers.)
We spend up large on big hardware when the major threat is probably from infiltration or economic sabotage.

I believe that was a factor in setting up our early steel industry at Lithgow: far enough inland to be safe from naval gunfire.
'militarily, it should not be located within shelling range of the coast'....... Yes we have to be aware of 19th century flotillas from Spain, France and Russia. -
That is still my preference, and I've copped flak for being a wimp in gusty conditions. You did say"thing.". I have to have some agreement with you about slow landing planes. They are really gust sensitive. The early pilots had the right idea. Only fly at dawn and dusk, when conditions are calm. Nev-

It pains me to admit it, but I have to agree with SDQDI.

For all the shrivelled-up bean counters: we humans can acheive anything if we really try.

Gareth there is also the privately owned Walsend strip. They have been known to welcome visiting aircraft.

We wouldn't want that would we?But hey I'm just guesstimating and didn't want to agree with OK:wink: -
Nev I presume little planes like ours are less susceptible to down bursts because we have far less momentum.
Which RAAus pilot would be out and about in those conditions anyway?

Australia claims stewardship of vast amounts of the ocean around us. Matching that we have responsibility for rescueing people in our patch. Our expenditure on the search is not large compared to government spending in many questionable areas and has considerable potential benefits, not least of which: Australia is learning lots about the Indian Ocean floor. For future air safety we need to know what happened. The families deserve answers. How long is the Government going to waste taxpayers money looking for this jet ? They're all dead, lets move on.We spend lots on diplomacy and promoting our country as a good global citizen (although our current PM has done enormous damage to that image). This search can only help raise our profile.

In my teens I shot dingoes for pocket money and gained great respect for their intelligence. Like wolves they have a place in ecosystems but we should ignore the glamourising by movie makers- they are cruel killers.

As I mentioned Chas, I have had some nasty right wing drops at the stall (Jab-powered, prop turns opposite to VW). Not all Jodels are the same: mine has quite a few changes to the original and until I've sorted out the problem I certainly won't be reducing effective washout by lowering aileron set.Lyle read above again then drop them around the thickness of the trailing edge. Then go and do some stalling right up to full power in a max rate turn. Note that different propellers have an influence. Torque. Chas. -

Emus are a damned menace to motorcyclists. They blend into the saltbush- you have to pretty much lay on the tank to see their head moving against the skyline.

With a delicate engine like the Jab why muck about with dodgy instruments? I had a single EGT and four CHTs run thru a rotary switch into a single analog guage. Was blissfully unaware of how bad my temps were until I replaced the lot with some good long probes from CAMit and an MGL digital guage. A lot of attention to airflow and sealing the engine bay reduced my CHTs by 24 degrees C.

Cockpit ergonomics often seem to take a back seat to aesthetics. Grouping levers and switches in nice neat rows is bad design. I like to have switches and other controls near the relevant instrument. You don't have to shut it down if it's really missing. The U/C and Flap lever are too close together on some planes that feature prominently with undercarriage problems....Nev

Hope they fit a spin 'chute for test flying; it's beautiful, but doesn't look inherently stable to me.
