    Good point Skippy.

But as I don’t  use 98 unleaded in my Lycoming that’s of little interest to me…Will  be  more significant to those flying with Rotax or Jabiru motors…

    Alan

    Thanks  Alan,

To paraphrase; As I don't use AvGas in my Rotax it's of significant interest to me.

I would suggest that the number of ULP users is significant (& rising) and it's only the conservatism of the aviation community as a whole, that results in this sort of discrimination.

  2. saying there is no quick fix means nothing gets done. You may be correct. Assuming you are an Au Citizen, you can vote for a candidate/party with policies  that have been developed using rational, rather than the usual emotive  claptrap/vote getters.

we need to change bail laws. Why? - On our justice system you are innocent until proven guilty. Only the potentially dangerous should not have bail privileges

jails have to be places people don't want to go to. not somewhere to catch up with mates .- Agreed ! but also should have strong rehabilitation programmes, overwise they are just criminal universities.

tobacco taxs should be returned to previous levels. if cigarettes cost no more than chop chop the tobacco war would stop overnight. all those taxes do is incite crime and  take food off the table in low income households. Prohibition, of any level, has never worked, except for organised crime. Fare better to put the tax payers dollars go into encouraging excessive drug taking (of all sorts) to be seen as socially unacceptable & dangerous to health.

i have seen it myself around here. the do gooder judges need to be sacked and get some decent people in there. The problem with this philosophy is that inosents end up in jail - would you like yourself/family member/friend to face a "hanging judge"?

What about all the torched and shot up houses. That poor girl that died the other night because scum torched the house she was looking  after for her brother. .

The do gooder attitude has caused a lot of this . It started with schools abolishing corporal punishment.

When we were young we were shit scared of cops now they get laughed at and attacked. School teachers are leaving the profession because of the violence and abuse by students and their parents. But don't worry about that nev.

Be very careful what you wish for - flogings may have worked for  a few, for others it just entrenched injustice. Giving the power to administer corporal punishment, to  a group of people without adequate checks balances on their mental state/training, is in itself, a crime. To my mind very similar to having general duties/highway patrol cops armed - way too easy to justify summary executions without good cause = State sanctioned crimes. As long as it happens to those with little / no voice we just shrug and let it happen.😈

nothing to do with me.  its for a friends gazelle.  it is registered with a 2 blade wood prop. to fit anything else means a marap.

There is no second guessing/logic in some bureaucratic decisions but I can't see making your own wood prop being okay and the fitting of a good quality/well tested composite ground adjust, being not okay😈

You can't ' buy '  cheaper , or made with dedication.

    Than your own work .

Expensive glue , & 3  very cheap ( by comparison ) planks of wood . Glued together.

Then your hard work to make a $ 50 , wonder propeller.

Even the " lofting " is simple .

Al true Spacesailer and I am all for artistry, cost savings & personal achievement/satisfaction HOWEVER this should be weighed against the benefits of a ground adjust composite propellers weather resistance, consistency, weight and ability to be optimise for the airframe/mission. 😈

  7. Just wondering - why the fixation on a wooden propeller??

There are so many very nice ground adjust props on the market. I wonder would not one of these fit your purpose & achieve a more optimised/durable & weather resistant, fan at the same time? 😈

Also, the footage whilst it looks fantastic is a lot lower than what is allowed by law. The footage we are watching is actually really close to the ground and he is not in the process of taking off or landing. As the RA-Aus rep for NT he should know better.

"Do as I say - Not as I do"

Aside from that - Publishing your law breaking seems to go hand in hand with the behaviour. Had a similar aircraft crash & fatality at The Oaks, a few years back - his naughty videos were all over the net. I believe CFI had words with him on several occasions.

In some areas in the US they are probably still on party-line phones.

The USA, supposedly the greatest democracy & economy today, is characterised by appalling poverty AND obscene wealth. Features that few administrations have acknowledged or tried to seriously tackle - a situation unlikly to change under the coming onslaught😈

Sales of Avgas are declining world wide & IOR want to sell as much as possible to try and recoup the costs of establishing self contained Avgas facilities at aerodromes. Rotax  and Jabiru are the most popular engines in recreational aircraft & very few now use Avgas. Jabiru have always recommended Avgas in their manuals (I think for litigation defence purposes) but advise anything 95RON & above is OK & they will advise you verbally to use 95 or 98.  2 strokes don't use Avgas either. IOR proposed a facility at our aerodrome but we weren't prepared to pay for it. World Fuel, a US based consortium has done the same & after much wrangling with local authorities looks like it may go ahead at no cost to us.

Personally i can't see them making much out of it as modern engines don't require 100LL. We have a petrol station just around the corner & most people use 98 or 95 RON automotive petrol except anyone using old lycoming & continental engines.

I guess my observation, alludes to generosity with little substance (as in a political offer that fails to be implemented).

IF this offer took any RAA time at all, to negotiate, I would also suggest that our Administration might use our time/money to much better effect. 😈

  11. "We encourage all members to take advantage of this opportunity and enjoy the savings on Avgas and Jet A1 fuel. Thank you for being a valued member of RAAus, and we look forward to bringing you more exciting benefits in the future."

    Hmmmm!

I wonder how many RAA Jet A1 users are enjoying this wonderfully generous offer.

As a dedicated ULP user the other New Year gift of AvGas is also pretty suss.

Is this one of those politically inspired demonstrations of largess, with a zero cost/benefit to the proletariat?😈

I now regret even suggesting it.  Novel ideas  ot accepted willingly here.  At Umi easily I was taught be excessively creative, find the problems with discussion in a group and then either develop or scrap. Mmmmm.

I am with you all the way - intrigued by Blueadventures pull/push cable - have started looking into it.😈

If you want simple automatic and probably the lightest solution use an expanding wax (as per water thermostat technology).  It is used in the cooling flap of a rear engined air cooled motor vehicle, a Fiat if my memory serves me right.  Just an actuator "piston" rod with the appropriate wax inside. Simple.

With aircraft, marginal cooling, you really need to be ahead of engine temperature rises - Cowl open for Taxi/TO/Climb-Out. Open again down wind, so engine cooling before even touching down and in case of full power go-round.😈

  15. FYI;

Most suppliers of SCEET & SCAT are now selling in lengths of 3 ft to 11 meters BUT tend to quote in the cost per foot (to suck you in?).

This can be quite expensive stuff to buy especially when only a small length is required and you are forced to purchase the minimum?

SkyShop would seem to be in a minority of one - they quote & sell per foot SCEET - 8  (2in) @ $25.20/ft 😈

  16. Hi Planey,

Thank you for your kind & encouraging words.

It seems to me that small/compact LA's would have many applications in small experimental aircraft, however this will not happen until they can be made reliable - a few hours of operation (cycles) before giving up the ghost,  is not reliable.

The reason for my optimise is simple - I find running electrical cables far easier than trying to do the same thing with the traditional levers & pull push cables.😈

  17. It would seem that a compact/small linear actuator,  with proven reliability, does not exist.

There are much larger/heavier units available but then there are questions of space to fit and weight to consider, along with changes to existing bracket, shape, size/location.

There have been not so subtle suggestions that I should avoid Chinese suppliers - FYI I have yet to find a single  supplier who does not have his LA's made in China.

I think I will fall back to a very simple system, that I have used on another aircraft to good effect - a winter & summer fixed flap. This will likely be a single flap with removable/replaceable air flow "chokes"  ie more "choke" for winter less/0 for summer opps.

Somewhere "down the track" a suitable LA may come on the market.😈

If toxic fumes are entering your cabin, then they will coming from the other (open and in use) ducts as well, so your reasoning that a single plug of non-aviation PVC failing, is going to poison the cabin, doesn't stand up to scrutiny.

Besides, you should have a working CO monitor in any aircraft cabin to ensure you don't get accidentally poisoned by toxic fumes.

Me thinks you take the analogy to literally - so I will answer you in the same vain:

If one or more of your control surfaces is jammed, due to the  "Home Depot" plug having come loose, no amount of gas monitoring will save you🤣

"Besides, you should have a working CO monitor in any aircraft cabin to ensure you don't get accidentally poisoned by toxic fumes."

You betray yourself, in your absolute confidence/dependence on third parties to make decision about your homebuilt aircrafts servisabity  - Monitors do not prevent poisoning or anything else. They inform (IF working correctly) & IF the pilot takes note/notices, of a potentially dangerous situaton  -IF!!! the pilot is in a condition to ameliorate the situation, they may save themselves.

You could inform yourself about the quality of alternative parts but Noooo!, rather delegate this to a (usually) unknown person(s)  who will issue you a piece of paper, inferring quality/suitability.

As always I support your right to make your own decisions in this area. However find your logic both wanting and now, apparently, inconsistent.🤣😈
