  1. G’day Skip, The noise level was unnoticeable. It was that effective you really only had to crack it open a very small amount. I never flew in rain hard enough for water to enter. I custom made the fiberglass scoop to fit the exact exit angle I needed. From memory the width of the scoop was about 1/4 of the length of the radiator. I used this heat box and scat hose from aircraft spruce https://www.aircraftspruce.com.au/catalog/eppages/homebuilderscabinheatbox.php if I was to do it again I would probably use the heat box/ splitter that Jabiru use which is around half the size. jason
  2. No, Nev. when not in use I diverted the air to the low pressure area at the cowl exit. We have plenty of hot days in North Queensland and the engine never got anywhere near hot. jason
  3. When I had my Rotax powered 601 HDS I made up a fibreglass scoop similar to this gyro setup. It captured a portion of the hot exit air from the radiator which was then plumbed to a cabin heat airbox. It was simple and extremely effective. jason

  9. Bill, when I had my Xair I got my tyres from here Trailer Parts | Garbutt | NQ Wheels & Castor Supplies I tended to pick up a few goat heads so got the heavier tread. They worked very well. Jason

  12. G’day Brett, I’ll lay money on your problem being your ducting to your radiator not allowing enough airflow. i’ve recently had to mount my radiator vertically on the engine mount near the Firewall on my 601 HDS and had the same problem. I originally had a Plenum over the radiator fed by various inlets but eventually had to make a NACA duct feeding directly to the face of the radiator to allow effective ground cooling. It now runs waaay to cool but that’s a simple fix with some Aluminium tape. Jason
  13. No. On his way South from Innisfail to Dysart. Landed at Ingham due to Weather and crashed it whilst landing. Jason
  14. That link was back in 2014. There was a Storch that flipped on landing a couple of days ago though. Jason
  15. Skippy, have you got a close up photo of the Staining ? If the Chemicals you have tried have had little effect, I would start doing test spots starting with a light Polish/Pad Combo gradually moving up to a heavy Compound and even Wet Sanding if required. Sometimes there just isn’t enough Paint to remove the defects and repainting is the only option. It would probably be easier and cheaper for you to get a GOOD local Detailer to have a look at it for you ( I may know someone in your area ) For protection you can’t go past a good quality Professionally applied Ceramic Coating although there are consumer grade coatings available prep is key to a good result. 22. Hi Rose , I see you’re from Townsville, what strip do you fly out of ? Jason
  23. I fly a 601 HDS with a tinted canopy and the Vans RV NACA ducts to eyeball vents for cockpit airflow up here in North Queensland. On the ground it can get pretty tropical but in the air we’ve had absolutely no problem. You can also buy retractable shade screens such as the Home which I’ve been meaning to get....more for shade while we’re parked at other airstrips. Jason
  24. Does this help Mate ? It looks like a factory calibration input. http://www.aviasport.com/pdf/Instruments/Datasheet_IM_105.pdf Jason
