  1. That's *really* scary. It's not like the other dots fade or blink a bit - they just disappear entirely, just like an oncoming plane...
  2. Interesting. Did you notice how the first one came out of the clouds with a bit of a bank? Assuming s/he wasn't turning intentionally then is that level of 'error' normal when flying on instruments?
  3. Rule #1: The loo is the last stop before the cockpit. Rule #2: Refer Rule #1! I have a bit of a problem 'holding on', so I don't like to go more than about 90 min between landings. However, my beloved hates the landings and is always pressing me to plan longer legs. On one long trip, I discovered that a) coke bottles have a very narrow opening, and b) when the warm contents cool and the air pressure increases on descent, the aforementioned coke bottle collapses in on itself. Lucky it was plastic and not glass!
  4. Loved the sounds of the blowie at around 0:50 - never would have heard that with a music backing!
  5. Hey Iggy, looks like Google Earth agrees with you
  6. Well, I'd *like* to fly once a month (finances don't stretch to much more than that), but work and weather and family circumstances don't always permit. Despite a number of attempts, I too haven't flown since mid Dec, and it's starting to get on my nerves.
  7. If you're landing momentarily, then you must be doing touch and goes. It's no wonder there's so many people in the air at any one time - they never get to disembark
  8. Considering the approach speed of those aircraft, it must have been a fair old whack of a cross wind! Notice that most (though not all) still managed to put the nose wheel right on the centre line.
  9. Doubt that I could persuade 'er indoors to go two years running... Ah well, I'd prefer to at home with a happy wife than at Temora with a grumpy one
  10. Well, looking down Ian's list of features, I can't see any on the vBulletin list that light my fire, but I do like the alerts system (and the faster loading speed) of the Xenoforo, so that one got my vote.
  11. You know how shopping trolleys never go in a straight line? I think he's just invented the flying shopping trolley.
  12. Funny reading a thread and then realising that its 2 years old! My adult children still come home to sleep over on Christmas eve (doubles as the good lady's birthday, so it's double the celebration) and then they sit on our bed in their pyjamas and open stockings. Funny how in some things they're not so keen on growing up... This year will be a bit different though. Our daughter has been living in England and she's coming home in mid January, so Christmas has been postponed by a few weeks. I hope none of you mind the delay.
  13. My little gnome has followed me through a few forums of interest. I think of him as 'flying' through the woods on this forum, and merely running through them on coolrunning...
  14. Interesting price on a Savvy in there. Got to be a typo, surely??
  15. Would leading edge tanks give you CoG change issues as the fuel is consumed, or is it close enough to the CoG to not matter?
  16. I think that looked like some of my early attempts at landing...
  17. Hi Maz. I'm happy to be corrected, but isn't the western lane classified as a danger area (D589) up to 1000ft as opposed to the restricted area that surrounds it (R578), meaning that it's not actually part of the military airspace? It's shown very differently to the 'normal' transit lanes like the eastern one on the VTC.
  18. Ok. Hands up all those who haven't done something that bruised their ego and affected their confidence while learning. Well? Anyone?... Nup, didn't think so. Welcome to the club, Glint!
  19. Interesting. I have no idea if you're right or not (my experience of instructors being limited to the RA variety), but I have a mate doing his GA FI course at the moment and I can't believe the amount of work that he has to put in.
  20. I was indulging another passion and racing in a triathlon. Perfect day for it. Flying twice in the next two weeks if the weather holds. Can't wait.
  21. I recall seeing a video demonstration (might have been on this site - I really don't remember) showing that a streamlined strut could be many times the diameter of a round one before the drag was equivalent. However, I also can't remember how many times more it was, so just call me Forgetful Jones...
  22. I wonder... What if you used the Al flashing to make the shape, and then fixed it to the strut by filling the space between with expanding foam? Block off both ends while you're filling it so that the foam expands against itself and fills the whole area evenly. Not only will it hold the fairing in place, but it will protect it pretty well from dents too. Not sure about the weight, but I can't imagine it being too heavy.
  23. Since when has that ever stopped a conversation...
  24. Hey, that's two good things in one day! Number one was spotting the mistake and fixing it in a really clear-headed manner, and number two was requiring a toilet break, thereby making us old blokes think that if it happens to young blokes too, then maybe we're not that old after all...
