  1. Aaah, I'm familiar with the old territorial grab. In my case, the light of my life suddenly took an interest in my shed building - suggested it would be really nice to insulate one end, and line with stained Tassie Oak t&g. And a skylight. I got suspicious when she marked out where to put the lighting, sink, and wood heater...... Now it seems there will be a dividing wall and door to keep my noise and paint fumes out of the 'she shed'. And I've lost half of my workspace. Anyway, Marty, you can give her the bit of shed with the leaky roof....... I note that your wood heater is moving to your work area
  2. Yeah, please stay away from the crocs. We want to see lots more drifter pics from you.
  3. Probably not any faster, maybe sooner!
  4. Dope? Nah, we don't use that stuff these days. It's all high tech volatile chemistry now. I've got a growing pile of empty tins outside the shed. And I gotta tell ya the stuff hasn't affairkted me at all at all. Mind you the up side of that is I haven't had to buy grog since I opened the first tin....... Must stock up on thinners for the Xmas party. Oh, I wonder why they label it "Retarder"?
  5. Too late ! I already got one of those (cringe) At least with fabric covering, I don't go to sleep counting rivets. - "Ten thousand and one, ten thousand and two.....zzzzz"
  6. Hey Marty, please stop all these progress posts. I'm getting the guilts. At this rate you'll be flying before I get the Lightwing finished.
  7. Good onya Marty. Keep up the good work.
  8. Plausible comments on a forum? Uh........ No
  9. Are you sure it was a jet? A faulty warp drive might look the same. Ask Chewbakka. Although there is always a rational explanation, it piques my curiosity too. Let us all know when you find out. How far away from it were you? was there any noise?
  10. You rang the wrong mob, roger. What do they know about UFO's?
  11. BUT Bex, God loves us all !
  12. Just to help those who think canning the printed magazine was a mistake, I have heard from board members that the amount of "cash bleed" saved by this was approx $330,000 p.a. Also, that the books are expected to head into the black by the end of this financial year. It would be nice if the mockers could find it in their hearts to give credit for RAAus achieving this.
  13. So, tell us, how successful would a new organisation be, without structure? Or transparency, or safety?
  14. What makes you think that a new organisation could avoid political problems? Any group doing anything will have the same old issues to deal with. And no matter how well intentioned this one is, it seems to be starting with some avoidance of transparency. Just sayin'
  15. Welcome to the flock.
  16. Let us know when your strip is ready and the forumites will bury the hatchet long enough to drop in for the opening BBQ
  17. There's another side to safety with the issue of dropping in to a park, etc. Sure, a careless spectator might hurt them self. But what about the safety of the pilot? Some time ago, I saw a chopper land in the park at Dili Beach (E Timor) within site of Parliament House. As soon as the occupants deplaned and disappeared a dozen kids descended on the chopper and played ALL over it for a couple of hours. I wonder how thorough his preflight was before he departed? I wondered how much helicopter was missing by then?
  18. Sometimes council representatives really get me going. Some time ago, I was passenger on a chartered chopper ride. We landed at Redcliffe. As I walked back from the machine ( helicopters are machines, not aircraft), a council 'official' pulled up beside me and assumed that since I wore sunnies, I must be the pilot, berated me for low flying over houses on approach to the airstrip. How would he know anyway? Well I knew we hadn't been. I told him so in no uncertain terms. Then as he was about to storm off to make trouble, I mentioned that I was only a passenger anyway, and he looked quite crestfallen.
  19. Don't worry, Fishla. It'll come to you.
  20. Ian , call me a colour cretin if you like, but I'm not impressed by the colour scheme as much as the content and navigability. Great as it is, for me. Peter
  21. Or sailors,either
  22. I agree with Yenn in that it is the job of the board to "steer" the executive. We have pilot candidates for board positions. They are not interested in building administrative pyramids. They just want to get balance. My hope is to see some more new faces in board positions (progressive bods who can cooperate to get things moving in the right direction) I think the "old guard" have been there long enough. Thanks for your efforts, bring on the new.
  23. Marty, When the time comes, I think you'll be too busy flying the CH701 to think about starting a scratch built ANYTHING......
  24. My post was not intended to offend anyone. I respect the enthusiasm shown in this debate. Bear in mind that (I believe) the present procedural issue arose after an executive decision was made in good faith after seeking legal guidance. My understanding is that this situation is transient - for an interim period between the old constitution and when the new constitution becomes effective. Is this so? Now that we are possibly exposed to risk, (depending on which legal advice wins IF tested in court) does the risk disappear after this interim period? By the way, saying it here (on a forum) is unlikely to have any positive influence on events either. We can chat about it here until the cows come home but in the end it's a bit like leaning on a bar in a pub, discussing the state of the nation. We all have opinions but without taking part in the actual running of the show, it does no good. Peter
  25. Posting complaints on a forum will never solve any problems. If you are so very upset by any RAA happenings, the best course of action is to become a board member. Failing that, get actively involved with as many board members as possible. Get actively involved regularly. Become a friend and a positive influence. Ask them why (whatever), and if you can't offer any positive, achievable solutions (achievable in terms of all actual constraints such as time, cost, resources, etc), then take a deep breath, sit down, and let the board and exec get on with their work without this constant sniping. It just doesn't help anything get better. Meanwhile, fly safe and have fun. That's what rec flying is all about. Peter
