  1. The wide screen in-flight entertainment enhancement. You wouldn't want your passenger to get bored would you? PS, BP, I hope you have a safe storage for the remote control. It could end badly if your passenger drops it. As for the aerodynamics, that screen is just like a big vortex generator. Scaled up to work at "drifter speed". Might make the drifter even easier to land short?
  2. Our local coffee shop has a sign over the pissoir. It reads... "Please consider our neighbours when you leave. Minimise the noise. Harley riders, this does apply to you, too." Furthermore, I'm annoyed. When I got knocked back on a roadworthy because my exhaust was 6Db too loud, I pointed out that most HD's were louder, he said "Yeah, I know. But they're Harley's". Grrr!
  3. Humour? Ooooh, I thought it was a good idea! By the way, Frank, have you got that passenger enhancement yet?
  4. Thank you Ian
  5. I've put it to the test when I had EFATO at about 200'. The automatic reaction steadily pushed the stick forward, maintaining glide speed and committed to straight ahead landing off the end of the field. That was the limit of the automatic reaction. Then I had a big delay (probably only 4 seconds) while my brain did the wtf routine. Then it was way too late to do any engine check or attempt a restart. My cognitive reasoning kicked in and carried out the landing without incident. After the adrenaline wore off I thanked my instructor. The training had kicked in as it should.
  6. Gliding taught me instant response to the "nose down" after loss of the/O thrust. There was no room for a wtf moment, it was a trained instant movement, perhaps a mental connection between hearing the windspeed, and the hand.
  7. Mike, I think most of us (not just greenie swampys) strongly resent being collectively screwed over financially by a foreign business that seems to have a very dodgy track record and seems to have lied or at least greatly exaggerated the job creation and long term economic benefit of their proposed coal mine.
  8. I once met a bloke who knew someone who SAID they drank Foster's. Once.
  9. We all know that a millionaire criminal never deserves punishment as much as a poor criminal...... At least that's how it works out in the real world.
  10. Also it's a warning about how some operators view aircraft maintenance. (As far as an accountant can see, maintenance is a drain on profits). Maybe the passengers were protected because they were travelling to Mecca. Reading between the lines, it appears that good old USA is not above corruption any more than the African owner of the Jumbo. He only served a couple of months of his rather light four year sentence in USA.
  11. Ever wonder what happened to that Jumbo that lost its cargo door, way back in 1989? It had an interesting life .... https://airscapemag.com/2016/05/23/united-flight-811/ This is my first attempt to post a link. Hope it worked.
  12. Might be worth noting that VDO have two different catalogues. This can cause confusion, depending on where you source your sender. In USA, a 360-004 sender has a 1/8 NPT In Australia, a 360-004 has a 1/4 NPT. It seems that in Australia, a 360-002 has a 1/8 NPT thread (1000kpa or 150psi full scale) Check carefully before committing to using anything on a Rotax.
  13. Welcome to the forum.
  14. What really matters is,...... Just how big is the aft deck of your yacht?
  15. Welcome to RecFliers anonymous. We're all addicts here, so you'll be in good company.
  16. Thanks for the offer Frank. I just wanted you to know that you are doing a lot for recreational flying. As well as the forum regulars, there are probably quite a few lurkers - and they should be impressed with driftering. It is the kind of flying that should be bringing more converts over to learn what fun real flying can be.
  17. Good onya Frank. Keep up the good work.
  18. I don't knock Landrover. My Landy lasted 50 years of abuse before needing rebuilding. And unlike modern counterparts, it can be rebuilt. So should be good for another 50 years. Maybe some of the more modern ones aren't so good. Not many Asian vehicles can match that.
  19. It never did. That was all hearsay
  20. That debate (succession planning) has been going for quite a time now. Same problem with the gliding movement. There's little to be gained by asking the converted. The really hard demographic group to survey, is the vast numbers of folk who wouldn't dream of taking up sport aviation. Whenever I go on a evangelistic spree, people just glaze over. How can I inspire imagination and adventure? All I can do is show my enthusiasm. I think that Frank does more for our flying future than anybody else I can think of.
  21. Entertainment is now all about easy options and short attention spans. (Aaaah,. What was I on about?.....) There is little incentive to get involved in anything that is challenging. Except maybe the physical sports, but then again even that has succumbed to the easy option of performance enhancing drugs.
  22. I am hoping that RAA are attempting to address the whole MTOW issue for Lightwing. My GA-912 is limited to 480kg but that makes it a single seater. It was clearly designed to be a two seater training aircraft, but at the time it was first registered, the law limited MTOW to 480kg. So I'm stuck with that at present. I hope sanity prevails
  23. Perhaps another aspect is the issue of mortality. Those (grey haired old gits) who played with Grasshoppers and such in their adventurous youth, are now only interested in building nice solid, safe aircraft that they dreamed of when they were young and invincible. Not many of the 'simple, cheap, easy to build' aircraft are being built now. So when a younger person sees an old bugger building a complex, years-to-finish work of art, they understandably turn away. Add to that our current risk averse nanny state, and is it any wonder that the old fashioned kind of adventure from when we were young has died out?
  24. Good luck Scre80 Keep up the passion. Nothing compares to flying.
