  1. Hey congrats buddy,Looks like you had some fun, first time out by yourself in the training area is a hoot, a little bit of apprehension and a lot of excitement, well done and keep it up.

Bindoon looks like a little aeronautical haven, my kind of an airstrip ... a long paddock. Was that a slight tail wind I saw on the windsock as you were coming in?

Looks like a good video setup you have there, it doesn't distort the prop rotation, what is the set up, I am interested because I have seen many and want to set one up myself soon.

    David

    Hi David,

I explained my setup here: http://www.recreationalflying.com/forum/video-clips-forum/98355-circuit-compilation.html#post201826 - Bindoon was VERY busy yesterday, I couldn't believe how many aircraft were flying around, it was a little like Jandakot! 006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif Was a crosswind, hence the crap landing. Bindoon's a great place, the strip is well maintained, the people are great & I love flying there.

Looks great mate! Keep it up

    Thanks mate

    • This is video of my first training area solo in the Jabiru J160C over Bindoon. I went approx. 05nm out and practiced some stalls (clean, flaps, power on and approach config - however only clean is uploaded), steep truns & side slips. I hope you enjoy watching this as much as I enjoyed flying it :).

  3. Hi Pud & Keith,

Yes I tend to blab my calls out very fast and yes it is Bindoon Abandoned, as a matter of fact when I did my TIF I had to ask my instructor what he was saying because I couldn't interpret the abandoned part. I'll work on slowing down this weekend. It's just the camera view that gives off the deceiving view, if you take a look at some of my other videos on youtube with the camera mounted above my head, all is ok.

Thanks for commenting.. Since I'm a low hours pilot, I need people to comment on my flying/radio etc... so in return I can improve it.

    Regards.

  4. Hey Sam & Alley,

I've attached a picture to describe where I mounted the camera a bit better than words. I'm currently using a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV19E (7 years old) and an Aiptek HD200 for recording. I use this mount to stick it to the window: Suction Mount Tripod Holder For Car Window Camera Hold - eBay, Other Accessories, Video Camera Accessories, Cameras. (end time 13-Jun-10 13:58:38 AEST)

Image is courtesy of the Jabiru website & the picture displays a J120, I fly the J160.

    Hope this helps,

  5. Hi Sam,

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad to see another J160 pilot on board! I love your videos & I've subscribed. If you wanna check some of mine out look up 'sseeker21' I've got a few videos on there with different camera views. Be sure to link your youtube videos to our video gallery by going to: Multimedia > Video Library on the top menu bar.

  6. Great to hear you had fun Andrew,I am about to do my first flight in a Jab 160, so I am curious, I have been told that the Jab aileron response is not as good as the C150/2 at low speed on the flare and hold off .... what is your experience. Did you find the 152 docile and predictable in control or twitchy compared to the Jab? What was your initial observations compared to the Jab you flew (you didn't say which model Jab).

    David.

    Hi David,

I fly the Jabiru J160C usually. Jabiru aileron response isn't the best at low airspeed but it's fine at higher airspeeds. The C152A requires minimal input to the controls even at low airspeed, but keep in mind the C152A ailerons are about 3x the size of the Jabiru's. The rudder is very touchy on the ground, but in the air I didn't notice that much difference. My first observations would be the toe brakes, they're very sensitive. In the Jabiru you need to think ahead a bit, the rudder is pretty firm on the ground. Good luck with your flight in the Jab! I'm sure you'll enjoy it

I'm looking forward to your next report on spinning but in the meantime I was just wondering whether you had the option to cancel as you specifically wanted to do spinning?

Yes I had the option to get a refund, credit or go flying...

  7. Hi everyone,

Well today was the day, I went down to Jandakot and guess what? XXXXty weather so no spinning for me... I did 1.1hrs of flying in the C152, which included a PFL, 1x Clean Stall & 1x landing config stall, 45 and 60 degree steep turns & my graceful departure from the Earth (as John King would say). I can confirm, after 26.7 hours dual and 2.2 hours solo in the Jabiru, you should be able to fly a C152A.

I took out VH-RWQ from the Royal Aero Club of WA, I did the preflight, hopped in and went through the endless checklist to start her up. She coughed, spluttered and started and after 4,600 hours you'd expect her too. Well the nerves started because I could no longer rest my hand on the lovely hand brake like in the Jab, it was all in the feet. After a bit of swerving around I got the hang of it, we arrived at the run up bay, did our run ups and lined up... Takeoff was rather weird because the rudder pedals are really light, departed Jandakot via Yangebup Lake and then to Lake Thomson. Begun our steep turns, not that hard... Went over to the training paddock, did a PFL and she was impressed... Went over to a forrest and did some stalls (yeah I thought it was kinda weird that she wanted to do stalls over the top of a forrest at 3500ft) and there was no comments there either, apart from 'good' lol. Came back into Jandakot via Six South then Forrestdale Lake, instructor let me do absolutely everything from joining the circuit to landing, and the landing wasn't bad either! A bit off center but I touched twice (softly)

All up it was a good flight, easy aircraft to fly and I'll go back again to do spins in the near future...

  8. Hey Jools,

Welcome to Recreational Flying, you'll enjoy the flight training, it's loads of fun! I see you're training on the 160, great aircraft. Good luck with your training and let us know how it all goes (especially the first solo)

    Regards,

    Andrew

  9. Hey Pud,

This video was taken from todays flight. I had to use our old Sony Handycam because my new HD camera doesn't have an audio line in. Glide approaches are always fun, this was the first time I'd done them solo. Intercom was easy to record, I purchased an intercom recording cable from Xcom Avionics @ XCOM 760 VHF Aircraft Transceiver for Sport Aircraft, Ultralights and other Aircraft Needing Clear Powerful Transmission LSA, Light sport aircraft for $30AUD.

  10. Which are all standard in the iPhone... :big_grin:Wait till they get the new Gen 4 iPhone out (June + a couple of months), and you'll be laughing. You can multi task on the new one, so that'll increase it's usefulness a lot.

Mind you, the HTC's do look alright, but I'd go iPhone for ease of everything. Scratch the back - get a new one for $14, break the screen, get a new one for $50 or something dollars. (DIY kits)

    Similar prices for either phone.

Ps. sorry I haven't actually answered anything.

    Hi Tom,

I broke the silent switch on mine, sent it in and 7 days later I had a brand new iPhone shipped to me :) Very happy with the service. Recently theres been a break where someone installed Android on the iPhone, you have to have it jailbroken (no that does not void your warranty) but you have to be pretty computer literate to do it. HTCs look much nicer than the iPhone imo and I own an iPhone :hittinghead:

    Regards,

  11. Hi Nev,

It's on the first page in a users post, I won't name the user but just take a look.

By the way I appreciate everyones opinion, obviously it's going to be something different but I'm actually really looking forward to it. Not just the spins, but flying something I haven't flown in a year.

    Regards,

    Andrew
