  2. No to nuclear, taking into account decommissioning nuclear is vastly more costly than alternative sources. Storage of waste another major issue, seems those in favour of nuclear say just bury it and let future generations worry about the problems. Talk about temperatures 8000 years ago, they are talking 500,000 year half life for nuclear waste. Short term gain for a few, long term pain and annihilation of our planet in the long term. We also have to stop digging uranium from our ground, only real use is small amounts for medical use. The amount of humans on our planet is the biggest issue facing our future.

  5. Depends what job you are going for, as a pilot in GA (AG and fire) work has dropped away to virtually nothing. Weather plays a big part but it's a very mercenary profession, a lot of AG pilots now go overseas for employment. Might be different this winter with the rain they will be screaming for pilots shortly but as I said a lot of pilots have organised work away. When AG work is on your expected to fly 60 days straight then as soon as the work dries up your gone. Summers are a bit different on fires, if your on contract work that means work for at least 3 months. Last winter I decided not to go away and stayed and worked locally any work I could get, clearing native forest of weeds and pines/planting trees and welding/fabrication. All casual work (No sick pay) with no guarantee of continuing work past the weekend, pays enough to keep some groceries in the cupboard and that's about it.
  6. Agreed Bruce, life now is harder. It's crept up on us in the last 40 years or so, incrementally, not in one hit. Wages and conditions in real terms have gone backwards alarmingly compared to cost of living. There seems no such thing as a permanent job, either casual or permanent casual whatever that means.
  7. In Australia with most jobs now being casual there is no sick pay, you either go to work sick or can't pay the rent. Can't pay the rent then it's out on the street with the other homeless people and ex-veterans. How Australia has progressed in the last 30 years.
  8. What about the one Rod Birrel was selling in England? That was the same construction as a Thruster with a nose-wheel just called something else.

  11. No retracts I think, aircraft landed safely with no problems. Good outcome.
  12. I have flown aircraft with and without VG's, never been able to tell a big difference between the 2. The aircraft fitted with VG's did have a VERY slight firming of the controls at slow speeds, couldn't tell a lot of difference with take-off/landing speeds. Could only be I'm still learning to fly and haven't fully got the grasp of it yet I'll admit I did only watch a couple of minutes before I nodded off watching the linked Vid. Was there any conflict of interest or admission of commission/gifts/gratuity/donation/remittance/handout from VG sellers admitted during the video? I know it's not a requirement with yotubby to have any basis in truth or factual basis, most is taken as truthful. The bush/stol market in the States has gone mad the last couple of years, the likes of a Super Cubs bringing stupid money.
  13. Heard emergency vehicles being called to an aircraft circling burning off fuel at Hamilton this afternoon. The aircraft had trouble with nose undercarriage.
  14. That video looked like a retractable 172, a Cutlass not a 182. The back window with a divider is a 172 feature, the 182RG had a one piece rear window.
  15. Interesting evolution. I can't understand why very basic aircraft aren't more popular, seems everybody has to have glass dash and at least 2 axis auto pilot.

  18. There was no lead aircraft, they considered conditions too rough and didn't take off.

  22. He wasn't far off the ground when he pulled the handle. He didn't appear to try rocking it with power and elevator to get the nose down. From a distant past I remember they put strakes on the fuse in front of the tail-plane on Tigers and chipmunks to help with spin recovery.
  23. Somebodies pride and joy, recon it's a great grandson of the Percival EP 9. Very unusual full flying tail for a design like that.
  24. The hairy old chestnut of "Forward" slips. No such thing, your either side-slipping or your not. I did make a point of watching this all the way through, I find this series pretty hard to watch. He did not mention anywhere in the Vid about "Forward" slips, just side-slips and skidding turns. His side-slips I agree with, a good way of losing altitude/speed. I do not agree with his skidding turns, sure way to depart from controlled flight. With those places he demonstrated skidding turns he could have turned balanced without risk of tip strike. My advice would be NEVER do a skidding turn, any circumstances.
