  1. A hundred years ago on my very first lesson in a C150 during January Melb at YBSS clear blue skies short final the donk stopped! Instructor said just keep flying, lower nose a little, landed, donk fired right up again, carby ice on day one, I learnt fast😂😂 Another time a little later on doing an RNP into YMMB in the old Beech truck (B200) early one morning as the sun was turning up for work sea fog rolled in real quick down the far end of the Rwy, by the time I got on to a taxiway heading towards the tower for parking I could barely see each taxi light, hence to say I left the old Beech truck there and went home via taxi, far more dangerous actually😂
  2. You wanna see a strong headwind? After a loooong day in the ‘office’ this wind almost made me cry 🙁 I’ve had 50+ kts a few times at circuit height over the years in Sth Vic!😂
  3. My hangar doors aren’t sealed that well, I want the hangar to ‘breath’ with pressure equal both sides (or close) pointless putting rubber strips down the edges as birds can’t fly thru typical such gaps anyway! The doors are for safety and a reduction in WX related issues, all my A/C are kept under dooners and sheets inside anyway.
  4. B737, classic version obviously 😉😉
  5. The word Aviation to councils is like waving a red rag to a bull! Their sole purpose is to be obstructive 🤮
  6. Water is something that my planes never see! I use furniture polish after every flight, I clean the underbellies front to back, I like slippery airframes👍
  7. Still happens today, just not M/T😂😂 That event was an embarrassing time for Australian military😂😂
  8. Rollo I follow the guy (Don Fieldon)in the States Aeropup USA and he’s been building his demo one for years now!
  9. For many years timber was the preferred building medium for many forms of transport, that concept still applies here😂
  10. They can ditch the glossy mag, it’s just part of the rich boys club that has become RA these days!🤮
  11. At election time😂😂
  12. Flew into a grass strip not far from the gorge accomodation around 30 years ago in a PA42, can’t recall the airstrip name and all my older log books are buried, somewhere😂I recall cattle getting curious about this big grey thing settle in the middle of a paddock😉Lovely spot what I can remember.
  13. Oz ain't far behind those stats! I’m on vacation (as the yanks say) atm on the border new/qld and walking daily on the beach I see so many who have no shame! Whales in and out of the water!😂😂
  14. Mid 70’s @ YMEN, ah the good old days👍
  15. Tried to contact Floods the other day but the email goes to Rotax in Austria!🙂🙁
  16. Yeah genuine Rotax floats are black, the blue ones are epoxy, made by Marvel Schebler, the carby people. How much were they from Floody’s?
  17. It’s cheaper to buy from Spruce in the States inc postage than here in Oz! Lockwood USA don’t seem to ship to Oz🙁 They sure have a captive market!🙁
  18. Anyone seen the insane price of the blue type fuel floats for the 912. $940+ for a set with bowl gaskets, $1280+ for ‘certified Rotax’ floats!…..the worlds gone mad!……for a few bucks more I could buy the whole engine, well almost!😂
  19. Reviving an old thread. I bought a Texan 600 last year. Great little plane but they do have a few quirks. The original importer I believe lied about the M/T weight so in the early days many where flying over weight in the RA cat.Mine when re weighed gained around 45 kg’s! They are a bastard to do a thorough annual on, pulling the cabin floor up is a real pain! Not easy to get in and out of, especially for us old codgers😂 You sit kinda high in them, great view albeit an odd look as the bonnet drops away giving you the impression you’re descending in level flight. Undercarriage is a weak point, plane built like a tank (hence heavy) They have a poor Va speed, top of the green arc is around 97 kts. Low flap speed too, difficult to get full flap out in turbulence without over speeding them. Original Vs was 35 kts full flap, I use 40 as I don’t trust the manufacturers figures, it’s benign at 40 kts anyway. Has good short field perf due a large thick wing. Very light on the controls. Fly Synthesis sold the company some time ago, parts are hard to get I believe.
  20. Two years! unbelievable! But I guess it is Australia!
  21. Look at the bottom of a lot of home builds, some rivets are ‘smoking’ cause they are being constantly lubricated from the oily residue exiting from the breather pipe so this in turn lets joints move around. Vibration is metals biggest enemy, not point in promoting it!
  22. Whilst Jab are free to do what they want but one has to ask, do they really need the extra attention when these contraptions start killing people? Ugly is one thing but crazy decisions are another!
  23. Just came across this interesting thread as I’m doing some research as to why my Garmin TX got fried, by all accounts from a voltage spike as the Alt field CB pops sometimes. The Volt meter at times goes off the scale, well above 15v. I’ll start with the Alt/reg, I’m not sure if there’s a OV Reg in the circuit, much to figure out🙁
  24. Won’t see too many operating with these donks anytime soon. too costly not to mention that training is different to recip donks, plenty of pilots could easily cook these and repair bills would be very much ouch! Ill stick to recip donks in my bug smashers and let someone else pay for my kero burning flying😂
  25. ….oh it’s becoming rocket science😂😂
