Intermittent cold-start problem on original Jabiru 3300A Gen2 – looking for anyone who has experienced the same symptoms.

That's fine for setting, KG.
My point was it's hard to check the gap with a regular steel gauge, as it sticks to the magnet and feels like a snug fit regardless.

If contact does occur it will reduce the Magnetism in the Magnets because of the Impacts. Many magnetos have to be remagnetised.  Permanent magnets need a "Keeper" if they are  to retain anything like full magnetic "Saturation".  Nev
