JohnSim Posted Tuesday at 08:55 PM Posted Tuesday at 08:55 PM I am looking to buy a Jabiru 230, however, I want to keep it at Latrobe Valley or Tooradin airports. Does anyone know what the situation is with hanger space. I don't want to buy the aircraft until I have secured a place.
skippydiesel Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM Posted yesterday at 04:03 AM Non of us want our bird parked outside, subject to the vagaries of weather & sun, however the Jab (being indigenous to AU) will stand up to the fresh air, much better than most. My home field is predominantly populated by Jabs , most of which live in the open. A few have a bit of a shelter, full "canvas" covers, but most range from something over the prop & windscreen, to just a prop cover. To the best of my knowledge they have been this way for very many years - still fly. Purchase your Jab and a canvases cover to suit and put your name on the waiting list for a hanger space.😈
JohnSim Posted yesterday at 04:21 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:21 AM Thanks for your reply. I am happy to do that with some good covers. I don't think it is going to be easy to get a hanger quickly.
skippydiesel Posted yesterday at 04:40 AM Posted yesterday at 04:40 AM Get a price from this crowd, for a custom fitted cover (whole or part) http://punkinheadair.com.au/ Note: The covers protect against the sun, are water resistant (not proof), so make sure those areas of the aircraft that may leak (heavy rain) have supplemental cover. 😈
JohnSim Posted yesterday at 04:45 AM Author Posted yesterday at 04:45 AM Thats great, Thank you so much for your advice and help.
T510 Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM Posted yesterday at 05:58 AM Tooradin is about to revert back to being run by the original owners now that Amber Aviation's lease is up. They have a listing on PlaneSales. https://www.planesales.com.au/details/Listing/Property/12702/Property-Buildings-For-Lease-Tooradin-Airfield?utm_source=ListingID-12702&utm_medium=banner&utm_campaign=Property - Buildings For Lease Tooradin Airfield Get on to Kent about some hangar space. I am pretty sure they haven plenty available. They are looking to revive Tooradin after the years of neglect at the hands of the previous lease holder, pretty sure their new fee structure is similar to Tyabb. They have a new website as well https://www.tooradinairfield.com/ 1 1 1
JohnSim Posted yesterday at 06:02 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:02 AM That's good news, thanks very much for that info. I will check it out. I thought it had been run down. Appreciate your help.
T510 Posted yesterday at 06:30 AM Posted yesterday at 06:30 AM (edited) It was very much run in to the ground by Amber. Was a pretty sad sight driving past and seeing the windsocks in tatters and no activity. The Balas family built the facility originally and have taken back control as the site was not being looked after to the standard they expected Edited yesterday at 06:31 AM by T510
JohnSim Posted yesterday at 06:42 AM Author Posted yesterday at 06:42 AM That's good that the original family have taken control. It needs to be built up again.
Love to fly Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM Posted yesterday at 06:57 AM So no longer run by Amber? Hopefully will become a viable destination again. Has the restaurant reopened do you know?
T510 Posted yesterday at 07:17 AM Posted yesterday at 07:17 AM Amber are out, I think it officially transfers back to the Balas at the end of July. I think they are looking for someone to take on the restaurant lease and start it up again

It's a shame to see what they did to the place. No hope of a hangar at Latrobe valley unless you are very lucky . I think there is a waiting list anyway.
JohnSim Posted 11 hours ago Author Posted 11 hours ago Ok, thanks for that. Is there any problem with permanent parking on the tarmac or grass? 1

No. The jabiru I just purchased has been uncovered outside for a few years and is good. I know of a 230 that has been left outside with no covers since new. It's been there about 8 years I think. Still looks like new when they wash it 1
JohnSim Posted 10 hours ago Author Posted 10 hours ago Ok, that sounds good. Is there available outside parking available at Latrobe Valley? 1
BrendAn Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago 17 minutes ago, JohnSim said: Ok, that sounds good. Is there available outside parking available at Latrobe Valley? Yes. There are usually a few spare spots . Join the flying club and you have access to the tie downs and club facilities. It's a great club to be in. 1
JohnSim Posted 9 hours ago Author Posted 9 hours ago I will do that. I have been flying a Lance for 20 years and I fly into LTV often. However, I wont have access to that aircraft soon and that's why I am looking around to buy Jabiru. I really like LTV and the aero club. I used to live in Morwell and I did my first joy flight out of there 60 years ago. 2
BrendAn Posted 9 hours ago Posted 9 hours ago If your aircraft is based at yltv you get the bonus of no landing fees for locals 1
JohnSim Posted 8 hours ago Author Posted 8 hours ago I thought that would be the case. Thanks for all the advice. 1
