Kyle Communications Posted February 9 Posted February 9 Eprop have been working on 2 blade props for not only the jab engines but much larger usual aircraft engines. This has been a long process but they are at the pointy end now doing certification testing. They havent released any yet but they are not far away. The 3 blade props are designed for the Rotax engines mainly engines with a gearbox. Direct drive carbon based 2 blade props have always been a slippery issue. Mayny have tried but most have failed in one way or another. Just look at the problem with the Hartzel prop issue on the Titan engines in the USA. Cato have come up with a new development but yet has to prove itself for anything long term. I doubt though they have done this sort of testing. 2 3
onetrack Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I was expecting the full-sized frozen chicken! Doesn't everyone else hit frozen flying chickens on takeoff?? 😄

Kyle Communications Posted February 9 Author Posted February 9 I gather you didnt get the gist of my comment. I didnt want to spell it out and start a flame war of woke BS or animal right activists. Here we would have used a defrosted chook I would think...but in Europe you have to be seen to be kosher You cant say anything directly anymore because someone will be offended and thats almost a capital crime now days 2 1
Moneybox Posted February 9 Posted February 9 I don't think that test quit compares to the fully loaded pelican that went through the Jabiru windscreen a couple of years back. You'd need to add a few fishbones to your gelatin to get an accurate result. 2
skippydiesel Posted February 9 Posted February 9 More than fish bones - a few adult chicken bones as well. The test was however impressive, the "blob" (scientific description of a lump of gelatine) hitting the prop tip, delivering considerable force to the blades most vulnerable point.😈
facthunter Posted February 10 Posted February 10 The Impact effect would depend on the concentration and Temperature of the Blob. from A jelly to a Pot of Cold animal glue. "I like Aeroplane Jelly"? and the velocity of the Blade. Even a bucket of water Puts a great force on a Prop. Not sure about the efficacy of such a test. Props Have to LAST and be reliable. A chucked Blade will often mean the engine detaches. Nev 1
