There may have been some design input etc, but a Mercedes it isn't. and Continental have a lot of experience building aviation engines. . for a start its 170 hp , thats one option. the company that was modifying mercedes diesels for aircraft was taken over by continental and now they build the complete engine but it is still based on the mercedes design.
