You can have an RPL without cross country, just has the same 25nm limit as an RPC with a couple of variations

"Unless you hold a navigation endorsement you are limited to flying within 25 NM of:

  • your departure aerodrome
  • your flight training area
  • the route between your departure aerodrome and the flight training area."

You are better off finishing off your endorsements under RAAus typically as it tends to be cheaper, then they transfer to your RPL

I will bet when RAAus wake up to what is going on, they’re going to start charging people more money for endorsements, taking aircraft off their register so people can go VH. They will just introduce a raft of charges to try and make up the kitty even more.

I will be staying raa unless it becomes a problem . I only fly an ultralight around my local.area here.

I heard of one instance where they were unhappy with a guy wanting to take his aircraft off their register and they stuffed him around so much to try and delay him from going VH. That is very unethical. 🤢

I know of a 582 Gemini that is stuck in limbo now. They won't allow the transfer.

The Thruster Gemini (aluminium tail frame) never had a 582 from the factory, built 1985,86. The T300, T500 with steel tail frames did have the option of a 582 from the factory, built 1987 on.

I believe "on condition" engine operation has now been approved for the Rotax 2 strokes, a step in the right direction.

So if you have a pre 1987 thruster with 582 you can't transfer ownership and reg unless you can fit a recon 503.   What about shifting them to exp. Can that be done.

Back to the Drifter...

What a awesome hotrod that must be with a Italian stallion triple two stroke.

I want one with floats.

I believe the two seat Thrusters are type certified aircraft so in Australia experimental is not an option.

Re the Drifter, I really like 2 strokes but the 912 would be a better choice in every way except coolness to get 100hp.

I’m hoping to find out the real cost of what the MARAP was for all the Drifters  mods

It's a fixed rate for each marap isn't it. $770 ?

I’m wondering if that is the total cost for all of the mods applied for in one application or if they must be assessed separately on individual MARAP applications?

It doesn't NEED 100 HP and 2 strokes have the best Power/weight ratio. What is the actual safety issue that is supposed to be being addressed here?.  Nev

No. Every mod has its own marap because raaus pay around $30000 per marap and get it back off several people instead of one paying for the whole thing. The advantage to them is if it's a popular marap it will keep bringing in revenue. Long after it's paid for.

Next question I have to ask is does the MARAPs transfer seamlessly to a new owner or do they have to re-validate any MARAPs applying to the aircraft at the time of ownership change?

I would think the marap is attached to aircraft forever.

The DRIFTER'S NEVER EXCEED SPEED is not much above it's cruise speed and it's empty weight is slightly below 1/2 of it's Max weight.  That's with a 582 and a SB wing.  ( the only type I have flown).  Good thing. Nev
