Now that you mention it, I do have some vague recollection. Two points;

• I will never fit a slightly overlarge hose but will, if needs be, try a slightly small eg 16.5mm ID. Reason being,  a slightly small ID will seal against the spigot, fare better than a slightly large ID.
• If aged memory serves there were questions about the age of this hose - may have been around the time that I found out "rubber" hose actually has a shelf life.

Has nobody measured the spigots? They are all 18mm OD. A 16mm ID hose will be a very tight fit given the barb OD is 19mm

Confession time: No I have never measured the spigots (oil/fuel/coolant) just gone with the Rotax specification - my error.

 

It will be a few years (about 2 ) before I get the chance to measure the spigots but will try & remember to do so.

 

Just be a bit careful - some spigots , on the same system, are a diffrent OD.

 

A 16.5mm ID hose should fit a 17 mm OD spigot but as you say, asking a bit much if its actually 18/19mm.

 

My observation still stands - never go for a larger ID hose (even by a little) than the spigot OD - you will be trying to get the clamp to do the sealing for you, rather than the hose/spigot interaction..😈

I bought four of these 25mm hoses as well. If Sandra finds the invoice I'll post the list but anything not marked for the plane has just gone into a file of assorted invoices never to be seen again.

All of the above are Gates coolant  25mm ID.

 

The hard to find ones are  Gates Coolant 17mm ID - if you have found any of these  - please post the part numbers.😈

It would be great if we could come up with a list of Gates 17mm ID Coolant (heater) Hose 

 

Moneybox has given us two 17mm pre shaped hoses;

• 02- 1415
• 02- 1562

The shapes  (even with cutting to length) will not suit everyone's application, so a few more,  especially ones with a longish straight section, would cover more.😈

I have been curious about the Max temperature that my Rotax Ignition modules are subjected to.

 

FYI: Rotax 912ULS Max Temp. 80C

 

Found non reversible (irreversible) temperature strips used in automotive applications, for a reasonable price (compared with other suppliers);

Great idea, although straying quite far from the original intent of my thread. I might buy some of those, I'm.curious about the difference in temps between the two modules, since I imagine the top one gets more cooling airflow

Hi Danny G,

 

I always thought your initiating this topic was/is a stroke of geniuses. However it needs to be summarised into a logical, easily searched, list, free from the tangential debate that has accompaniment some of the entries.

 

The big question is - how to go about making the list???

 

A start would be dividing the list into common aircraft, engines (some entries would likly be under two or more headings)

 

What think you?

 

PS - Cost effective, temperature strips may be a valuable item in managing your engines heat impact on vulnerable/expensive components.

When I first started the thread, it was just to say to folk it's a good idea to compile a spare parts list for their aircraft. But of course many of us are running Rotax so those parts will be common to many aircraft.

I think the only way would be to trawl through not just this thread but many sources and compile a list. The problem being of course there will always be new sources. 

 

Talking of Rotax parts, was it you that was using the Vauxhall/Opel fuel pump? If so, how's it going so far?

Radiator cap is BMW P/N 17112345074 at about 1/2 of the Rotax price (fitted to BMW motorcycle F650 with Rotax engine)."

 

Radiator hose, section 106:

Note: gates 03-0010 and 01-0007 are 25mm ID and will replace the rear two bends and the right hand side short straight piece near the starter. 25mm is a much better fit.

2 X 02-0951 (Datsun 120y lower radiator). Leftover 70 something degree bend from above 01-0007 goes on right hand radiator tank outlet.

 

Oil coolers:

Manufactured by setrab

Part no. 50-110-7612 (Setrab Oil Cooler 210mm 10 row M22 female. Setrab part number 50-110-7612.) X 2. One has the brackets cut off.

Radiator:

A very helpful list although all Rotax installations are not the same.

The difference in your spark plug numbers is the heat range. The DCPR7E runs hotter than the DCPR8E so not a suitable alternative for everyone.

A simple editable Excel file might do the trick. Anybody could add a column or extra line for various engines or aircraft.

True ! - Thats why there is now a long list of possible Radiator (25mm ID) & Coolant (17 mm ID) hoses to choose from.

Before the current Rotax multi electrode plugs,  NGK DCPR8E were the recommended plugs for a 912ULS. The new plug is branded Rotax to avoid any issues of product liability - not because they are better performing.
