Hi Mauld,

Brilliant video, brilliant sound! Was that at Duxford?

Cheers,

They certainly do sound great. Having stubby exhaust ports and no attempt at silencing makes sure you hear it. Nev

Could someone please explain the different Spitfire engine types, I understand they have different sounds? And which version is the Temora Spitfire?

Kaz there's a two seater operating in the UK, last time I watched a documentary a woman owned it and she sounded like a very good instructor; get going

I remember as a teenager attending a camp near RAF Farnborough when I saw and very much heard a Spitfire Mk goodness knows what, flying overhead with a 2,000 hp turboprop engine fitted. Imagine 16 of those flying overhead. Having said that, there is nothing to beat the sound of Merlins.

I spoke with a German wartime pilot many years ago in Guernsey who flew Me109's and said that if they had been fitted with Merlins they could have probably won the war..

Alan.

Yep, the grace spitfire. (she is a local southern tablelands girl from way back.) Beautiful aircraft.

Did they find those buried WWII crates full of spitfires afterall?

Nope - nothing came of it. Great shame.
