    Agree about those books. I would also recommend Winged Victory by V M Yeates, and The Ideals and Training of a Flying Officer by Roderick Maclennan. The latter is the diary of a Canadian who came to England in 1915 and learned to fly a BE2B, then was posted to France where he flew an SE5A. It is a rather naive, but very engaging, account of the life and times of those early pilots. Neil

    Similarly, when I arrived in Australia, I was amazed that the sole replica of the Duigan Biplane - the first Australian designed and built aeroplane to fly in Australia - also languishes in a store room of the Melbourne Museum and is not on display to the public! I only managed to see it on a store room open day. Very sad - surely it deserves to be on public display somewhere... Cheers, Neil

    A couple of years ago I got my Rec Flying name - Neil_S - printed on a plain white T-shirt for exactly the purpose of hooking up with others from here at Fly-Ins. A lot of places will do printing like that for you. Cheap and simple (like me!) Cheers, Neil

    Flew from Penfield to Kyneton for their Gourmet Hot Dog Fly-In with my 6 year old grandson. Very enjoyable!

    Hi Tom, You are welcome to drop in on Penfield on Sunday Oct 14th at 10am for our pancake breakfast. I have tried unsuccessfully to get to Shepparton for your pancake breakfast for the past 3 months due to bad weather (as Lucy knows!). Check the ERSA - westerly circuits at Penfield (as Riddell's airfield 2 nm to the northeast), and under the 2500ft Tullamarine CTA step. Cheers, Neil

    Hi Michael, That is the route I would recommend anyway - it is arguably cheaper, and you can always get an RPL at a later date if you decide you want one, and your RAAus hours and endorsements should be taken into account. You will have plenty of time to research the differences, but the main thing is to just get flying!! All the best, Neil

    Hi Michael, Welcome to the site. Do you mean RAAus Recreational Pilot Certificate, or Recreational Pilot Licence (RPL)? There's a big difference. Anyway - I hope you manage to get whichever, and your own plane! Cheers, Neil
