  1. iPads use satellites for their GPS location and the cellular network for reporting that position. You will know where you are but cannot always connect to ozrunways or avplan or other system to report your location. If it is critical then a satellite based track reporting device would be the better option me thinks.
  2. Early this year I visited Pima at Tucson and the military boneyard where the guide pointed out that F16s were being converted to targets. With recent developments worldwide the suggestion(good oil) is that some are being refurbished for active duty.
  3. Don't just go for the younger flyers. I recently attended a 3 day engine maintenance course and had to teach a 60 something person how to read a micrometer as well as set a torque wrench. Said person had co built two kit aircraft during the last 12 months. We need a minimum skill level to be acquired and this may cost money but we need to show as a group we are working for safety in preparing our aircraft.
  4. I had to turn off4G on my iphone5 as it was marginal and kept locking up. So I just run 3G wherever
  5. Do you have, Settings, Passcode? If so enter your passcode then you can change the settings. Works on mini iPad and older iPad.
  6. Because you have different password settings which you can set to your needs, password/ no password
  7. Why oh why do people who would seemingly never intend to attend sit back and throw arrows. They criticise, ridicule and throw up red herrings without contributing to the general cause of flying. If you want to go, do it with planning. Otherwise crawl onto another site and waste their time. We want to be constructive not destructive. End of rant.
  8. I believe from locals that the air show dates were published first however the local show may have traditionally been on at this time. Maybe a lack of local knowledge when deciding the dates.
  9. Queuing for departure 1608 local Saturday
  10. A view of the flight line Saturday
  11. I didn't have time to attend any workshops but agree that the catering was overextended. However if you can advise the SAAA how to cater for an audience that can vary from about 20 if it rains to more than 1000 if it is sunny I am sure your advice would be appreciated. As Narromine has about 3000 locals the turnout of this order is hard to predict and then interest caterers to have vast perishables in the fridge just in case. I thought it was a success.
  12. Plane flips on landing at Tyabb Airport, pilot not hurt - ABC News ... www.abc.net.au/news/2015-09-06/plane-flips-on-landing.../6753478 2 hours ago - Peter Bernard, the president of the Peninsula Aero Club, who lives at the airport, said the "unusual incident" involved a Yak 9, a newly built ...
  13. The camping is allowed BUT during the display the parked aircraft are within the safety area. After the display finishes you are allowed to return to your aircraft. CASA rules not the SAAA. Don't blame the messenger please. Good turnout for a "working day" and great weather today.
  14. Be terrified but don't try to change history. When I started at Royal Casey in GA the instructors were PPLs who were working for chips to get their hours up for commercial not vastly qualified in anything. Amazingly we survived and went on to bigger and better aircraft or other things. Is this any different today. Low hours and full of importance.
  15. Since 1984 over 5000 kits have been sold according to the kitfox site
  16. I attended 3 major British air shows last month and was surprised to see a lot of the performances were towards the spectator line with a turn just before overflying. If a failure occurred they are likely to take out part of the crowd. This unfortunate mishap however was not into the spectators but shows that the worst can happen to the best qualified pilots.
  17. Comparing KF/SF to Jabiru is chalk and cheese. Look up utube and see where these Fox flyer land as well as other antics. Try some of those in a Jabiru. Not rubbishing Jabiru rather pointing out the capabilities of the Foxes. I am still coming down your way Metalman. Cheers all
  18. Interesting statistics Oscar. Do you have a breakdown on causes?
  19. What was the cost Yenn? Thanks
  20. In the early 80s BMW produced a 2 litre six "European Pack". Silky smooth and revved like tomorrow. Don't think they flexed.
  21. I have an unconfirmed report of nose wheel problems. Caused big delays to flights from SYD
  22. A great sight as always. I am revisiting Duxford and RIAT In July to refresh my memory of these tantalising sounds.
  23. Sorry but I don't think that CASA would be coerced into immediate action if RAA was to crumble. They could and maybe would place the exRAA business in the not important tray and continue on their merry GA path. They CASA, claim that they are currently poorly funded so we would have to pick up the crumbs. Changes to funding of government departments is a slow process. Recreational aircraft would just have to sit it out and possibly not fly. We have little leverage over CASA so be careful what we wish for.
  24. Adam, have you sent them an email detailing this? In your second link Richard suggests a way to go backwards to 8.2 to cure the problem. Goodluck.
  25. I was at YNRM for the 3 days of the Phoenix fly in (killed by the weather gods), and was at the presentation by the young CASA person. The implication was the downloadable copy was just waiting for the Easter break to finish and takeoff.
