Very Sad, There is a discussion on another site as to the blades, they were not rotating as two blades appear to be undamaged. (similar to Glasgow Pub accident) Also for Scenics the machine usually drops the pax of to explore the glacier & returns an hour or two later. There are 4 seats in the rear & two + the pilot in the front. Fly Safe R W From ABC Two Australian tourists, four Britons killed in helicopter crash in New Zealand, police believe Updated about 8 hours ago Photo: The wreckage was found in a crevasse, but rescuers have had difficulty reaching it due to the terrain. (Supplied: NZ Police) Map: New Zealand New Zealand police believe two Australian and four British tourists have been killed in a helicopter crash in Fox Glacier on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island. Key points: Tourists killed in helicopter crash on Fox Glacier not yet named NZ Herald reports pilot was 28-year-old Mitch Gameren Weather on glacier reportedly "terrible" at time of accident A paramedic and an alpine rescue team who were winched down to the crash site confirmed there were no survivors, a police spokesman said. "It is believed two were Australians and four were from the United Kingdom. Formal identification of those people will take some time," a statement said. "Police have been liaising with the embassies of the countries concerned to ensure the next of kin are advised of the situation." The helicopter's pilot, believed to be a local, was also killed in the incident. Foreign Minister Julie Bishop said she had spoken to the families of two Australians believed to have been on board. "We hold grave concerns for two Australians who were believed to have been on board the helicopter and we have spoken to the two families concerned," she said in a statement. "My sympathies are with the families of the crash victims at this very distressing time. "I am advised that the location and weather conditions at the crash site are difficult and full details of the crash are yet to emerge." Photo: Mitch Gameren has been named in media reports as the pilot of the helicopter. (Facebook) The sightseeing helicopter plunged into the Fox Glacier, a popular tourist site on the west coast of the South Island, with weather conditions reported to be heavily overcast and raining at the time. The Squirrel helicopter was operated by Alpine Adventures, which said it took off on a scenic flight this morning. The New Zealand Herald named Mitch Gameren as the pilot, adding he was from Queenstown. Gameren's step-father, Kelly Bray, told the Herald he was an "all-around good guy". "We've had heaps of conversations about not taking risks. We'd like to think he was super cautious," Mr Bray told the Herald. The wreckage was found in a crevasse but rescuers had difficulty reaching it due to the rugged terrain. Police said the retrieval of bodies could take some days because of the atrocious weather. "I'm not going to risk any more lives, we've lost seven," inspector John Canning told reporters earlier. "The terrain at the top of the glacier is very rough, as you can imagine it's icy and there are crevasses — it's quite dangerous." Weather conditions 'terrible' at time of accident Photo: The helicopter crashed on Fox Glacier on New Zealand's South Island. (Tracey Nearmy: AAP) Grey District mayor Tony Kokshoorn described weather conditions around the glacier at the time of the accident as "terrible" with heavy rain and poor visibility. "It wouldn't be a good day to be flying helicopters," he said. The Transport Accident Investigation Commission has opened an investigation and four investigators were due at the scene this afternoon. Debris from the wrecked helicopter was spread over several hundred metres with the main part of the aircraft wedged between house-sized blocks of ice. The alarm was raised late on Saturday morning when an emergency locator beacon was activated. The New Zealand Rescue Coordination Centre sent four helicopters to the glacier where they found a deep scorch mark leading to the helicopter about 762 metres up the glacier. Fox Glacier is on the remote west coast of New Zealand's South Island and is visited by thousands of tourists each year. Alpine Adventures is a company that provides scenic flights and landings on the glacier, according to local media. In 2010, a plane headed for Fox Glacier crashed while taking off from a nearby town, killing all nine people on board, including four international tourists.

Helicopter missing between Sydney & North West NSW
Rotorwork replied to Rotorwork's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
From the Newcastle Herald THREE people are missing after a helicopter disappeared on its way to Sydney on Saturday. Newcastle crews are conducting a search spanning from the Hunter to northern Sydney for a helicopter which took off near Tamworth on Saturday and hasn't been since. It's believed the helicopter had three people on board when it took off from Breeza on Saturday, bound for Sydney. It has not reached the destination of its two-hour route. It's understood the helicopter was headed to Mona Vale, in the Northern Beaches area. The privately-owned EC135 helicopter was headed for Mona Vale from Breeza, near Tamworth, on Saturday but never arrived. Both the Australian Maritime Safety Authority and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter are currently searching the most likely flight route. Search and rescue officers are seeking extra clues to narrow the search zone. No mayday calls we received by the plane, and the AMSA said it was only made aware that the helicopter had not landed on Monday morning. (Not sure why they said no mayday calls we received from the plane RW) Australian Search and Rescue is leading the search with several aircraft reportedly involved. AMSA said roughly seven helicopters would join its plane combing the coast, as the Westpac aircraft scanned the southern end of the search zone. A spokesperson for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter confirmed the rescue chopper had been activated this morning to assist with the search. "A search is currently underway involving a total of eight aircraft including the Newcastle-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter for a helicopter which reportedly left Breeza on Saturday and failed to arrive at its Mona Vale destination," the spokesperson said. "At present Westpac Rescue Helicopter has an area on the Central Coast as its designated area while other aircraft have been assigned to other locations for the present." -
Hoping for a good outcome on this one. Had read it is an EC-135. From ABC News Search underway for helicopter missing between Sydney and north-west NSW Updated 3 minutes ago PHOTO: The Westpac helicopter is involved in the search for the missing helicopter. (AAP: Paul Miller) MAP: Breeza 2381 A search is underway for a helicopter with three people aboard which has not been heard from since leaving Breeza in north-west New South Wales on Saturday afternoon. The Australian Maritime Safety Authority said the helicopter was flying to northern Sydney - a trip that should only have taken a couple of hours. AMSA said the helicopter was only reported missing this morning just after 8:00am. The authority's Dornier 328 Search and Rescue plane is inspecting the northern part of the likely flight path, while a rescue helicopter is searching the southern part. The search area stretches from the Hunter Valley to northern Sydney. No mayday calls or emergency beacons were detected, AMSA said.

Well done Matt, fantastic achievement It would be great to see the race back in Australia. From ABC Lake Macquarie close to securing International Red Bull Air Race Updated 14 Apr 2015, 1:11pm PHOTO: Lake Macquarie council says it's close to securing the International Red Bull Air race. (Karim Sahib, file photo: AFP) MAP: Charlestown 2290 Lake Macquarie council says it's close to securing the International Red Bull Air race. Council's economic development firm, Dantia has applied to Destination NSW to help fund the event. If successful, the city could be hosting an air race as early as March 2016. Dantia chief executive Adam Cougle said it would be a huge boost for the Hunter's tourism industry. "This will be the largest regional event ever in NSW," he said. "Therefore with Lake Macquarie city not having the largest accommodation capacity, the event will flow into the entire Hunter Valley. "Newcastle will be full, the wine country will be full and Lake Macquarie will be full for that weekend."

Beautiful machine I can afford to buy one, my new shed was built to house one, but I will wait a year or two to see how they perform. Plus I am afraid to tell my partner about my desire to own one. Can't see it happening but in the future they recon the price of the icon will drop. Pigs might fly as well. Fly Safe RW

Sting nets a "Sting" at Deniliquin
Rotorwork replied to corvairkr's topic in AUS/NZ General Discussion
Gold Coast Sports Flying Club members said they are shocked by the allegations. “It was a bit of a surprise,” club vice president Malcolm Aldred said. “He sometimes comes to club meetings and if you needed a hand with anything he was always available to lend a hand.” He will probably get off as he was lending a hand to the Hells Angels:scooter: -

Bonanza Accident Southport QLD
Rotorwork replied to Rotorwork's topic in Aircraft Incidents and Accidents
Fuel Injected = no venturi From Wiki The primary difference between carburetors and fuel injection is that fuel injection atomizes the fuel through a small nozzle under high pressure, while a carburetor relies on suction created by intake air accelerated through a Venturi tube to draw the fuel into the airstream. -

Another weekend, another accident, luckily not fatal From ABC http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-08-16/pilot-escapes-light-plane-crash-on-gold-coast/6700966 The pilot of a light plane has escaped with scratches after crashing into bushland on the Gold Coast. The 75-year-old man was flying his single-engine Beechcraft when he got into trouble when coming in to land at the Southport Flying Club airstrip about 9:50am on Sunday. Queensland Police said his engine lost power during the descent. The experienced pilot crashed into trees at Coombabah, where the plane came to rest upside down. "While there was damage to the plane ... the cabin remained intact," a police spokeswoman said. "The pilot exited via the rear doors." The pilot was taken to the Allamanda Private Hospital for a check-up, but his injuries were minor. "[He had] light scratches," a Queensland Ambulance spokesperson said. "That's a minor injury considering the crash."

Noticed this on the news tonight Once you've jumped from the edge of the space (http://win.gs/FreefallFromSpace), the bar is set pretty high for future thrill seeking projects. Since leaping from stratosphere, Felix has been exploring his passion for flying helicopters, and it was these skills he showcased in Poland during the recent Red Bull Heli Drifting performance.
