  2. IMO- the difference between hear and facey, is there's no where to hide on face book!

You get a name, photo's, in most cases town they live in etc......

Hard to be a troll with all of the above.

In saying that , your site is awesome and far above facebook.

If your site worked like face book, poor old $& wouldn't get any friend request accepted

And may get lonely, and then there would be less entertainment. Oops I mean drama.

  3. Had a great dawn patrol and catch up sat to Brooklands Airpark ( Wellington sa) wind were not the best but once again the nieuport handled the 9 kt x- wind fine..

Video was taken and is posted on facebook page " the airport lounge " and public viewing on facebook page " Brooklands Airpark".

Not my vid so can not copy and paste here? :(

  4. IMO-Real ultralight flying is still dirt cheap ? If you want it to be !!!!!

My First ULTRALIGHT in 2005 cost $3000.( my age 27)

Number 2 ,in 2011 cost $3500( fully enclosed cockpit)

Wanting something that looked conventional and a bit faster in 2012 cost me $6000 ( still affordable)

Maintanence on the 2 strokes easily affordable.even a 2 seater side by side seating can be easily bought for 5-10 k.

I have a family friend which visits most months , he always believed flying to be well out of reach. And thought ULTRALIGHTS( you remember them?those funny looking things with lawn mower engines ,wrapped in rags) were expensive.

I now have him not only preaching the affordability but saving for his first ULTRALIGHT - and certificate . He is shooting for $10,000

To cover his certificate and has lined up a ready to fly thruster Gemini 2 seat side by side. $5000( which is happily waiting for him). Training at FACON HAWK in the thruster = $150ph. he was going to save for a second hand motorbike but when he realised for the same amount of savings he WILL be flying with his new certificate from his farm in his own ultralight. Well- need I say ,more.!

It's not the first time either ,I have 2 other friends whom also will join the ranks now they know how affordable it can be.

So flying true ultralight aircraft is still very much affordable if you want it to be.

  5. I have a 582 with 270hrs on it.I get a lot of different opinions on a rebuild or just buy a new one.

Im open for suggestions as I have approx. 18mnths to go, at the rate I am flying.

Is the 300hr a Max for rebuild or can I stretch this out by a few hrs??

What sort of money can I ask for my current 582 once it has 300 hrs? as it can obviously go towards the cost of new.

I ran mine old one to 520 hr and most go to 600 . Manufacturer states 300 hrs so it's really up to you. I plan on rebuilding my new one ( already on 15 hrs) at the recommended 300. The reason I wanted a new one was so I know the engine has been looked after to specs.

  6. I don't follow what you mean by this? VOR freq is not a coms freq.

Yeh sorry ( sheepishly)ignore the VOR. Whats your opinion on doubling radio calls? Am I clogging the radio by making 2 different calls ( I feel safer this way ) on 2 different frequencies? Can't help but think the one day I don't , an RAA on ctaf will fly over unaware as to my intensions ( murphies law). If every one sticks to the legal frequency I'd be happy and safer( there could always be un radioed ultralights flying however like my nieuport not required to carry a radio). But unfortunatly there is no garentee that everyone will oblige.

  7. Yes the area frequency if a tuff one here! I have been using ctaf for years and in that time at least a handful of times my departing call has been answered by over flying raa aircraft to establish a non collision . However just recently I had the lightwing soaking up the sun ready for "local flying under 1500" only to find one of fav planes. AT-802( air tractor) skimming the tree tops at no more than 2-300 ft then cross directly over my property/ runway. ( not judging his lack of hight considering he was not spraying in the area!), I could not help think another 10 minutes and could have been interesting.so now I have a dessision to make! Ctaf and avoid RAA aircraft? Or area and avoide the big boys? Also I sit 14 nw east of tailem vor and 16 nm east from Brooklands air park. VOR is 116.60, Brooklands ctaf 126.7 and area is 125.3 I often here the ga boys entering tailem VOR on 126.7 and figure they do this as Brooklands is only 2 nm away then I guess they switch to 116.60? So what would you guys suggest here? Legally I should depart on 125.3 than within 10nm of tailem VOR switch to 116.6 than 2 nm later switch to Brooklands 126.7 ..

And what I do now! Just fly the nieuport with no radio and avoid the confusion!( tongue in Cheak comment only)lol. Honestly I have been announcing my intensions firstly on area ( legal)than on ctaf than switch back and monitor area frequency whilst local,I Try to cover all bases and stay safe. But now I'm flying local on area frequency ,I know damn well that the more common RAA planes could fly over anytime heading for lamaroo and will be on ctaf as they always are( lamaroo 30 nm west) so I just hope every one will oblige and be on area frequency. Not just the big boys! See and be seen comes to mind here! Strobe lights on- check
