    Am I missing something?

Dont know how the top bit transferred.

I just checked the price of  1 pk Wacker P12 Thermal Paste , delivered Australia, NSW - Eu 101.60 becomes $166.05 Au

Did you read my post for a recommended alternative, available in Australia from Mektronic $65.15 (delivered AU) https://mektronics.com.au/products/mg-chemicals-heat-transfer-compound-silicone-150

hwy Skippy let us all known when you plan to land at any drome, give us a heads up so we know where to look for you in the circuit😉😂

Yeah! - I felt pretty stupid. Will do better next time😈

    More like 30-40 knots

  4. FYI - Probably repeating what the Guru's have already said. Just got off the phone with a very helpful (Trig) tech person.

    • Yes my transponder can be enhanced, to ADSB -OUT, by purchasing/installing an additional (GPS) module and getting it certified - estimated cost $3k +/-,  part of which I can claim back.
    • Yes!  I can have get IN, if I purchase another module $?- no $ claim back
    • OR I may be able to purchase a single  IN/OUT module, at a lot more expense  $? and get some refund from the Gov.
    • My current Mod S meets all the requirements for entering CTA
    • He also advised that IN/OUT is nice to have but of questionable cost effectiveness for the type of flying I do

  5. I clearly did not understand the equipment requirements for ADSB OUT as in OUT/IN.

As for my ADSB-Mode S working - I have frequently heard ATC warn IFR traffic of my presence - I don't think they could be doing this if my transponder was not operating.

Will see if the foil hat idea works.

Skippy, sorry if I'm missunderstanding but if you are saying you unsure if you have ADSB enabled

1.take plane outside turn on transponder and gps reciever you have fitted. wait a few minutes or untill you get a good fix.

    2. wheel plane back inside and close the doors (dont turn anything off)

If you have a gps connected  and set up with your Trig then after a short time the display will tell you that you have lost ADSB function

Though tbh iyou do have it set up already you probably would have seen this message before at some point

Until I made a very pleasant trip to Cowra, I had assumed that my ADSB Mode S transponder was transmitting  "OUT" when it seems it was only transmitting (no OUT) ie I did not understand the significance/requirements for "OUT".

I am fairly sure that ATC  "sees" my ADSB transmissions.

Unfortunatly I have no access to a shed/hanger, either to remove my aircraft from or return it to, with Transponder on.

Does your set up have an external GPS connected; Trig produce such a certified unit (less than $900AUD).  It's required to like guarantee the location of your aircraft.  The professional person who signed off setting your HEX code should be able to answer your questions.

To the best of my (limited) knowledge there is no dedicated GPS for my Trig transponder - have two other GPS antenna  (not counting hand held) Dynon & iPad.

Assuming existing installation is working (as expected) it already gives - ID, location, hight, speed(?)

  8. Thanks all.

    Some thoughts on the matter:

This is a very recent installation - only just passed 100 hrs. Commissioned in early 2022

Transponder professionally checked out, certified & issued with Hexadecimal code.

Transponder not required unless entering controlled airspace ( very very infrequent)  however I feel that it adds to security in congested environment like Sydney Basin.

Asides from exorbitant cost, have, to date, been happy with system. Assumed all well and that ATC able to "see" me with all necessary information being relayed (so far no indication to contaray).

Often hear ATC warning other (IFR) aircraft of my presence - system seems to work.

Flight to/from Cowra raised question - on arrival Cowra, told that transponder signal not being picked up by phone/flight not being tracked.

Further conversation added to my confusion - I assumed that my Trig was delivering "Out" signal - apparently this is/may not be the case (still confused).

Told that a relativly cheap, non fixed, electronic gizmo ("Dongle"?) may deliver IN/OUT  transmission with display of IN (other aircraft location) may be available in OzRunways on iPad????

Asides from the added safety of being able to see more airaft on OzRunways (than current blue bubbles) not at all sure of need to have enhanced transponder.

  9. My last aircraft had a nice homemade job (just for the cockpit).

New plane has an at home, all over job and a separate, lightweight reflective canopy only,  for away trips. Both by Punkin head.  Photo of Mk1 away cover - needed fixing/adjustment,  which they did.

Red said "You simply need to connect any GPS Source that has NMEA out capability to the XPDR, its one wire and a ground"

NO ! You must use a TSO certified GPS. You are not permitted to use "Any GPS"

    Burnie's post is correct"https://www.recreationalflying.com/forums/topic/39965-transponder-adsb/?do=findComment&comment=568941&_rid=11148"

AND - the location of the GPS antenna must fall inside zones spelt out in on of the advisory circulars.

basically between the cabin and the tail fin.

    Hi RF,

I have Dynon Skyview system/GPS and GPS enhanced Ipad/OzRunways. Antenna for both on glare shield. Transponder, blade type, antenna mounted below cockpit. Any of these contenders for ADSB-S Out?

  11. Thanks RossK,

"1090ES ADS-B Out capable"  - so the word "capable" does not mean  that Out is activated?

From the pdf you kindly supplied-

"The 1090MHz system is a simple one-way transmission of data from the aircraft (ADS-B OUT) to ground stations, which simply listen to transmissions and forward them to ATC systems."

My understanding - My Trig is broadcasting Out?

  12. I am hoping that a knowledgeable person can explain to me the following (in simple terms):

I have a Trig TT22 transponder - in my ignorance I understood it to be ADS -B  Out. Seems I am mistaken about the Out part.

The specifications for my Trig say "1090ES ADS-B Out capable" - does this mean that something need to be added/enabled, to have Out?

  13. Great flight - The Oaks to Cowra yesterday.

A little choppy /turbulent on the way there at 4500 ft but tolerable.

Cowra extraordinarily busy with training, Ag & helicopter movements.

Despite highlighting right circuit for runway 15 on my ERSA printout, I managed to do a left - apologies to all.

Return flight via Lithgow & Warragamba was spectacular - smooth as silk at 9500 ft for a ground speed 168 knots (indicated 124 Kn)

My thanks to Stuart for a friendly welcome & chat.

  14. Sorry about the mussels (muzzles😁) - the combination of dyslexia/auto spell and passion sometimes gets the better of me.

Still mussels are full of all sorts of good nutrition with which to build the energy to fight the good fight
