  1. If you use an external GPS it uses less power. I also bought a fireproof lipo bag from hobby king for emergencies. Search results for: 'battery bag'
  2. Pretty sure they can fly solo but once you have your RA certificate you can't fly in Class D. Exemption only allows training.
  3. Flyabout ..:FLYABOUT:.. I bought the video but haven't watched it yet. Thanks for reminding me.
  4. I think there is one at Wedderburn.
  5. I personally do the trim afterwards but looks like it's missing off the list
  6. I don't fly enough so I use check lists. I wrote my own database after having played with others on the iPad and preferred mine. This is using FileMaker and runs on the iPad. I probably went over the top with the info there but I was on a roll.
  7. I hope they have something planned for the second Sydney airport. I mean major airport, not many other ones left anyway.
  8. A great read is "Into the Black" by Rowland White. Talks about the design and the first flight.
  9. If my battery is low and I have turned on everything (I have a Dynon sky view as well), idling can cause my radio to be incoherent on transmit so I turn off the transponder and what ever I can or I guess which I haven't tried, rev the engine a bit.
  10. Nothing sudden, we monitored the situation and had a cut off if things got worse. To me the engine was sounding perfect, even when I did my BFR the instructor liked the sound, maybe too used to a 4 cylinder. About 3 cylinder heads were seaping oil after 25 hours and this was happening but there was a lot of oil the last 25 hourly.
  11. The engine ran hot and couldn't get much help from my lame. It wasn't till I found someone else that I got a solution but it was already on a downhill path. He put a larger jet to richen the mixture, filed down the baffles a fraction to improve airflow and voila, the temps dropped 50C or more. Unfortunately the heads are warped and leaking oil and I could get a rebuild but the estimate for that from Jabiru is quit high for a low hours engine. It's an early hydraulic lifter, I ran the engine according to the POH and it is my first plane so a lot of learning in the process.
  12. You just put a vision in my head of a rotec in a Jabiru, what a sight. I got 250 hours out of my jab 6. That's why the last week has been interesting because I need a replacement and went to OzKosh with that in mind.
  13. Does anyone know of an alternative to the 6 cylinder? I had a look at UL which looks good though expensive.
  14. I'm at a loss. My 3300 only lasted 250 hours. I went to Ozkosh to see what's happening before I made the decision of which way to go. the Camit was looking preferable but wasn't 100% keen on converting my plane to a 24E.If I can believe Jabiru, I would wait till the new engine comes out but it's like Microsoft, this is the best product we've released but...
  15. Was considering buying one this week.

  17. Someone posted this document once. I can't remember where I got it from or who... So you want to form a syndicate.pdf So you want to form a syndicate.pdf So you want to form a syndicate.pdf
  18. I haven't read the book but sounds like something similar to the book 30 Seconds to Impact. That was a good read.
  19. When they do these tests, wouldn't it be better if they tested the pilots in a plane they are familiar with? I noticed it was a twin and I guess it depends on the panel you are used to as well.
  20. Britain's Ultimate Pilots:Inside The RAF
  21. I've got an old CD in mine for reflecting
  22. I fly the j230 and doing an emergency landing with an instructor for a biannual I missed turning off the carb heat, I took off but the climb rate wasn't good and I caught it quickly. No significant danger but full power is different than run up power.
  23. Be careful of brand new plastic since I had a lot of debris from the cans on first fill
  24. Since it's wifi you don't need it in the front of the plane.
  25. I think Mudge is starting to get strict about wearing the card. There have been notices sent around. I haven't had one for a few years but decided to since Wagga is a nice stop from here and I go to Mudgee a lot. From memory, not many fences surrounding the entire perimeter of many airports.
