  1. Hi Phil l have finished make all the parts for my fire wall and nose gear and have started to rivet it all back together , will send pics when that part is done . l have imported my new control cables and swages l am using 7x19x 1/8 stainless steel cable . l have stripped all the paint from the 701 using citrastrip it is biodegradable and 3800 psi pressure washer worked well mine had been painted using house paint with a hardener . DONT sand aluminum you will encourage corrosion destroy the protective coating on the 6061 . when you get time could you take some pics of the Tyros engine free air cowling that l made a friend would like to copy it been along time since l did that . cheers Geoff
  2. Hi JimG go Zenith CH-701 Thread post #32 there is a photo of my old Tyro with a free air 503 l will see if Phil will take some pics of the air duct l made for it year ago worked good. cheers Geoff.
  3. Hi yes zenith have all parts needed but l make most of the parts myself because its all aluminum aircraft its easy to fabricate parts, sourcing the quantity of aluminum is the hard part because you only need small amounts
  4. Hi Eightknots that post was five months ago l have got my 701 and stripped it down the only way to find out the question is to do it myself. cheers
  5. Hi Phil mine is coming along slowly l am waiting for some rivets from Zenair and some other parts then l can start to assemble the fire wall. l have made doubles to put in behind where the main spring and strut attachment brackets are it is very weak in that area it does most of the work . Have you put a shim under the rudder hing bracket ,did you measure the rear of the fus or is it the bracket on the rudder itself it maybe on an angle. Is the thimble on the cable hard up against the swag on the bottom looks like it in the pic needs to have movement, are they gal or stainless cables l am replacing all of mine l make them up myself l like to use stainless cable . the swag looks alright like to swag the center of the swag to make sure l have the best grip we took some swages a few years ago to Morrabin airport for testing on there machine the cable broke and my sway stay perfect so l have done them the same way ever since. l will send some pics of my updates shortly. cheers Geoff..
  6. Hi it was a Skyfox gazelle
  7. Come on Met and l thought you where going to be my crash test dummy. cheers Geoff
  8. Hi Mat are you taking about where the hole is, that's where they put the battery it was 8.5 kg had no extra support it has bent the doubles l am going to replace them l am in the process of straightening the fus it is not square the whole aircraft has been out of square some sections have been loaded up the rear of the cargo area has split, it was in tension it must have been flexing on the ground and in flight causing the tear it was hidden by the carpet . cheers Geoff.
  9. Hi Phil thank also for the pics l have some from in side the fus for you they are different how people construct of the plans The Tyro looks a bit different than when l built it pod has change color different wind screen l built of plans 12 years ago does it still have the same 503 motor . cheers Geoff
  10. Hi Phil l got a new bungee from zenair it is small than the one that was on it l was the same couldn't get enough tension so l made a new center section move the pin with the new bungee l had to use a breaker bar to lever it on should be plenty of tension now just hope its not to much here are some pics so far not quiet finished yet still some cleaning and filing to do but nearly there. cheers Geoff.
  11. Hi Phil l got the VGs from zenair it has taken me nearly a month to completely rebuild my front end l have modified it, it will be strong now l have made it out of stainless steel, l have a 750 nose leg l have braced it up to give it strength and have nylon bushing top and bottom and on the steering rods slides. l am going to try and stop some of the oil caning but it is awkward to get in the back of the fuselage . Is there a orange Tyro at Portland still ,l sold mine that l built years ago a police officer with one eye bought from me . cheers Geoff.
  12. Thanks Eightknots l have read that information quiet a few times and articles like that made it hard for me to make up my mind so l will test it out then see whether l keep them or not . cheers Geoff.
  13. Hi Phil that is the plane l bought the owner was playing around with vertex generators when that happened this aircraft has had a lot of hard landings that's why l have stripped it down completely l am just finishing off a new fire wall it was bent and split replaced the main spring, wheels and nose leg l am putting in wing tanks l got rid of the 40lt fuel tank sitting over my lap l am not keen with fuel in the cabin. l am changing the wing struts with airfoil type of a savannah this 701 used to drop the right wing severely in the stall ,this 701 has done 351hrs it is the original 701 that was first designed for the 503 or 532 it has a 912ul in it now. cheers Geoff. ps are you far from gippsland .
  14. Hi Phil my 701 l purchased has had the slat taken off and the brackets cut off also. l am going to put them on l have spoken to Zenair about them and they say if l want a real stol aircraft put them on you loose a bit of cruise speed , l have put the new aluminum VGs on the elevator to get better control a slower speeds l will see how the slats go then l will make my decision whether to keep them or not. cheers Geoff.
  15. l wanted to fly my drifter from the back so l could fly in the rain but l couldn't reach the on switch.
  16. Most aircraft have the flight instruments on the left and engine gauges on the right visually it would be better on the left.
  17. Hi Laurie yes still same place Davids 701 does need some tlc its been sitting for a long time completely striped it down doing some mods and updating. Come for a visit one day, what are you flying these days don't see you much flying over. cheers Geoff.
  18. Hi the cable braced drifter is stronger than a strut braced version .
  19. Hi Derekliston let us know when you get to fly one , l am putting Savannah wing tanks in mine and a savannah header tank see if you can find a savannah they are similar to the 701 you might get some ideas of fuel system there are more savannahs out there than 701s. cheers Geoff.
  20. l think that this is the biggest load of crap l have ever heard you haven't broken any flight rules or regulations so how or who the f***** can stop you from flying or doing your BFR how can you bring the RAA in disrepute when they have done it themselves this why l will NEVER vote or get caught up in all the bullshit that goes with the RAA and all the bureaucratic rubbish . So Ian just go and do you flight reveiw and go flying enjoy your self. cheers Geoff.
  21. Takes me three minutes to get to my hanger and strip it is on my neighbors property.
  22. Hi l am also doing a full rebuild on a 701 it was built in 98 well that was when it was finished not sure when it was started it is the early 701 so l all so was hoping the plans had changed but most of it is still the same l have had to beef up the fire wall and nose wheel assembly as it was quite damaged and change the main spring to the latest version put more ribs in the fuselage to stop it tin canning get rid of the fuel tank over my knees installing wing tanks list goes on but it should be a good project.20 years is a long time for a build hope mine doesn't take that long keep plodding along Derek . cheers Geoff.
  23. Hi Pete how much do you want for the hirth. cheers Geoff.
  24. Will do Alan this has been twenty years in the making.
  25. It will be good to meet up with you there is about eight of us in this area that fly ultralights. Also Dave the Labertouche strip has been developed with poultry farm it is no longer there. cheers Geoff.
