I'VE HAD ENOUGH!!!!
Putting sh|t on Australian companies like Jabiru is the bloody reason every consumer product we buy in Australia is made overseas, and our own people are scratching around for work.
Jabiru might not be the best engine manufacturer in the world, but I can take you to a cairn at Camden Airport that is a memorial to a group of people who lost their lives because a big American aero engine manufacturer failed to pass on critical engine build specification to the aviation world.
If you hate Jabirus, please, for the sake of Australia's future economic sovereignty, refrain from puttin sh|t on them.

PS: ASMOL is the commercial name for a brand of asthma control drug. So I suppose you could say that the person on this forum using that screen name is a whinging wheezer - OME

Was he going to a maintenance facility to get his wing attach bolts replaced? Not a soft landing, a lot of downward force to collapse that wing.

Quite so, but you can't blame me for employing a journalistic trick of the trade. For clarity -The heading of this post has it wrong - there is no airbases closing, it is child care places closing because of the noise.OME

Six kids in a backyard making a bit of noise? You whuz. Try driving a bus-load of Primary School children across the city! And if I hear anyone singing, "The wheels on the bus ...", they're off!The article is saying they are closing child care centres because of the risk of hearing damage to the kids from the jets. After having a BBQ with 6 screaming kids running round, and comparing that to a twin jet taxing past about 20 meters away - the pain threshold was about the same :)OME

Here are some old cinema ads for Aeroplane Jelly featuring Bertie:
http://aso.gov.au/titles/ads/aeroplane-jelly-bertie/clip1/
http://www.aeroplanejelly.com.au/About/Advertising/Bertie-the-Jet-Cinema-Advertisement-1950s.aspx
http://alldownunder.com/australian-food/aeroplane-jelly.htm
My memory failed me when I said that Bertie's appearance was influenced by the Aeronca C3. He is a bit different, but to audiences of the day, all small planes looked the same, a condition well-known to news reporters nowadays who think every light plane is a Cessna!
Bertie the Jet was produced in the 1950's. Can you identify the airplane that he is based on? Hint: The RAAF accepted the type in 1952 and used it operationally well into the end of the 1970s.

So who is scoring when the pump price of fuel is, say $1.15 at 7:00am and suddenly is $1.42 at 9:00am? And no fuel tankers have been seen delivering fuel/I think I saw a MTA pamphlet once that showed for every $1 you pay for petrol, the govt gets around 60c and the petrol company makes a profit of around 2c. the rest is oil and refining and transport overhead.OME

Check out Youtube for the title "Flying for Fun" and watch the several parts of the story. Very British, what!
It would be good to get a complete version.

Bad form, Phil!!!!!
You should have a least let us post some guesses before identifying it. Of course, I knew it was an Air Knocker. Buried somewhere amongst my accumulated essential reference material (read: 'junk') I've still got an RC magazine with build plans and another with a history of the airplane.
On close inspection, Australians will recognise the influence this airplane had on the creation of the Aeroplane Jelly character.
I wonder if he calls her Gladys?

The NRL is a nation-wide sport. So what if this year the Grand Finalists are both from the same State? What if the Storm had won? For the New South Wales supporters, the effect would have been the same - no NSW team in the Grand Final.
In my opinion, we are going to see the clash of two forms of Rugby League nest weekend. The Broncos will exhibit their style, which is based on a heavy Forward pack pounding away at their opposing pack, and ending with a movement of the ball out towards the wingers.
The Cowboys, who seem to be slimmer, play a more open style, using the ball and agility to get past the defence. Personally, I like this style a lot as it produces a lot of variation in each set of six, and there are more chances for line breaks. What worries me the most is losing Thurston though injury. I'm not saying to the Broncos, "Go easy on him.", but I have a great fear that he will be hurt by some trivial accident. I hope the team has developed a plan to deal with his loss.
Sadly, though, I have a horrible feeling that the Broncos will win another Premiership. Please prove me wrong, Cowboys!

I apologise to you, Downunder, for any way in which you might have been offended, but I stand by the inference of my comment.I thought there was personal abuse rules? If a person puts an allegation before a jury of the person's peers, then they must expect to obtain a verdict. We have listened to the Plaintiff, and the reply of the Defendant. All I have done, albiet rather more forcefully than some think appropriate, is to state my verdict in favour of the Defendant. I took the opportunity to express my suggestion for the manner in which Costs should be borne by the Plaintiff.

Hugh,I bought/paid for two recreational headsets $281 on 30th August. Headsets not forthcoming and lady informed me "no stock maybe more coming November/December"?? She suggested and I agreed to a refund.... refund not forthcoming either and same lady hung up saying "Wrong number" when I tried calling this evening. Whats going on??As recompense for the despicable treatment handed out to you by a woman on the phone, I'd like to offer you a fully paid sex tour - fvck off!

I love English place names - Ballsover. Here it's Headover.
It's interesting that Balsover is not far from Cannock, as the Aussie drives.
You ought to move to Nobottle in Northants.

Remember the 3 + 3 fuel levy that was applied to fuel in New South Wales years ago? It was a three cent levy which was to be applied for three years and the revenue was for road works. I'm sure that it was never revoked and I can't think of how long ago that was because since then I've developed Old Timers' Disease.

I don't disagree with Nobody's comment. It's just a matter of spending a few dollars more for some extra protection.
What annoys me is that there has been no publication of pictures of the failed bolt, or of the area where it was working to fasten parts together. Given the number of these bolts which are currently in service doing this job, I wonder why only one has been reported as failing.

That was a brilliant game of Rugby League played be two very equal teams. The Broncos have no cause to hang their heads. I felt sure that the Broncos had it at the last play, but the RL gods definitely smiled on the Cowboys' side. Great credit to both teams.
