It's going to be a good while before Old Ma Emu will be back to running the pants off kangaroos, but at least she only has to worry about getting the incisions healed. She was quite terrified that she might become the victim of the Bengal Lancer.

I agree that working with wood is a pleasure, but working with a material that has uniform properties should make for a product whose quality is more predictable.
Apart from workability, I was interested in how the use of aluminium in place of wood for the fuselage frame would aid in reducing the dead weight of the airframe. Die Number UA8881 is a 25.4 mm square aluminium with 1.2 mm thick walls and weighing 0.301 Kg/m. How does that weight compare to a metre of wood typically used in an wooden airframe?
If I was joining wooden components using glues, I certainly would not contemplate using a glue that was seventy or more years behind current adhesive technology.

Seeing Betterbex's advertisement: Aluminium Frames | Recreational Flying got me wondering if, when building a wooden framed aircraft, would it be possible to substitute the wood with aluminium square tube.
Morgan aircraft seem to have sufficient strength when made from tubing. I wonder if their might be a weight advantage in using metal as opposed to wood. Also, aluminium square tube might be easier to obtain here than spruce etc.

I got a great gift this Christmas. Since my wife is just out of hospital, I was able to enforce a ban on her entering the kitchen. I got to make Christmas dinner without having her telling me that I was doing things wrong.
As a result, I roasted the pork and made excellent crackling; the turkey breast was cooked completely; the Yorkshire puddings were high, light and fluffy; and the roast vegetables were spot on. And everything finished cooking at the same time.
The best part of it all was that for the first time since I don't know when, the wife wasn't in a frazzle when we sat down to eat. Although the meal wasn't anything exotic, I could see that she really enjoyed it. It's great to make your beloved happy!
It's too bad that we stuffed ourselves on the roast meal and did not have room for desert. My big surprise desert was Broken Glass jelly.
Tonight I want to sit down with Old Ma Emu and have a serving of Christmas pudding (store bought) and a sip of old port.
Best Christmas present she's given me in years.

Early in my experience with 3D printers, I came to the conclusion that 3D printing is best suited to prototyping components to test for assembly problems and accuracy of the CAD drawings. Once the part has been proved with a 3D printed version, the CAD drawing can be run through G-code generating software so the part can be made from the most suitable material by CNC machining.

Interrresting. What size print plate?

Oh! I got a Canon on HP

What brand of printer are you using?

Do you have automatic bed leveling on the bed? If so, is the testing sequence built in to your G-code?

Great news!!!!!

The surgeon initially told Old Ma Emu that he was sure that he had identified and removed all the cancerous material, but was awaiting the pathology results to give a more certain report. The pathology results show that the cancer was localised and had not escaped from the site. As with all types of cancer, regular check-ups are required to ensure that there is not another site developing, but the likelihood is minimal. So I'm off to the hospital to bring her home where she can resume her regal duty, ruling the roost.
Thanks to you all for your kind thoughts and well wishes. Old Ma Emu doesn't read what is posted on this site, so she doesn't know any of you, but when I told her what you have said, she bucked up a bit. It has been a trying time for me as any of you would know how painful it is if you see your Beloved in pain. The pain of the cancer is gone; the discomfort of healing can be borne, and our family will celebrate the Solstice* with great joy.

There's supposed to be a new airport being built in western Sydney, and as yet there are no takers for operating it.

Old Ma Emu told me to pass on her appreciation for everyone's kind thoughts and comments.
However, she didn't realise that the news of her hospitalisation would be known from Cannock to Cessnock.

Thanks HITC.
She's getting better every day. It looks like the wound is healing quickly, despite her having Type II diabetes. It is going to take about 3 months for the area to be repaired back to its former strength - bit like a broken arm healing. But at least she'll be at home for Christmas, not too mobile, but in a position to give me orders as usual. I wouldn't say we were Love Birds, but I'm missing her presence. The best thing for me is that she's not in chronic pain anymore. Nothing worse than seeing your loved one crying in pain every time they move.
She appreciates everyone's kind wishes. I told her that there are benefits being logged in here, and not just the hours spent talking crap around the world.

Thanks for your good wishes.
Unfortunately, we don't have an ever growing crowd. This year it's Ma and I, our son and our grandson. And we only have the grandson for half of Christmas Day and until late Boxing Day afternoon.
On a brighter side, she was much better today when I visited. All the drain tubes have been removed and she can get out of bed for short walks. She looks healthier in skin colour, and her sense of humour has returned, although she did get a bit teary when I gave her the decoration.

There are several possible answers:SO: can anyone answer me this: why does it seem that so many Australians want to tear down Jabiru, when no other company world-wide can match its basically good features?- A severe case of Tallpoppyitis.
- No politician has a grubby finger in the company, so there is no chance that the company will receive R&D support money, operating grants or export assistance.
- Private aviation of the type that a Jabiru fulfills requires allocation of infrastructure which could otherwise be converted for short term financial gain by organisations and individuals who are prepared to fill the coffers of political parties and members of the politician class.

My dear wife, Old Ma Emu, underwent some radical surgery this week. It went well, but the healing period for the wound will be long. At the moment she has to remain flat on her back, and even as she heals she won't be able to sit on her backside.
At this time of year, occupying a hospital bed, and looking at the possibility of being there over Christmas is not a pleasant situation to be in. So I thought I would make a little decoration to stick up over her bed.

Heck! It's seven years tomorrow since you kicked this off. Definitely not shortcuts taken with this build.
It's good to see that you have kept on going. I remember how enthused you were at the beginning. I'm of a mind to start trying to whip off the weight so I can fit into that front seat for a good fly around.
As the actress said to the bishop, "Keep it up". And don't forget to build yourself a fancy mantelpiece so you can line up all those "Best in Show" trophies it is bound to win.

Hard to say, but I think you'll be right for coal through next Winter.I can imagine what some of the guys are going to say about this. . .'Look what that ugly Git Perry has stirred up now. . .' Wonder how many Christmas cards I'll get this time. . .>-

This donation is very, very interesting:
Clamback and Hennessy Aviation ($20,000) For exemplary services to the aviation training industry while being opposed by formidable forces.
Clamback and Hennesy, based at Bankstown Airport, is one of the very many long-established flight training organisations that were adversely impacted by the takeover of Bankstown Airport by the Sydney Metro Airports consortium.C & H was involved in extensive litigation because when SMA bought the leases for Bankstown, Hoxton Park and Camden, SMA said that all prior leases between tenants and the Commonwealth Government were terminated and tenants had to enter into new leases with the respective head lease holder (in the case of BK, it is Bankstown Airports Ltd). The new leases dramatically increased the rents for the land upon which the buildings erected by the tenants while under Commonwealth lease. Further conditions of the lease meant that at the expiry of a lease, the buildings erected at the expense of the tenants reverted to the ownership of BAL. Since the value of the buildings, and goodwill of their businesses represented the superannuation investment of these tenants, the lease conditions effectively pointed the tenants to to a life of penury in retirement.
C & H continue to operate at BK, but like many other long time tenants, they are locked into leases with onerous conditions and exorbitant rents. That is one of the main reasons that all GA operations are so expensive compared to costs overseas, and why so many aviation-orientated young people have given up hope of either a career in aviation (in the air or on the ground), or of using aviation as a recreation.
