  1. I will plug in the carb balancer for pneumatic balancing AFTER run in . The mechanical balance is done . I'm hoping 1 carbie in the old eng was just set wrong .

Mate i'd just ignore what was in your old carbs and just go by the book.012_thumb_up.gif.cb3bc51429685855e5e23c55d661406e.gif

I went through the 582 in my Xair when i bought it and there were two different main jets and the clip positions weren't the same,i think people start chasing their EGT gauges in 2 strokes when they should be reading their plugs ...... that's how stories about burning holes in pistons start:smile:

  2. Will confirm with wal at bert flood tomorrow before break- in takes place. My problem is not the jets! There fine and match my old 582 . Problem is for my light wing I would like to have the idle mixture set the same as it was as the old eng ran 517 hr no probs. but as mentioned they are set different on old carbies ? It would be nice to have it set up the same as I know egt temps were good.

Tim, all the info you need to set your engine up by the book is in that link ie clip position is the 3rd one from the top and airscrew is is wound out one turn , then set your prop pitch to load your engine to 6300rpm static (max torque ) and it should be sweet .

  3. Anyone know the "clean" stall speed?

    Bob,

i have a set of W10 plans which state stalling speed with flaps 43kts and stall speed without flaps 49kts @ gross of 646kg (1425lb)

I was looking over a Tailwind this morning which is a regular visitor from Montpelier, beautiful aircraft i love them a bit heavy for RAA though.

Its little sister the Wittman Buttercup would be a perfect fit for RAA http://luceair.com/replica_buttercup.html

  4. Oooh i don't know fellas i can see FD's point i don't think he is criticizing the Jab pilot for doing a go around but for taking so long to initiate it.

The Jab has flown all of final watching a Trojan slowly backtracking towards him. Wouldn't it be better airmanship to initiate a go around sooner rather than later and get a call out in what i would assume to be a busy circuit at an airshow rather than getting his panties up in a bunch and buzzing the Trojan at 50ft?042_hide.gif.f5e8fb1d85d95ffa63d9b5a325bf422e.gif

  5. Hi all,I have been trying to help a fellow flyer with a VW engine. I am having trouble getting the baby to start. Looking for ideas or advice.

    It's a VW aero conversions.

Magneto ignition that has been re-timed. It's a Bendix dual mag D4RN 2021. Has been timed to the K mark and E gap at R which I think is 8 deg BTDC. It has an impulse system to delay 20 Deg to assist with starting.

When I check timing on the engine I can adjust it to open points at 8 Degrees BTDC. However the motor will not start. I get the occasional fire but just wont turn over.

Any ideas? Does the timing sound correct? Any advice from some that have experience with the VW's or Magneto would be greatly appreciated.

    Jim Tatlock.

If you have know luck Jim try this Yahoo group they may be able to help.
