  1. Not all the way. I flew it to Jabiru in Bundaberg then containerised it for the rest of the journey. I had a plan to fly it across the ditch via Lord Howe and Norfolk islands (normal light aircraft route) however the CASA requirements re RAAus registered aircraft buggered that up. I'll touch base next time I'm travelling through Cue. I have explored around the Nullagine/Marble Bar area. Great history there. All the best with the prospecting. Kev
  2. Love following your adventures MB. I had my Jabiru at Northam for a while and just drove the 12 hrs down from Newman every few weeks to keep current. Had it in Newman for a while after that, then Geraldton before pointing the nose east towards the shaky isles aka Land of the Long White Cloud. I'm in the Pilbara every three months or so and sometimes I'll drive up the Great Northern. Be good to catch up and say gidday at some stage.
  3. I was staying next to the Purple Pub when it happened. The pub has a painted mural depicting the aircraft on it now. At the time I had no idea I would own a Jabiru J230 based at Newman c 2020 It kept me sane during the Covid era. It is now based here in NZ. Another Newman recreational aviation identity passed away recently. Bill Kirwan flew out of the now closed 'Cappy' airfield just south of the current airport in the 2000's in what I think was a Savannah. A real character that I met in 2008. RIP Bill.

  5. Quite responsive and fun to fly. Climbing turn stalls can be very interesting as can be power on, flaps down stalls. I don't have much in the way of tail wheel time so its been a learning curve. Certainly makes one use the lower extremities a bit more.
  6. In an attempt to get this interesting thread going again, I have recently done a rating on a Chipmunk here in NZ. It is the actual aircraft that Prince Philip first flew in. Can anyone see what I missed on my first preflight?
  7. Woodbourne/Omaka is pretty much as you have described it KG however they have added a transit lane to the east and south so you don't need a clearance. Comms are still all on the same frequency and it works well.
  8. Very sad news out of NZ. Still waiting on details re aircraft type etc however it is in the vicinity of a mountain valley airstrip. Thoughts are with the families and friends. https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/one-person-killed-another-critically-hurt-in-central-otago-plane-crash/YUNO5GKQT5G7PKHQ7ACHW257NA/

  9. We were going to do another Oshkosh pilgrimage in 2026. That's not happening now. Instead we will go and enjoy everything aviation in the UK.
  10. Another beautiful weekend in the eastern isles. Headed to one of my favourite strips for an overnight hunting trip in the J230 ute. The dog is getting used to flying finally. D'Urville Island is the largest island in the Marlborough Sounds. Once again Wellington Approach very helpful with radar monitoring across the Strait. Its always reassuring knowing someone is keeping an eye on you in a single engine over water.
  11. I'll be making to effort to attend a Jabiru course from NZ. I would have booked into the first one however have prior commitments. Looking forward to the next dates.
  12. I think you have a pathway for this. As far as I know RAAus doesn’t have a monopoly on Part 149? Happy to be corrected on this.
  13. Great news. We have had this in NZ for a long time. Now its up to all pilots to ensure that they are up to the job and demonstrate that they can be as professional as the next pilot regardless of licence type.
  14. This is a very informative publication with some great ideas for 'mooring' your aircraft to mother earth https://www.aviation.govt.nz/assets/publications/gaps/secure-your-aircraft.pdf I had my Jabiru 230 tied down in Newman just up the road from you one winter. I used the Claw tiedown system. In the summer I stored it in a hanger in Geraldton as there was no way I was having it outside in wet season. You should seriously consider some sort of hanger. The container shelters are cyclone rated and cost effective. I would have permanent tie downs as well in them.
  15. Long shot. Is anyone aware of any ZK registered aircraft currently in Western Australia? TIA
