Thanks for that. I have been told by some people that they land the J230 with zero flap or half flap. However, most people have told me to use some power during the flare.

Yes,I agree. I have always used a trickle of power in landing with GA aircraft and have managed to do consistently good landings. However, some have been more firm than others. I watched this video by Ian Mcdonald from Gawler and he teaches some power throughout the flare. A glide approach has not worked for me.

I have been flying GA for fifty years mainly light twins and heavy singles. When I land the Piper lance I normally hold a trickle of power until the wheels touch and I make consistently good landings. I am looking at buying a Jabiru 230 and before buying decided to do a few circuits with an instructor. He told me not to use a trickle of power during the flare but to power off completely before the flare. When I did this the aircraft sank rapidly and all my landings were hard and inconsistent. In the past I have always carried a trickle of power through the flare and had no problems. I have been told so many different things I am not sure what is the correct method. Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok, Thanks for that. So, in your opinion would it be better to leave the tanks full to eliminate the amount of air in the tanks?

With mogas or avpulp on gen 4Jabiru engine is it necessary to drain the tanks if the aircraft is unused for more than a month?

I don't own a Jabiru 230 but I am in the process of buying one. I had heard from a lot of people to add some ballast to the baggage area to bring the C of G more aft.

Thanks guys for your input. Yes, a lot of people have said that some ballast in the rear helps. If the aircraft is still within the envelope it cant do any harm.

I have been told to add some weight into the baggage compartment with the 230 to give more elevator range when landing. Has anyone had any experience with this.

What do I need to study to pass the converting pilots exam apart from the Flight Operations Manual?

Thanks for your replies. That is what I thought but an instructor told me yesterday that I had to do 15 hours and navigation training. Is there any exam required or just flying?

I have PPL with 3000 hours and an Instrument rating. I want to obtain a RaAus certificate so I can purchase my own aircraft.. I understand the process is fairly simple but I have had conflicting advice. Has anyone had any experience with this conversion and what is involved?

I will do that. I have been flying a Lance for 20 years and I fly into LTV often. However, I wont have access to that aircraft soon and that's why I am looking around to buy Jabiru. I really like LTV and the aero club. I used to live in Morwell and I did my first joy flight out of there 60 years ago.
