  1. actually occurred to me later, Bf109F initial version had a 15mm version of the MK151 20mm cannon firing through airscrew, not the MG131 13mm as I set out above..German pilots complained the 15mm plus 2x 7.92s on front deck (no wing guns) was not enough hitting power, and the 15mm was upped to the 20mm model of same gun.....which was version that Joachim Marseilles savaged Desert Air Force with..
  2. I'd have liked to have seen mentioned the East Africa sideshow campaign vs Italians , Battles, flying side by side the oddball Vickers Wellesleys..I've seen a South African AF Battle East Africa campaign aircraft depicted in one of my books.Odd style tailfin flash..great modelling example..
  3. Quote The British were content to fit a couple of .303 MG's to aircraft, while the German aircraft carried .50 cal and 20mm cannon. actually half-inch grade MGs were unusual/rare on German types as at 1940 Blitzkrieg /Battle of Britain era...the then-current Bf109E-model itself carried, sure, 2X20mm shortened Oerlikon style guns in wings , (which had their own shortcomings btw..not as good as the Mauser MK151 20mm they came out with a year or so later) and......... 2 rifle-calibre 7.92mm in cowling. the closest I can think of is the MG131 13mm, slightly larger than .50-bore..it came in in the initial model F-update Bf109 firing through prop, with, once more two rifle-bore 7.92s above it...then later with the FW190As tasked with tackling the 8thAF 4-motor raids, they raised the --once more two rifle-callibre 7.92s on front deck of FW190, to the 13mm guns for extra bomber-destroyer firepower..but, yeah, not much Luftwaffe stuff was actually not using either or both 7.92mm and/or 20mm as at 1940.
