danny_galaga Posted 10 hours ago Posted 10 hours ago (edited) As per this thread: https://www.aircraftpilots.com/forums/topic/41882-my-first-dead-stick-landing/#comment-599724 I had an issue with the idle today, where the engine wouldn't go below 3200rpm. Kiwi happened to be at the field (nice to meet you!) and we talked about it. I couldn't see anything loose or jammed in the engine bay. He guided me to the answer. That is, rather than at either end, it's something in between. Sure enough, you can see what happened in the photo. I have no idea why it popped out today, after all this time. But more importantly, I have no idea why I didn't safety wire those two cable ends. Worse, why didn't I pick up on this in the last annual inspection? All other cable ends have been safety wired. Anyway, I've wired them now, so it won't happen again. Edited 10 hours ago by danny_galaga 2 1
danny_galaga Posted 8 hours ago Author Posted 8 hours ago Forgot to describe what we're looking at here! On the Bushcat, you have a throttle on the end of each armrest. It's a quite comfortable, and fairly accurate way to manage the throttle, but bloody hell it's complicated! Each throttle arm has a pulley so that it's a closed loop system. Two cables from each throttle arm go behind the seats and then into a 'mixer' in the centre console, so that moving one throttle moves the other, as well as the carbies of course. The picture is of part of the mixer. I think I would rather have the classic single throttle in the instrument panel, and two control sticks, rather than two throttles and one centre stick. But there's no denying it looks cool 😄 2
