Garfly Posted Tuesday at 12:03 AM Posted Tuesday at 12:03 AM Security screening at Burnie Airport could drive airlines away, airport boss warns - ABC News WWW.ABC.NET.AU Burnie Airport has been told it will need to introduce security screening, but the airport's director says the cost of doing so will make some services commercially unviable and threaten the airport.
Reynard Posted Tuesday at 01:08 AM Posted Tuesday at 01:08 AM I recall Rex having an argument with Qantas on some regional NSW routes. Qantas used larger capacity aircraft which demanded more screening services, which Rex ultimately had to pay for. 2
Thruster88 Posted Tuesday at 03:25 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:25 AM The extra screening is reqired for aircraft with more than 36 seats because terrorists will not fly on those "little" aircraft. Makes perfect sense yes. 1 3 1 1
facthunter Posted Tuesday at 03:31 AM Posted Tuesday at 03:31 AM Small regionals will require a subsidy to Keep Operating. Their seat /Km cost figures are way up on say an A 320. Nev 1

I remember Rex used to be the only airline flying into Broken Hill and they were pricey. Then Qantas also flew there and suddenly both airlines were much cheaper. And Rex was still making profit so what were they making before ? Only reason Rex went broke is because they tried to play with the big boys on the east coast routes. 1 1
