Need to consult with electronics person

Automotive problem . 

 

Way out of my depth  - if there is someone who understands the following specifications,  for a very small speaker/noise maker;

• Is fairly loud (90 dB at 10 cm)

• Works best around 430 Hz

• Should normally be powered at 0.2W, but can handle 0.4W briefly

• Has an impedance of 45 ohms

My problem is that the existing "speaker"  (specifications above) fitted to my car, only delivers a faint auditory indication of direction indicator operation (Clicker). 

I cant hear it when the window is open or the ventilation fan is on.

The problem may be the speaker and /or my age. In the end it doesn't matter - I cant hear the indicator.

I would like to find a speaker that is significantly lauder, that will not upset the cars computer ie will not draw significantly more amps for a higher volume.

The existing speaker is a "UNIQUE" Model  US-3750B  Their range can be found here ; https://unique-sound.co.kr/products/. 

 "Unique Sound Co" is a Chinese company who do not wish to advise me on alternative speakers.

I would be happy to fit a higher performing substitute or piggy back on existing speaker from any supplier.😈

It's a mandatory requirement to provide a light which flashes, which caters for those losing their hearing. Sometimes you have to adapt to the equipment.

Two of these little buzzers should do the trick. Wire one of each in parallel with the quarter-panel-mounted indicator. If you leave the left side one on the left side of your glovebox or that general area, you'll even have a '3D' indication as to what blinker you have selected.

Skippy, the website link you provided is a Korean manufacturer site, not Chinese (and your link doesn't work because you included a full stop in the address). The reason they are refusing to provide any advice on speaker upgrades is because the site is a manufacturer site, and the page is only providing specifications of their products, it's not a "shop" page where you can buy items or get advice. They will only reply to large businesses seeking to order high volumes of their product.

Is the speaker in your VW or Audi? I guess you're looking for an alternative replacement, due to the "European manufacturer tax"? (i.e. - high parts prices).

 

The Chinese are your friend, they can supply the US3750B, plus they can supply a US3750C alternative. Unfortunately they provide no specifications for either buzzer, you will have to email the seller, and ask for the precise electrical specs.

However, if you check the Korean manufacturer site again, the specs are there for the US3750C they manufacture. I would presume the Chinese specs are identical, but it would pay to check.

 

The only problem I see, is the US3750C produces sound at a higher frequency (870Hz VS 430Hz for the US3750B) - and as you age, high frequencies are the ones your aging ears fail to pick up.

 

I'd suggest the major problem with your original buzzer is that it has simply weakened with age, and no longer produces sound levels to the original specifications.

Just like in aircraft applications - keep your eyes OUTSIDE when ever possible. That's why an auditory indicating AND a visual are supplied.😈

While I agree with loud turn indicators because they alert you to any tendency to stay on, here's a resiult despite the very loud Gear Up warning in a 182.

 

 

These two were distracted, note the VERY late turn on to Final, then the immediate need to lose a lot of altitude, and at the same time not registering the loudest warning in the aircraft.

Yes well - nothings perfect and if something can go wrong, a human will find a way to achieve it.

 

Fortnightly leaving my indicators on, way past their intended signal of a maneuver, is not quite in the league as gear up landing.

 

I have discovered my problem with a faint auditory  indicator signal is not unusual - while other have writen about it non seem to have come up with a solution (YET!).

 

Was  a time, not so long ago, when I would just replace the flasher cylinder/cube. Quick, easy, cheap solution made unnecessarily complicated by the vehicles computer management system PROGRESS??????😈
