Mercator is neither conformal or orthomorphic if you want some Big words cartographers use. Tracks drawn on them aren't correct for distance or angle either. Pretty severe short comings for the navigator I would think. It's accurate near the equator. Not so hot anywhere else, especially the poles. Nev
