P-51 Mustang operations on aircraft carriers

From what I've read, a Mustang was fitted with a tail hook for testing, but the high landing speed proved it unsuitable for naval use. The carriers shown with a full deck of Mustangs were transporting them to the war theatres in Europe, loaded by crane.
