The term “situational awareness” originally referred to knowing where one was in space at any particular moment and remaining vigilant when it comes to bumping into things such as other airplanes and mountains. We had one for radio failure - CATCUM - I can remember the acronym after 35 years, but these days, apart from the C for Continue, not what it stood for!

I don't go for acronym's. Learn the basic list and it should make SENSE, not just be a memory item. Situational awareness isn't much about navigation. It's about what you have going for you, ( which encompasses what you DON'T have going for you as well) so you plan optimally how to manage your situation in the most safe manner. Nev

No, when the radio fails it's CACTUS (the radio).
