I was working up there in the late 80's when Charlie hit at Cape Bowling Green just nth of Bowen - we were stuck at the whitsunday sands resort in fibro huts-pretty scary! For everyone in the area we're all just glad there were no human cost reported. I'ts beautiful country which heals and the people are all genuine aussies. So hang in there and think of fine winter days ahead!

Yep, I'm all over it. All the cyclones should be packed up and gone in a week- bring on some stable weather patterns!! Taxiway Charlie camping for me.. 4 days of rec aviation up to my ears please.

Hey guys, sorry been off line today- out of frustration I flew 3 times today all in 25kts plus and rain squalls everywhere- Planned departure to Clifton didn't happen today- I believe it's still on??? Try again tomorrow.. On the Temora front my J120 is the chariot for the trip, 65l gets me Caboolture-Moree- Narromine/Dubbo before the last leg to Temora. I figured your stops would be comfort only!

Hey Tomo, expect to leave Cab around 6am and somewhere between 8-8.30AM in Moree, I'll be going past Gundy en route so we can hook up there as well. I'm planning the same fuel/comfort stops- there will no doubt be a steady stream of a/c as we get further sth- you know Gundy has a funny fuel situation with call out?? I take it you're right to Moree any way.. Tried to get to Gympie today for my instructor test but weather had other idea's- here's crossed for monday! I'll monitor this thread or we can go off line anytime if you want to- I know of another 230 being picked up from Bundy making it's maiden voyage to Natfly same day- i'll keep you in the loop. Managed over 3 hrs yesterday but no xc- did get up to 2500 for some stall brief work so it's not all wet and miserable. It makes the fine days that much sweeter!20kt x-wind was a bonus to get some good one wheel landing practice in too...

Hey Bob, I hear what you're saying-and many owners/operators /pilots who have had EFATO would throw their hands in the air asking the same question. I don't know either. So why do you think the Jabiru engineers put the failure down to pre- detonation. From what you stated in the report it's not that they said the detonation was the root cause- it sounded like thet stated that "incorrect head tension", causing a leak on No3 cylinder causing detonation was the actual cause. The question that needs to be asked then is everyone doing and getting their head tensions right within the required service intervals? What do you reckon?

I watched Mark at Jabiru do mine on Monday and noticed the one little sneaker behind the grub screw. Mark also did a full leak down as well. For me at YCAB it's a no brainer to fly up and have 50hrly's done by the experts. I know this is possible only for a few of the thousand + in service. The bill was reasonable as well- cheaper than a lot of bikes I get serviced! There is clearly a lot of highly experienced but dispersed knowledge within this thread on Jabiru engines and history- and we can all learn lots from it. For my two dollars the guys at the factory see and hear just about all of it and when their spanners are on my engine I fly more relaxed! I copped a lot of friendly jibbing from fellow flying friends and acquaintances before I bought my Jab- and in these early days I can't yet say they are catagorically wrong- but I'm damn sure I'm going to be right on top of professional maintenance with mine, as many (not all) engine problems can be explained by variations to schedule, either inadvertantly or through lack of education/knowledge. On AVGAS, I'm sure everyone has read the bulletin- read between the lines- you fly an aircraft- put aviation fuel in it. I know of 5 people in the last month who have had water contamination with MOGAS in their cars/bikes, some were premium as well! (use Mr Funnel if in a/c). There is also at least one case of an a/c with ethanol damage to wing tanks as well... Now that might stimulate some discussion....

Just had 50hrly(TT) done by Jab on new 2200B(hydraulic) in my J120. All OK - Ts & Ps always in mid green. Normal early oil usage on run in oil but now very minimal (normal). I flew one of the A/C in Q in this thread with no problems and was surprised to hear of stud through bolt failure. I ALWAYS pull through on daily and I understand 15W/50 will be the advised std oil for hydraulic lifter engines( new cowl stickers are being printed. Oil and filter will be changed every 25 hrs with head tensions checked at same interval. This same servicing was performed by LAME on the 120 that was just ferried to NZ in recent JabaChat( I looked at buying it before deciding on new).

My 120 had some pulse spiking that was easily traced to the strobe light. The guys at Jabiru always fit chokes to limit the interference, but Jamie sent me a couple more and whilst not totally fixed, it's a lot better. Fitting the chokes as close as possible to the source of the emf is the go.Hope this helps. A poor earth somewhere can also be the culprit....

I'm just finishing off my instructor rating- the CFI, he was left seat playing student. I'm sure he blames me for his Bose headset not working!!

I had to chuckle the other day- I yell- and I mean yell it, and I looked towards my CFI in the left seat as I did(force of habit). We have a new procedure in our school to keep headsets off until after start up, well did he get it at volume ten- I can hear a workers comp claim coming... lesson for instructors in RH seat- yell away from other pilot!!! I can still see him grimacing.

Anyone interested in heading back near the Evans head area may like to come to this one- you may have seen it on the the GC VTC.Some of the guys from Caboolture, Kilcoy and Boonah are goin to Palmers Island 23 and 24 January for a fly in. Depart Boonah about 8am for the trip and will depart for the return trip 9am sunday. Word is it's only walking distance to food and amenities and the hospitality will be great. Hey Tomo, just like to add my 2 cents to the thread- great photo's and vid and as long as passionate pilots like yourself keep flying our recreation is in great hands. Unreal- you even got a photo of my new Jab (7279)! Theres a fly in at Palmer Is just down the road- 23/24th Jan- some of the flying tigers from Boonah are heading down- may be a good excuse to all meet properly???

Sounds like a great idea- count me in- I'm at the field most weekends and going somewhere so it would be great.A few of the Cab Aero club members have been doing the Dunwich Sunday breakfast but, Boonah, Teerwah, kilcoy, watts, Heck are all easily do-able, even for those with limited time. BTW- Evans Hd was great- finally some good weather- see sep thread for other coments. Cheers Neil.

OK, Qld weather looks marginal but improving Friday- we've had 6 octas or greater at < 2000'for 13 days in a row- makes you want to be a farmer at the moment! We have a sabre, 2 gyro's,a trike and my new Jab primed and ready to go... see you all there???/- hopefully Friday.

Am heading to YARM Wed to visit mum and stay until either thurs lunch or Friday AM depending on Weather. Then Evans via Glen Innes is the plan returning YCAB sat/Sun. Hopefully we will get some settled weather this week- Have done 17 hrs over the break but none of it in great conditions.Weather is God.
