    - theres money involved here ............ so there's going to be some rorting

    - you could put lots of other things in this category to - imagine the whole neighbourhood going to the supermarket in the falcon with a trailer on the back ......... sound like fun to me

    - imagine having a depot -m where you wait for a car to take you to your advertised destination

    - imagine hitching a ride with a pollie when they jet overseas to France

    you can carry a pushbike in a plane ................ BUT ........... these push bike lights - when turned on (a switch) - emit a pulse of light that could / might / maybe detract nesting birds - at night

  3. you could try ? .................. the LED lights that go on push bikes

     

    cheap as chips - got 4 for $ 15 from ebay - red - probably get white (if that's not being racist) - charge from a USB

     

    I reckon ? they would last a day or 2 without charge

  4. I'll assume a couple of the following things - purely in the interest of thread chatter

     

    - 24 registered planes and their engines - what happens when the engine becomes time expired

                      * its becoming relevant if you entertain buying a 24 registered plane

                      * or perhaps some other type No registered plane

    - the MARAP process creates paperwork and a fee - (apart from the cost) ............ the intent is then recorded & probably is a good thing in that everyone can see what the 'go' is - a paperwork trail

    - MARAP is at least doing the job currently (and I hope in the future) 

    - in the case of the 912 - if Rotax are saying 'no going past engine life' .............. then that must clear Rotax of liability

    - because of MARAP ..........................who is then now seen as taking this liability

    - if it's RAA - how can they accept that liability - RAA are not engine manufacturers (or is MARAP comparable to GA 'on condition' and therefore acceptable) 

     

    ................ And

     

    - I don't understand why RAA does not clear the air on this subject - its straight rule interpretation - best to hear it from the horses mouth (irrespective of what the rules may say ......... or not say or whoever says it)

    - RAA to clarify for all to hear - clearly - loud and clear

  5. originally (I don't know how far back) RAA gleefully accepted all those aircraft registrations and fees ................. guessing engine life was never really considered BUT now its been placed out front and is an issue for aircraft owners

     

    MARAP is the mechanism and am not to sure who collects that fee. $ 330 for the MARAP fee seems disproportionate compared to an annual rego fee of say $ 235 ...........

    Onetracks post above reminds me of the NZ topdressing DC 3's that could take a Bambina or a Mini in the back - also by ramp - for transport of pilot and crew - pilot got off one speeding ticket in the North Island ................. BUT, presumably had to pay the South Island ticket !  (post form NZ web-site below)

     

    Was it Gerry Kluck that got two speeding tickets in a day (within the hour I think), one between Blenheim and Woodbourne followed by one from Paraparaumu Airport to the Railway Station. (so engineer could catch train to Palmy)? Magistrate through it out of court as it was thought impossible to get two tickets within three hours in two islands in the same car.

    thats 4500 hours per year for HL 7413 - no pilot could ever clock up those hours (per year)

     

    Mr google reckons a 747 burns 14000 ltrs / hour - based on 149000 hours that 2 trillion litres of fuel

    The B747 and B767 are amongst the best of the very well built (or perhaps "overbuilt") aircraft ever produced. Of course, the venerable Douglas DC-3 is also up amongst the long-lived list of aircraft, but their piston engines are possibly their weak point for ensuring longevity. A lot of DC-3's crashed simply due to engine failure. Jet engines reliability is one of the reasons why the B747 and B767 airframes can last for so long.

  8. to add ? to the discussion - my point was 92000 hours equates to 10.50 years flying 24 hours a day / 365 days a year 

    • thats a sound recomendation for that planes maintenance regime .......... and I'm guessing for that the manufacturer
      • or does the manufacturer have no say in it after a period
    • a plane that takes it's final flight to a museum .......... also must be a product of sound maintenance (be it temporary maintenance)
    • so if you owned a Lancaster or a B17 - if you have the money - that plane could fly for another 100 years ?
    • why not ?
    • or is there something else that determines a planes life
  9. I read somewhere there was an ag pilot and he tied his boot to the cockpit roof - as a plumb bob - for a required horizon one day (could be a tall story)

     

    Your idea is better refined MBrooks - good idea if it can be applied to a basic aviation license and aircraft

     

    As to if Bureaucracy will stick their nose in  ................  (I hope they don't ............ cause just a visual aid ?)

    Interesting FH - is that still the rule - an L2 can't refuse to work on a plane ? (irrespective of conditon or history)
