  1. Sorry...I am not with Turbo or Orion on this...I think our government already knows about it...and honestly us talking about it on the forums is not going to change the fact that terrorism may exist...You guys are pulling the usual old "the terrorists must be stupid" routine...they aren't and if they were interested in our airports anything we have posted up here is not going to make a bit of difference. Any terrorist does not need to read our posts to know what is going on...and the posts will make no difference.

This is not the US...and to me saying don't even talk about it is just about on a par with the disagree and you're being "unpatriotic" line.

Although I will say that some of the posts such as suggesting writing the security codes on gates etc are not real smart. The fact is these measures are in place and if you don't follow the rules you may have the authorities down on your heads like a ton of bricks is true.

  2. Just had friday off work...back to work for the rest of the easter break on saturday...

    BUT...

My five year old daughter is flying to Brisbane Unaccompanied with VirginBlue...her first trip away without Mum or Dad to her Grandparents...I am very nervous for her but she is excited...I was in two minds about allowing her to go on her own but she loves to fly and I think it is good for kids to be able to experience as much as possible.

The kids I have seen who have been traveling on their own since they were little are amazing independent little buggers...I boarded two kids the other day who were Gold Velocity Members!!!!

  3. There is some very specic information in some of these posts about lax security.Just bear in mind that Victoria has tried, convicted, and locked up at least 15 genuine terrorists. hasn't made the headline but they are there in Port Phillip prison.

And, this is the most frightening part, their associates haven't been caught yet, so be careful about pointing out weaknesses in your airport security - you could be one of the injured.

And I would be willing to bet anything that airport security had nothing to do with these people being caught...that is the whole point...it is good that they are catching these people but they should not be telling us they have put security in place for our own protection when those of us who work in these environs everyday know this to be a joke.

And maybe if Mr Average Joe public knows they will kick up a stink and insist on it being fixed...because those who we pay OUR tax money to for the job have failed.

  4. If you've got the papers proving that you've got an ASIC coming, shouldn't that help you out a bit?Just like when your registering a car and waiting for the plates to turn up... you carry around your rego papers in that period...but you can still drive it on the road...

Not sure if it's the same with an ASIC but it wouldn't hurt ringing up CASA and finding out...

Just my 2cents worth... (Oh, Yeah... forgot to add GST, 2.2cents...)

If your paperwork is in you can legally operate under supervision while wearing a visitor card for 3 months...but you would probably not be able to find anyone to issue you with one unless you are at your home airport.

  5. One thing that you should all do if you use an airport with a gate code is to make sure you carry a TEXTA with you. Write the code on every gate that you have to pass through. That might save some angst for others following. At YLTV we have a fence less than half way around the airport land and no locks on the gates, or we didn't the last time I was there.

    David

And be very, very careful if you choose to do this...you may face massive fines and imprisonment...

  6. A few weeks ago my Mum and Dad got lost while driving in rural SE Qld and stopped my a gate at a property. Mum, who is always a chatter box lol, mentioned to the gentlemen at the gate who they asked for directions that they were ex Mount Isans. The gentlemen said "I used to live in Mount Isa and they had a great Gliding Club and he always wondered what happened to his instructor and that he had never forgotten those wonderful times"....Dad, who the gentleman couldn't see clearly as he was in the drivers seat leans over and lo and behold it was one of his students from more than 30 years ago. They were so excited and amazed to have met out of the blue on a dead end road in the middle of nowhere. They had dinner together and spent hours catching up.

  7. There is one cool thing about having an ASIC and working at an airport...

The Qld Police Beech 1900 flies into the port where I work regularly, bringing in/out prisoners and police officers...I once saw a couple of obviously plain clothes cops lounging on our conveyors waiting for Con-Air which had just landed and was taxying in...according to the rules we are to challenge anyone not displaying an ASIC (except Army personnel)...so I took great pleasure in pulling the cops up and hassling them and insisting on seeing there ID...believe me they were not impressed but there was not a thing they could do about it...we all got a good laugh out of that...Must say I was glad they were leaving town, not arriving...

Also a new guy we had working with us who recently immigrated from Britian pulled Premier Anna Bligh and her entourage up and tried to escort them off the premises...had no idea who she was but was doing the right thing according to ASIC rules...Government Ministers regularly flaunt the rules in regards to ASIC use.

  8. The very real problem is the there is still some threat to the general public and the government has done nothing....NOTHING...to fix this. I had hoped that with the change of government last year that the bullXXXX we had been fed would stop but it seems that it hasn't....

Besides inconveniencing honest people...THERE IS NO SECUIRITY AT AIRPORTS.

  9. My familys sports were gliding and sailing when I was growing up...My brother and I got a Sabot for christmas when I was four (brother was 8).

Sailed untill I was about 8 years old and then the gliding became a priority for the family as Dad was CFI at Leichardt Soaring Club in Mount Isa.

Still love sailing but have not sailed much since then.

  10. Tell me about it nothing would give me more pleasure to buy a block amongst a mostly GA Airpark and watch all the snobs go ape:censored: when you start to build a composite kit ultralight on the front lawn:laugh:006_laugh.gif.0f7b82c13a0ec29502c5fb56c616f069.gif

Personally I think they are going the wrong way with trying to make these airparks exclusive for those with money...Of the 2% of the population that has the money with the 2% of those that have an aircraft and/or want to live at an airfield it is a big ask to sell something like this...

  11. Well blow me bloody down...its a small world...the Mrs is saying "bloody hell!" too...

The airstrip near Bloomsbury which through this forum I have just found out is called Lakeside Airpark. Another ex Mount Isan called Doug Belbin owns 5 acres next to it....He took my wedding photos and we know him...old family friend...going to have to catch up...

This is a link to Doug's website with the airpark info...its a very entertaining read...

  12. I also found the most amazing airfield just off the Bruce Highway at Bloomsbury about an hour sth of Proserpine...there is a beautiful small lake, looked to be about half a dozen new looking double hangers and a dirt strip...Has anyone heard of this airstrip...???quote]

I'll have a look at Google earth later. but is it to the east of the h'way?

if it is this is what is/was known as Whitsunday Airpark. it was owned in the nineties by a guy called Harvey was his name i think. he had the watersports/skydive concession at Hamilton Island until he flew his C182 thru power lines at high speed there. Never flown in there but i belive it can be a bit tricky. there is also a strip at laguna quays nearby. Dave mariner from laguna was tryying to get a international airport up and running there as well. there is a 2 klm strip ready for sealing running next to laguana road just north of the resort. probably just needs a mow and it would be right to go.

    Ozzie

I saw the strip next to the road on the way into Laguna...wasn't not 100% sure it was a strip at first but you have confirmed it...

The one at Bloomsbury is just as you described it...runs up hill (or down depending on which way you are looking..lol). But still...pretty as a picture.

Thanks for the info mate...I will need to find somewhere to house the Thruster I hope to buy someday soon...fingers crossed.

  13. I also found the most amazing airfield just off the Bruce Highway at Bloomsbury about an hour sth of Proserpine...there is a beautiful small lake, looked to be about half a dozen new looking double hangers and a dirt strip...Has anyone heard of this airstrip...???

With the Wife encouraging me to buy an aircraft I will need somewhere to keep her...the aircraft not the wife...

You can see it clearly on Google Earth....again the airstrip not the wife...

  14. Hay windsor does your wife give you a hard time about wanting to stop at every airport.Paul

No...She actually encouraged me to...We drove by at night time...next morning as we were leaving to come home she insisted we backtrack the way we had come to visit...How lucky am I...????032_juggle.gif.8567b0317161503e804f8a74227fc1dc.gif

AND...she ran around taking photos...Keep in mind this is a women who has never flown in anything smaller than a Macair Saab.

AND...She is really keen for me to buy an aircraft...

I did get the impression that the locals were not too keen on Ultralights....

  15. I just got back from a holiday in Airlie Beach...and as I always do I visited every airport along the way.

The Whitsunday Airpark is brilliant...They have a Cafe and Bar looking over the action and a whole bunch of Beaver float planes.

They are having an airshow on the 3rd May to launch the WAVE residential airpart...Check out the link below...This is going to be a pretty exclusive thing I believe...don't know what the neighbours would think if you parked your Thruster in your own private hanger house...but it is nice to dream.

    http://http://www.whitsundayairport.com.au/

  16. I agree with you whole heartedly Ozzie...The airport I work at was sold into private hands about 8 months ago...since then as well as the problems which have always existed with security there has been no maintenance done on any equipment...The taxiways and access areas are collapsing...The automated baggage screening system is simply not working....etc etc etc...If they won't spend money on maintenance do you think they will spend any money on security?

  17. It seems pretty well confirmed that after the murder of a person waiting to book in at Sydney's T3 terminal that the security measures that have caused the average airtraveller much inconvienience not to mention the huge cost is worth didley squat. So if you are at the airport and it all goes to crap remember it is every man for himself your highly trained anti terrorist security is running the other way.068_angry.gif.cc43c1d4bb0cee77bfbafb87fd434239.gif088_censored.gif.2b71e8da9d295ba8f94b998d0f2420b4.gif

Highly trained anti terrorist secuirity???? Don't tell me you believe the spin our governments have been feeding us...!

THERE IS NO SECURITY AT AIRPORTS...I have personally experienced several instances of people forcing their way onto the apron at the airport I work at and it has taken 15-20 minutes for the police to arrive...More than 3 years ago we did have a security guy meet the aircraft on arrival...and it was made clear that his authority ended at the beginning of the apron. Now we have no security.

And that is just the start...the baggage screening that has just been introduced at all regional airports across Australia on the insistence of DOTARS does not work and is considered to be a multi million dollar joke....

Believe me this is just the tip of the iceberg of stories I could tell you about the inept way this whole security fiasco has been handled...it seems to be more about creating the impression that we are all safe by scaring the daylights out of honest people.

  18. I'm all for it, just means social functions outside of work are a no-go and if you're on duty or planning on flying the next day then you'll have to keep it at an absolute minimum.

And this was always the rules according to CASA anyway...12 hours between the consumption of alcohol and active duty...but how does a .02% BAC help with this...It is still illegal for a pilot to consume alcohol less than 12 hours before flying...always has been...Maybe it should be Zero???
