  1. I wonder who has been causing ructions on the board lately that has been p....ing other elected reps off????? Causing maybe the odd resignation?
  2. If you want to fly CTA, get a ppl and a certified aircraft. Recreational flying is designed to be precisely that. We have victor 1, the sydney basin vfr lane, and other lanes around the country for access through some areas. I get the impression that some, and I dont mean you guys of course, are just trying to get around the medical requirements and expense of getting fully cta equiped. Just because your aircraft cost more that a 172, a warrior, or the mortgage on the space shuttle, and goes faster, doesnt give you the right to ignore, or try to circumvent the established rules. I think some people are getting away from the aims of the Ultralight, sorry - Recreational Flying - movement, which is to enjoy flight in a less regulated environment, in smaller aircraft that rely on your own expertise to maintain and service, than GA. Remember people, the idea of our sport is to enjoy flying, without big brother regulating the crap out of us, not to compete with the big end of the sky. Why would I want to compete with a 747 or other faster aircraft for airspace, when I have the whole of Australia, minus a little bit around a few cities, to play with. If you want CTA etc, thewn maybe its time for Raa-Aus to think of splitting and letting us enjoyment types get away from the pissing contests that some are attempting to start.
  3. The coroner is making "recommendations" only. Whether the organization follows them or not is up to the organization. I, for one, would argue the other way. I think Raa-aus are doing it correctly, I would not want my contact details available to all and sundry. I think CASA have it wrong. The point about the information on car registration and car owners is well taken and I fail to see that we are any different to car owners. The point that CASA are a govt body and therefore have to make their records public doesn't hold water. The RTA and their state equivalents are not required to unless there is a reason enshrined in legislation, as in Police etc having access.
  4. I note that the term "amateur built experimental" is used. The kit I put together is registered as a 19-0000 but is recognized as a 'type' aircraft. Nowhere does it say experimental in the registration. Are you not getting confused with CASA registered experimental aircraft. However, as I mentioned before, until they send me a letter, I am letting my letter from RA-Aus be my authority to fly over built up areas.
  5. Would be great if I actually had the magazine to comment on. Still hasn't arrived (still, its only the 18th so they haven't broken the record yet. Be nice to receive it in July sometime.)
  6. Goulburn to Temora for coffee, then Cootmundra for lunch. 4.5 hrs and $120 fuel. The coffee was great!!!!!
  7. Thanks for the details Boaty. Now, where's the map, ruler, ?55kts groundspeed huh, (thinks................) Damn, the planning for trip to Broken hill, and the distance, just got longer!! Please write the trip up for this site (and photos?) when you return. Cheers Maynard
  8. Sounds like a brilliant trip. I would be very interested in your route/refueling stops. Will you have ground support or go it Gyro's only. This will be one for the bucket list. What is the range of your Gyro? Cheers Maynard
  9. Great videos and really great camera links. Thanks very much. I now have enough ideas to give me headaches:big_grin: (but pleasantly). Will publish on this forum when I get it going. Thanks again Maynard
  10. When they tell me I can't, (Raa that is) then I won't. Until then the peice of paper from Mr Bell is still current. Besides, it is only a review at present.
  11. Hey Geunsey, there was a program on the tele a few years ago about a bloke who had an electronic didgeridoo. (he called it a cyber didge). He toured the Northern Territory and it was a hit with the locals. Apparently he could alter the sound of the instrument, record and playback over the top of a current tune/blow??. It looked like a tunable blackbox thing mounted to the Didge with adjustable knobs. Sounded great on the tele. Just thought uou might want to know Maynard
  12. Some of the flight videos being posted on this site are top quality and reflect brilliantly the appeal of this great sport of ours. What cameras, mounts do you use, where do you mount the cameras and what software do you use to edit/compile the videos for keeping/presentation. Many of you have made passing reference to this but it seems about time we had a good discussion and got the information in one spot so all of the rest of us can learn from your expertise and "have a go". If any one knows a good 'How to..." please list it. Cheers Maynard
  13. Wow, looks like a great day. The Stearman and the Xair (mighty aircraft both) were obviously the standout aircraft of the day . Seriously, all of the photos are great. Cheers Maynard
  14. What an amazing, awesome trip. Great one for the bucket list. Now, if only the Xair could carry that much fuel between stops...? hmmmmm.
  15. Well done DM1, enjoy the bugs in the teeth feeling that drifters bring. Congratulations!!!
  16. Single seater, keep the important ones in front of you in the centre (especially with a 24" panel). Save your self the beating and nod wisely, and then do your own thing. Cheers Maynard
  17. Rationing has finished? Where do I cash in my coupons and can I fill in the bomb shelter? I was just about to send out food parcels, oh well, maybe there will be anothewr war later in the century. Must get out the model T and wash it.
  18. Alan, vry interested in your experiences with iridium plugs. We had a discussion the hanger today re the merits or otherwise of std NGK v's Platinum tips v's iridium plugs. Most use the std ones but I am interested in hearing your, and any other experieces with the other plugs be they for 4 stroke or 2 stroke us. Cheers Maynard
  19. This is some of the best model footage I have seen!!!
  20. Who was the ex pert, who pays him, does he fly 2 strokes, does he repair 2 strokes, does he even know what a 2 stroke is? Obviously hasn't had much positive experiences with 2 strokes. Plenty of engines out there running well after TBO with regular maintanence and care. US or Aus branch of the EAA? So many questions, so little time ................

Geez Pud, that looks great. Is the older one in the hanger the next project? Can't wait untill you publish the flight data after its first flight. Rag and Tube rock! (from an Xair owner Cheers Maynard
  22. Uninteresting plane to fly? So what do you classify as interesting?
  23. Geurnsey, Spoke to the guys from the AMSA (marine search and rescue) at Temora re this. You can use the PLB for marine, land or air as long as you go onto the registration site and specify the use for that purpose (you are not locked in to that purpose only, you can change it.) Takes 2 minutes to list marine , or change it to aviation etc. The guy that sends the rescue people out said that he would really like to know what he is looking for, a plane, a biat, hiker etc, so he can allocate resources and search parameters to suit. Read the site specified by Magcheck and read your owners manual from your plb. Cheers Maynard
