  1. I have 250hrs on a standard supercheap auto 17aH SLA battery, no problems. ($110 vs 200-300 for the gell.) Also run a small battery in circuit to take any peaks out of the line for my radio but itr is not really required. (good for recharging mobiles at Temora etc).
  2. Boaty, I would be very interested in any tips/planning/ problems etc you encountered on the trip back. Looking at a couple of trips out west and have not done it before. Very interested in your stops re fuel, etc. Maybe catch up at either mittagong or Albion park when you return. Have a good trip Maynard
  3. Just leafing through the copies of the Pacific Flyer magazines on my coffee table and I was impressed with the quantity of Raa-Aus registered aircraft on the front covers e.g The Starduster starlet on the September cover. I see very little written about this magazine but I guess most of you would buy it anyway. There have been some contentious posts recently about flying idiots. The latest issue of this magazine has, fortuitously, an article on this subject Looking at both Raa and Ga pilots. I have nothing to do with this magazine except as a regular purchaser. They always seem to be able to get the magazine out on time (the date of the next issue is published in the magazine). Surely a lesson for Raa-Aus whose delivery dates seem to be random. A small enterprise doing it well. Just my thoughts Maynard

So can anyone tell me what a real plane, and formal training are. I have my ppl exams, 300hrs in ultralights, cross country etc etc. So that makes me an untrained toy pusher (Is it that real planes actually leave the ground?)
  5. Thats gone onto the favourites list!!!!!. Sense of humour and a job very efficiently done. :DJ: Never tire of seeing this one.
  6. Given the quality of the pilot trainees I see doing cross countries and landing at Goulburn, this worries me a lot. There is an old saying that if you pay peanuts, you get ................ And I am damn sure that I do not want ......... flying when I am in a passenger seat. Maybe it will be a tea, curry or me experience?
  7. yeah, bugs in the teeth, real basic seat of your pants flying. Imagine landing this on the wing of a 747!!! Rag and tube gold.
  8. What a brilliant display. Thermal, sideslip, land and taxi, with no fan. Great judgement. Love the grin at the end. One for the favourites list.
  9. By the time you got to the bar you'd die of thirst, bloody fliers, taking all the good spots!!!
  10. The smile says it all. Great video,
  11. Okay Maj, re the photos, I guess quicksilvers and scouts, what is the first one?. (correct me if I'm wrong. please) Great Photos!
  12. Wade Mahlo at Orange Airport was the manufacturer of the thrusters for a long time. He may still have parts available. The thruster business is for sale I believe. His website appears to be out of action but a phone call may help.
  13. Did this occur just after you had the carbie apart? Is the needle mounted above or below the slide. (I assembled mine wrong in the early days and had the same sort of problem)
  14. Looks great Ian, a lot of work involved in setting it up. Good one Maynard
  15. Go Tomo. if you don't ask, you don't get.!!
  16. I thought the idea of having the fuel pump on at take off was to ensure a good supply of fuel to the engine when needed most. Carburetors are designed to limit the fuel delivered and control the line pressure by the use of floats and jets. I am wondering if you have the wrong fuel pump on and it is over pressuring the system, or the needles and seat need reworking.
  17. David, Don and Carol, 100%. I have attended NATFLY, and camped under the wing, for the last 2 years in my yellow canary and thought it was BRILLIANT!!!! Remember the board work for us, we do not work for them. This organization is about (or should be) the sheer love, joy and fun of flying. Personal agendas and politics need not apply! Just my 0.2c Maynard
  18. Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  19. They don't have to post do they? Dont like, dont post, easy.
  20. Don, I think GYFTS is better used at the young end of the range. The investment will get years of life and spin off attractions whereas empty nesters should be in a position to scrape up the dosh themselves. The youth of this country are its future and an investment in youth is rarely wasted. (I am 60+).
  21. By whom???
  22. Must have been intentional, note how the rotation was stopped once the jumper tapped the pilot on the shoulder and then jumped. The last jumper was lucky not to wear the aircraft.
  23. Sounds good to me to.
  24. coljones, check Ians post #14 in this thread.
  25. Go for it Pud, she's you aircraft and you do what you want. After all, any advantage to get the bank manager/best mate/spare time controller onside has to be worth it. Chjeers Maynard
