The 206 is a well known screamer and get many complaints for noise."This figure illustrates that a propeller change by itself has little influence on noise heard by people on the ground, and that the biggest influence is due to the addition of silencers systems. Noise from an over- flying aircraft is heard much later as it’s approaching, and is not heard much sooner after it has flown by. "It would be interesting to put the data for a C206 on take off beside this DJP because that situation seems to be a common cause for complaint and caused by propellor tip speed as I understand it.Kaz

Example aircraft - say a Tecnam - 912 four stroke. But all of the front end engine aircraft have the same problem including GA.
If you run the exhaust pipe down and behind you, say 2 thirds down the fuselage or more would the noise level reduce in the cabin. If not why not?
Flying for over 30 years and never really understood why we have to put up with such a high noise level in the cabin with the exhaust ending basically under our feet. Yes I understand a bit of extra weight and attachments and may not look nice - But
Would it also not remove the smell of the exhaust more effectively as well?

Yes have maintained as well its way too easy for many years in GA and also specifically in RAA. Specifically when carrying a pax - everyone has the right to do stupid things by themselves - but not with unknowing Pax. However I always get the old - you cant make them do more training hours as its will cost to much and memberships will stop.Fully aware of what some pilots are like from Airliners to Ultralights, some shouldn't be in charge of a lawn mower!:-)It's good to self assess, I do it every time I fly & am always learning, sometimes from my own mistakes. It's too easy to get a pilots license I reckon there in lies half the problem. So I really enjoy the safety argument - versus cost and how non political correct when it becomes - real hard cash hits the fan.
However, I do like your lawn mower line above - I know a few CFI / instructors that fit that one and yet they let them teach!

Capt Wally a lot of pilots try to hide some weakness in they flying ability.
You just have to watch some flying clubs and the members to see stark differences of levels of skill and awareness. I know where I have holes. I still use for example the radio the way I learnt 25 years ago or more and is habit and hard to break. But it is not dangerous putting a call sign in one end or the other, as compared to actual hand eye coordination problems for lack of training, practice or currency or just flying through controlled airspace without knowing the changes or procedures for example.

Ok - last year unless I was on anther planet, I went to a flying school class d - flew an single engine Cessna I had not flow in 25 years.
The flight review consisted of pre flight - taxi out where the instructor did the radio calls anyway, took off, flew around straight and level for 45 mins, nothing else - back into the airport and then did two normal powered landings.
No questions or briefings - the CFI singed off and was paid for an hour and ten mins flying. End of story. Part 61 done.
So please what is everyone going on above here? I do admit it was slack ,and expected of a bit of a challenge and at least one engine failure but that is exactly what it was.
-
Best solution - glue (two pack glue) a clear plastic tube along the fuel stick - dip tank - put thumb over top of tube lift out - no argument on level of fuel. Suggest all do this as it is fail safe reading, also solves problem with multi tanks from having a "wet stick".

The question is from the post I made - is she legal under raa and casa rules - However this thread has taken a life of its own.

OK guys - LETS TAKE THE HEAT OFF PAULINE. At least see flys RAA and sees and talks to people out the back blocks. Doing her job.
However
This pollie seems a real crook . And took CASH. pocketed almost $175,000 Why is he not in jail NOW. This is planned and hidden fraud is it not?
On Tuesday, the Herald Sun revealed that the Ocean Grove caravan park where Mr Nardella claimed to have lived for almost three years, in a cabin rented from family for $200 a month, had a “no residents” policy.
The arrangement allowed him to collect an allowance of $37,678 a year, because the cabin was farther than 80km from the Melbourne CBD and Mr Nardella maintained a second residence in Melbourne.
Pressure on the Premier to act is growing within the Labor Party, as public anger over the Melton MP’s abuse of a country residence allowance — which saw him pocket almost $175,000 — reaches boiling point.
Mr Nardella has already been forced to quit the parliamentary party and sit as an independent. Now, ALP branches in Melbourne’s northwest are considering ousting him altogether.

IanReally? So your ok with it just because it's an Australian built aeroplane? If you or I tried something like this we would be extremely lucky to avoid becoming a long term guest of her majesty. The fact that it's an Australian built aircraft in no way changes the fact that what has occurred here is likely an act of fraud, and I can't say I condone that under any circumstances. Some of the population don't believe in your view it seems. The don't knows are the one that have me worried.

Kaz I just posted somewhere here that we start up UBER RAA , all we need is an app as now we have a precedent that a pollie can do it so why not all of us. To hell with CASA and any rules.I wonder how much taxpayers have been charged for the use of the aircraft and how this is being done...sounds very iffy to me. A private pilot can accept an equal contribution from a passenger but can't be paid by a third party to provide a service.Kaz-

May I suggest we start up an UBER RAA. DONT BOTHER CASA WITH ANY NOTIFICATINS And dam the torpedoes full flight ahead. Can we move beyond the 'politics' here, for at least a moment? Because there are actually some other serious and meaningful issues that I believe should be considered.Lest my comments be placed in any 'political' context, I state that I have absolutely NO affectation for anything to do with 'One Nation'. This commentary - if you can accept that it is looking at issues OTHER than the 'politics' - is intended to look at issues of interest to RAA owners/operators/pilots.First point: the fact that an RAA-registered and operated aircraft was a valuable and viable tool for conducting a heavy schedule of travel around Australia - and it did that with no 'aviation-related' drama - is a pretty convincing example of the fact that a good RAA aircraft is a competent device for travel. I suggest it has shown that, when used intelligently and within the regulations (more on that below..) it is NOT necessary that an IFR-rated GA twin is the minimum level of aircraft for reasonably reliable transport around this country. Yes, RAA-reg aircraft have additional limitations - we all accept that - but I posit that this example has shown that RAA aircraft are not just 'toys' - they can fulfill, to a decent degree, an extended 'mission' - if used within their limitations.
Next point - and before anybody jumps down my throat, pleas READ and CONSIDER the actual point I make.
It appears that the aircraft was 'hired' from the owner for travel: that is what I interpret from the media reports, taking the point that an electoral expense was claimed for its use..
IF that is so, then the flight(s) claimed for by the HONP are 'airwork' use of the aircraft. That is a total NO-NO for RAA registered aircraft other than for training. YET: absolutely no harm was done by that work. I assume that all the relevant flight conditions were observed and that the flight was conducted with all due respect for safety - surely, we would have heard if it had been otherwise?
SO: here is a fine example of apparently safe use of an RAA aircraft for 'airwork'. Yet, CASA has stamped on humble tradespeople for using their RAA-registered aircraft to transport them and their tools of trade to a remote site. Not for any 'safety' ssue - beyond a nebulous esxcuse that they 'might' breach safety regs to get to the job on time..
There is a huge whiff of 'one rule for the great, one for the rest' at play here. I believe that this situation is well worthy of more play in achieving a sensible regulatory regime for RAA aircraft - and Senator Hanson might just have dealt us all a winning card!.

And don't forget slippery bully shorten who forgot to disclose a bag full of money 40k for six years and is not in jail either. its all a corrupt system. if we tried that on our tax return ( oh I forgot) we would be in deep do do and fined to hell. they really set the high standard for us to look up to. Pollies standards need to be set much higher compared to us mere mortals and jailed for misdeeds.Wake up fellasIt is all about a undeclared donation of $100 k form a developer and refusal to declare. Shady stuff that got her to jail last time is the issue.
James Ashby is a very slippery snake and will bite her

not the point bex - some rich punters will buy themAt $540,000 ~ $800,000, who's even interested. -
My real question is has RAA looked at it or CASA as its low hanging fruit - IF- Pauline has done something wrong with the flying regs. Think they will now.
To be honest don't give a damm.
What a waste of time the libs and labour use instead of doing anything meaningful for AUSTRALIA. They - the pollies eg libs and labour, greens etc should be classed as a criminal organisations in there own right.

You can now pre-order 'the world's first certified commercial flying car'
So do I pay car rego as well as RAA OR GYRO fees, insurance and what license?
Will we need a road takeoff and landing cert or endorsement?

Quote - AAP - Tuesday, 4 April 2017
One Nation's Queensland leader says he's not aware how the party acquired the use of a private plane, but it played by electoral rules.
The ABC's Four Corners on Monday night reported money provided by Victorian property developer Bill McNee was used to buy a light plane which is insured in the name of Pauline Hanson's chief of staff James Ashby.
The Jabiru aircraft which bears the party logo and Senator Hanson's image has been frequently used by Mr Ashby, a trained pilot, to fly his boss to regional areas.
Former Queensland One Nation treasurer Ian Nelson told the program he urged Senator Hanson and Mr Ashby to declare the plane as a gift but was told not to worry about it.
Mr Nelson said Senator Hanson had told him it was her plane.
Queensland One Nation state leader Steve Dickson said his party had met its obligations to declare donations.
"I can't give you all the details on how James has come by his plane - if he's bought it personally, if it's been a part of some sort of a donation - but what I can say is we are playing by the rules," Mr Dickson told Sky News on Tuesday.
Four Corners also reported some One Nation candidates had been required to use Mr Ashby's printing company for their posters, pamphlets and corflutes.
Mr Dickson said he had signed a candidate contract which required he commit $3500 to the party, but he was not aware of a link with Mr Ashby's business.
"I can go through whoever I like," he said.
We try to get best value for money."
Mr Dickson, a former Liberal National Party MP who quit to join Senator Hanson's party, described the ABC program as a "stitch up" featuring disgruntled former officials and candidates.
Asked how influential Mr Ashby was in the party, Mr Dickson said he was "an element of the organisation".
Greens democracy spokeswoman Lee Rhiannon said there was a strong case for federal and state electoral commissions to investigate the political donations and gifts received by One Nation.
"How Senator Pauline Hanson has had access to a small plane for campaign purposes should have been reported," she told AAP on Tuesday.
"There are clear rules that require politicians and political parties to disclose such gifts.
"If there is a failure to accurately disclose on the parliamentary register of members' interests or to the Australian Electoral Commission surely there should be repercussions."
Senator Hanson has declined to comment.
But she told Sky News in January she provided fuel for the aircraft out of her own pocket.
"I've still got my plane, well the party's plane, but all the trips I've done in that since the election I've filled it up myself," she said.
One Nation declared a payment of $1187 noted as "Jabiru aircraft service" in its Electoral Commission of Queensland party disclosure return for the first half of 2016.
The disclosure return was signed by Senator Hanson's brother-in-law Greg Smith, who the form said was the "party agent".

so where is the twin endorsement in raa, or am I missing somethingThe LAZAIR is a twin engine plane and they are currently on the RAA register so its not really a big leap forward.... -
Just in general terms - What is the expected TBO, and maintenance times and costs expected.

No I am not - but you can ad the Seneca to the easy list.I think you are confusing the Beechcraft BE76 Duchess and the Piper PA-34 Seneca.Duchess

Ok so how many here have flown twins.
May I suggest those who have not for your birthday go a fly one, say a baron 58, an Aerostar is really fun as well, its a bit sporty, and ask the instructor to give you a engine out at height. Then try climbing and turning. Next ask him to let you fly the circuit engine out and put on a stable final flying down the centre line.
Next try a if he will let you of show you an engine failure at takeoff at say 200ft. Enjoy. Things will happen very, very fast and dont forget the downwind checks and speed / height control. It is well beyond some people. And by the way this will all be done empty as he wont put 4 other people in the plane to increase the weight and tolerance you fly at not.
Some are very easy to fly engine out say the partenavia p68 or the piper dutchess which are tooooo easy and only a 4 seat.
I GURANTEE that those who have not ever flown a twin will come out mentally exhausted and sweating.
ENJOY.

Icarus - But we did cross roads, we went around rural houses no over, landed on four wheel drive roads and or grass paddocks, however, we did not get above 300ft, ran out of oxygen back then. Best flying ever.I would like to see something similar to FAA part 103. Aircraft under about 130kg no licence , no inspection , nothing.!!Just go down to Bunnings , grab some sticks , glue and aluminium.a briggs and Stratton, and build yerself one of dem der flyin machines.
now that s cheap flying. Was that how it used to be? but you could not cross roads or fly above 500ft or so?
